Chapter 219

Cameron's firm words stunned Laura. She had never imagined him speaking to her like that. Laura considered him as stupid and stubborn as ever—the very reason she had deceived him seven years prior, unwilling to let him sacrifice his life for her.

"Damn it! You're seeking death!"

Alan, enraged by Cameron, surged with energy, his fist aimed at Cameron's temple.

"Alan, no!"

Startled, Laura reacted instantly, trying to stop him, but it was too late. She saw Alan's intent to kill.

Cameron's expression turned cold. He met Alan's fist with a trace of anger, but before he could react, Lena intervened.

"Alan, stop!"

Cameron paused. Alan hesitated, noticing Lena and restraining his attack.

"Alan Xander, as a deputy general, you should know the military region's rules," Lena said sharply.

He suppressed his anger. "Hmph, of course I know. I just wanted to scare this punk into silence."

Alan knew he couldn't use force against civilians. He understood Lena's difficult position, but he hadn't expected her to protect Cameron. Her actions fueled his jealousy and resentment. He couldn't understand why Cameron was preferred over him, why Laura and Lena were so protective of him.

"Cameron, are you okay?"

Dakota arrived slightly late, concernedly checking Cameron for injuries.

"I'm fine. Dakota, I'm sorry" A hint of guilt clouded his eyes; he regretted confronting Laura.

Dakota responded softly, "It doesn't matter. I know everything."

Relief washed over Laura. She'd realized the danger and knew she needed to get Cameron away from Alan immediately.

"Cameron, have you seen the difference between you and Alan?" she asked coldly, calming herself. "Enough bragging. The world values power. I need someone who can match me in every aspect—not a man who only boasts. I admit I had a crush on you seven years ago, but that was then. As Alan said, I came to Yrando out of guilt, to repay you, because I hate owing anyone. Stop daydreaming!"

Her cold words pierced Cameron's heart, making him tremble uncontrollably.

"Laura, are you serious?" he asked.

She smiled faintly. "Of course."

"Then how do you explain the hospital?"

Cameron refused to believe her.

"The hospital? You almost died saving me. I was simply moved. Is that so strange? Why are you fantasizing? If I still had feelings for you, I would have married you, not Alan." Laura's expression remained impassive, devaluing him completely, though her own heartbreak was evident. She had to make him give up; otherwise, he would fight Alan to the death, and Alan would kill him.

"So, those are your true feelings?" Cameron looked pale and unsteady.

Laura stared at him. "That's right."

"I see."

Chapter 219 (Continued)

Cameron's body shook; his heart felt crushed. He didn't doubt her words; her eyes reflected the same coldness and ruthlessness he'd seen seven years ago.
