Chapter 251
“Dr. Smith, why did you add me on WhatsApp?” Cameron finally suppressed the tingling on his scalp and asked. He’d promised Dakota to keep his distance from Tara and didn’t want Dakota to be upset.
“It’s for easier communication,” Tara said, looking at him seriously. “I’ll need your help with my grandfather’s illness.”
Cameron sighed in relief. If it was only about treating Dylan, that was acceptable. They wouldn’t have any other reason to contact each other.
Seeing his relief, Tara teased him. “What else could it be, handsome? Were you thinking of video-calling me while bathing?” she added teasingly. “But if you’re really into it, I wouldn’t mind.”
“Give me a break,” Cameron retorted, rolling his eyes.
“Such a pity,” Tara said, laughing.
Knowing Tara was teasing, Cameron removed her from his WhatsApp blocklist. Looking at her name, “Mr. Smith,” his gaze flickered. He hadn’t noticed before. He assumed “Mr.” stood for Mister. Tara’s listed gender on WhatsApp was male. He couldn’t help asking, “Dr. Smith, is something wrong with your WhatsApp name and gender?”
“What’s wrong with them?” Tara asked playfully.
“The ‘Mr.’—doesn’t that stand for Mister?” Cameron asked.
Tara’s reply held a chill. “What if I told you I don’t like men?”
Cameron was taken aback.
“But you’re an exception,” Tara added quickly, her eyes twinkling. “I won’t keep you. Head home, and we’ll see each other next time.”
Cameron felt bewildered. He wondered if Tara was easygoing on the surface but aloof underneath, but he didn’t dwell on it. Thinking of Dakota waiting at home, he hurried back.
“See you next time, Dr. Smith.” Cameron left.
Tara watched him go, her interest piqued.
After leaving the hospital, Cameron called Lord Blackheart. “Blackheart, blacklist Dr. Mikel at General Hospital. Also, Ms. Jennings arrived safely in Leving.”
“Yes, sir! Sir, there’s news about Dakota’s attempted assassination. It seems her stepmother was responsible. She’s planning to deal with her. Should I assist her discreetly?”
“If she needs help, assist her discreetly. But with her influence in Leving, she probably won’t need it. Also, hand over the captured mercenary leader to Laura. She might find him useful.”
“Got it!”
“I’ll hang up.”
Cameron looked at the azure sky as he walked toward Aquarine Residence. Although he and Laura were no longer together, he believed in helping others. He hoped Dakota would continue to live a safe and happy life.
