Chapter 124

As dusk settled, Laura's mood remained gloomy. Seeing her distress, Peggy asked, "Miss, are you still worried about Alan's upcoming visit to Yrando?"

"Yes," Laura nodded slightly.

"So, are you planning to return earlier?" Peggy inquired.

As Laura's secretary, Peggy naturally wanted her to be happy. However, she favored Alan. In her opinion, Alan was far superior to Cameron, whom she considered ungrateful for Laura's attention. She believed comparing Alan to Cameron was insulting to Alan.

"We'll see. I'll try to delay my return as long as possible," Laura said.

She wasn't ready to return to Leving yet. This trip might be her last chance to see Cameron before her wedding to Alan in two weeks. Afterward, she might never be able to leave Leving again.

She had insisted on staying in Yrando despite Cameron's annoyance. She wanted to ensure Cameron's well-being during the remaining time, for her own peace of mind. Furthermore, Laura knew she couldn't let Cameron and Alan meet. She understood both their personalities, especially Alan's, and feared Alan would be aggressive toward Cameron, and she wouldn't be able to stop him. She couldn't allow such a confrontation.

"Alright, Ms. Jones," Peggy responded. She felt uneasy about Laura's obvious sorrow.

"And Peggy, you mustn't tell Alan about my meeting with Cameron, understood?" Laura cautioned, prioritizing Cameron's safety despite trusting Peggy's discretion.

"I understand. I won't tell Alan," Peggy assured her, aware of her duty.

"Okay. You can leave now, Peggy. I need some time alone," Laura said, massaging her temples. She was visibly tired.

"Rest well, Miss. I'll take my leave now."

Peggy quietly left the room.

Alone, Laura stood and gazed at the city lights from the hotel window. Yet, a profound sense of desolation and silence lingered within her. Sometimes, she envied ordinary girls who could pursue love freely. As the Jones family heiress, she didn't have that right.

Meanwhile, after leaving, Peggy decided to go to the convenience store downstairs for a drink, finding the hotel's beverage selection unappealing.

She felt no need for a bodyguard once she reached the hotel's ground floor; the convenience store was a short walk away. The automatic door swung open as she approached, greeting her with a cheerful "Welcome" from the speaker.

She entered and saw a cashier in a black cap engrossed in his phone, seemingly oblivious to her arrival. Peggy was unfazed; she was accustomed to employees slacking off.

The click-clack of her black high heels echoed as she went to the drinks section. Her eyes lit up at the sight of her favorite beverages. As she happily chose her drinks, the cashier, previously absorbed in his phone, looked up. His gaze fixed on Peggy's appealing silhouette, accentuated by her black suit, which outlined her curves.

Particularly drawn to her legs in black stockings, he licked his lips lustfully. A scar marred his left eye beneath his cap, revealing a sinister appearance. He stood and began to approach Peggy with deliberate steps.
