Chapter 239

“Dr. Smith, I understand your urgency, but cancer treatment is no trivial matter,” Mikel said. He glared at Tara, then turned his hostile gaze to Cameron. “Kid, this isn't the place for you. Get out!”

At 43, Mikel was a family man, but he had long been captivated by Tara's beauty. He had always desired her. He'd previously struggled to get close to her, knowing of her aversion to men, but now he saw his chance.

Upon learning of Tara's grandfather's illness, Mikel volunteered to lead the treatment, planning to falsely exaggerate the severity of his condition. By then appearing to stabilize the old man, he hoped to make Tara indebted to him and gain control over her. He wouldn't let this unexpected intruder, Cameron, ruin his plans, especially since Cameron seemed medically uninformed, using medicine as a pretext to get close to Tara. Mikel was determined to prevent Cameron's success. He wanted Tara for himself.

Cameron sensed Mikel's animosity and a deep-seated scheme in his eyes. He narrowed his own eyes slightly.

“Mr. Kennedy, given my grandfather's deteriorating condition and the ineffectiveness of current treatments, let's give Cameron a chance,” Tara pleaded, unaware of Mikel's true intentions.

“Sorry, Dr. Smith, but you know the rules,” Mikel flatly refused. “Just because other doctors are stumped doesn't mean I am.”

“You have a solution?” Tara asked, her interest piqued.

Mikel confidently asserted, “While I can't cure his cancer, stabilizing his condition shouldn't be a problem. You're aware of my capabilities. It's just that” He trailed off, feigning concern.

“Just what, Mr. Kennedy?” Tara's eyes sparked with hope.

Mikel continued, “This time, while I can temporarily stabilize him, preventing further deterioration requires a comprehensive treatment plan. It's quite detailed, so I'd like to discuss it with you in my office later.” Inside, he smirked at his manipulation, convinced Tara would comply, using her grandfather as leverage.

“Okay, Mr. Kennedy,” Tara agreed, eager to try anything to save her grandfather.

Cameron, observing silently, could contain himself no longer. He chuckled coldly. “Mr. Kennedy, you're only claiming you can stabilize the condition because it's not as severe as you've made it out to be.”

Mikel frowned at the interruption. “Young man, this is not the place for baseless accusations.”

Cameron's tone was laced with irony. “They say a doctor's heart should be compassionate, but yours, Mr. Kennedy, seems quite the opposite.” He was determined to prevent Tara from being deceived and couldn't bear to see Dylan suffer, his body filled with tubes, used as a tool by Mikel to win Tara's affection.

“What do you mean!” Mikel responded defensively, his voice tinged with panic.

Cameron didn't mince words. “Mr. Kennedy, Tara's grandfather's condition hasn't worsened, has it? You've tampered with the medical equipment to make it appear so.”

Tara's sharp gaze fell on Mikel. “Is there any truth to this, Mr. Kennedy?”

Mikel's smile faltered under her icy stare. He wasn't about to admit anything, replying with feigned innocence, “Dr. Smith, how could you think so lowly of me? You know my feelings for you. I treat your grandfather as my own family.”

He shifted the blame. “It's this young man who's out of line, claiming to be a doctor at such a critical time. You should be wary of him!”
