Chapter 162

As Cameron bent his head, he didn't notice the shift in Laura's eyes.

"I'll start now," he said, reminding her before gently taking her warm foot.

Laura's eyes darted violently, and her body tensed. Ankles, it was said, were sensitive areas for women, and this was the first time anyone had touched her foot. Cameron immediately sensed her tension. Though embarrassed, he had no choice but to treat her sprain quickly. He adjusted his demeanor, holding her foot and using his other hand to gently massage the swollen area. As he rubbed, a faint energy flowed from his fingertips, penetrating her swollen ankle bit by bit.

At first, Laura felt pain and gritted her teeth. But gradually, as more energy flowed into her, a warm current spread from her ankle throughout her body. It felt strange, like a hot spring on a cold day. Her body relaxed. Lowering her head, she looked at Cameron's serious face. A touch of gentleness flickered in her usually icy eyes.

"Cameron," she murmured.

"Hmm?" He frowned slightly.

"Promise me you'll come to the grand ceremony," she said, returning to their earlier conversation.

"Ms. Jones, I don't need your help. My life is good as it is," Cameron replied, taking a breath.

"Is it because Ms. Jennings is with you?" Laura asked, gazing up at the blue sky. "To be honest, I envy her sometimes. If I weren't from a prestigious family, burdened by my responsibilities, I would be the one with you."

"Ms. Jones, what exactly are you trying to say?" Cameron's frown deepened. He sensed a deeper meaning in her words.

She smiled. "Nothing. It's good that you have Ms. Jennings." Dakota's gentle nature reassured Laura; with her, Cameron would be protected from future betrayal and hurt.

"That's right," Cameron said. "So please don't disturb Dakota. I want her to have a peaceful life."

"Don't worry, I won't disturb you two. About the grand ceremony in five days"

"Ms. Jones, your foot is healed," Cameron interrupted, standing up.

Laura paused, incredulous at her rapid recovery. Moving her ankle, she found it pain-free; the swelling and bruising had vanished.

"Cameron, where did you learn such amazing medical skills?" she asked in wonder.

"From a skilled traditional medicine doctor," he replied. "Now, if there's nothing else, I'll leave."

"Wait," Laura stopped him.

"Anything else?" Cameron asked.

"Uh my shoe is broken," she said, gesturing to the broken heel and biting her lip.

Cameron sighed inwardly at her seeming endless demands. He wanted to leave, but couldn't ignore her pitiful expression. Though annoyed, he squatted. "Get on. I'll carry you."
