Chapter 255
The atmosphere in the bedroom was suddenly tense. The unexpected WhatsApp notification disrupted Dakota and Cameron's intimate moment.
“Cameron, your phone… it just rang,” Dakota said, her face flushing. She pushed him away and buried her head in the blankets.
Cameron cursed internally, wondering who would contact him now. He was furious the message hadn't arrived at a more convenient time.
He sighed, pulled out his phone, and saw a message from Tara. He opened WhatsApp and read: “Handsome, have you gotten home?”
His eye twitched. He replied with an exclamation mark.
“You seem a bit resentful. I didn’t mean to interrupt you and your girlfriend,” Tara joked.
Cameron sent a laughing emoji and asked, “What’s up? Why did you contact me?”
“I’ve prepared the prescription you gave me. I’m wondering when you’ll be able to come for my grandfather’s acupuncture treatment,” Tara replied.
“Tomorrow morning,” Cameron said, quickly shifting his focus.
He knew Tara was deeply concerned about her grandfather's illness.
"Alright, handsome. I'll wait for you in the ward tomorrow. Just let me know before you come. Love you!” Tara ended with a kiss emoji.
Cameron smiled, shook his head, and replied, “Okay, Dr. Smith.” He put away his phone.
He looked at Dakota, still completely hidden under the blankets, and felt awkward. After a moment, he said, “Dakota, that was Dr. Tara. She was asking when I could treat her grandfather.”
“Mhm,” Dakota mumbled from under the blankets.
“You might want to come out from under there. Isn’t it stuffy?” Cameron asked awkwardly.
“It’s fine…” Dakota replied shyly.
She didn’t know how to face him. The thought of what almost happened mortified her. She’d said no, but when Cameron leaned in, she’d closed her eyes in anticipation. She felt he must have noticed.
Seeing Dakota’s reluctance, Cameron, unaware of her thoughts, felt even more awkward. “Dakota, I’m sorry about earlier. I got a bit carried away,” he apologized, scratching his head.

“It’s… it’s okay.” Dakota paused. “I’m a bit tired. I think I’ll rest for a bit.”
She’d never been in such a situation and felt lost. She wanted an excuse to send Cameron away.
“In that case… you rest well. I’ll head back,” Cameron said, unsure how to ease the awkwardness.
“By the way, you can wash off the ointment on your face in about ten minutes,” he reminded her before leaving.
“Okay,” Dakota responded.
Cameron left awkwardly. As he stepped out, he ran into Jane, who was about to start cooking.
“Hi, Ms. Jennings. I… I have to go now,” he said, his smile awkward.
“Won’t you stay for dinner, Cameron?” Jane invited warmly.
“No, something urgent came up at work. I have to go,” he excused himself.
“Take care, then. Let me know in advance next time you come over. Mr. Jennings and I will plan an outing for ourselves,” Jane said, her tone hinting at something more.
Cameron’s face heated up as he pretended not to understand her implication. He knew she meant they wouldn't be interrupted next time.
“Ms. Jennings, I’ll be going, then,” he said quickly, putting on his shoes and leaving.
“Cameron is such a shy boy,” Jane chuckled, shaking her head as she watched him go. She found herself liking this prospective son-in-law even more.
