Chapter 176
Peggy's gaze trembled, and her complexion turned pale. The restroom's ventilation window was open, indicating that someone had escaped—likely the assassin Cameron had mentioned.
The window, nearly three meters high and covered with privacy film to prevent peeping, was unreachable to an ordinary person.
"Did you open that window, Cameron?" Peggy asked, turning to him.
Cameron shook his head. Peggy's face paled further. She was certain the window had been closed when she entered; she'd checked. The thought of a deadly assassin hiding in the restroom sent shivers down her spine. She was grateful for Cameron's arrival; otherwise, she might have been in danger.
"Cameron, what should we do now?" Peggy asked fearfully. As a civilian, she dreaded another encounter with an assassin so soon after her last kidnapping.
"Tell Ms. Jones to leave immediately and stay at the hotel for the next few days," Cameron instructed gravely. "And you should leave as soon as possible, too."
With the assassin's whereabouts unknown, ensuring Laura and her team's safety required immediate action. Cameron would find the assassin. Judging by the lingering scent, he assumed the assassin had recently left and might still be nearby.
"Wait, you're not going to leave me here alone, are you?" Peggy hurried after Cameron in her high heels, visibly scared. "Don't be so petty. I didn't even say too much about you earlier…"
The area was deserted. She couldn't imagine what would happen if the assassin reappeared. Cameron was her only support.
"Peggy, do I look like someone who holds grudges? I'm just going to look for the assassin," Cameron replied with a resigned smile. To ease her worries, he added, "Don't worry, the assassin isn't in this building anymore and won't return soon. Call Ms. Jones and ask her to come down so you can leave together. And inform Otis so he can remain vigilant."
While the assassin's skills were inferior to Otis's, Cameron felt caution was warranted. The enemy was hidden, while they were exposed. The seven-year-old matter could wait; dealing with the assassin was his priority.
"Actually, Ms. Jones and Otis just went to the parking lot. We planned to leave anyway, but I came here to change my stockings after they snagged, and… well, to use the restroom," Peggy said, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Everyone has emergencies."
"Uh…" Cameron felt awkward.
"So…" Peggy bit her lip gently and looked at Cameron. "Could you… maybe walk me to the parking lot? I'm a bit scared to go alone."
