Chapter 4
Cameron was stunned. He had been wrong all these years. There was another hair bow identical to the one he possessed! The kind girl from his past wasn't Madison!
"Oh? Was I correct?" Madison's tone was laced with even more disgust, convinced of Cameron's guilt.
Cameron's mind raced. He wasn't listening to her.
"Why aren't you talking? Weren't you so talkative earlier? Cat got your tongue?" Madison pressed, her agitation growing. "How could I have spent five years with someone like you? I'm warning you, Cameron Morgan—if you don't compensate me for my mental distress, I'm never letting you off! You sick pervert! How long have you been eyeing my best friend?"
"Can you shut up?" Cameron said sternly, regaining his composure. "I have never stolen your best friend's belongings!"
He felt overwhelmed, the incessant noise grating on his nerves.
Madison was stunned. Had Cameron just yelled at her? He had always been gentle and meek towards her during their five-year relationship!
"Ahh!" Madison's anger intensified. She yelled, "How dare you yell at me when you've been leeching off my resources all these years, you useless bum!"
"Can you stop yelling? Do you have any idea how annoying it is?" Cameron's anger flared. "I already told you I didn't steal your friend's stuff!"
"No? Then tell me where you got it," Madison gritted angrily.
"What does that have to do with you?" Cameron's eyes were cold.
"You!" Madison's face was flushed purple. "Is this how you behave after our divorce, Cameron? I was blind to have been with a useless, mentally unstable pervert like you. You're disgusting! If you don't compensate me today, then I'll—"
"Just tell me how much money you want!" Cameron interrupted. He wasn't in the mood to argue; he just wanted to find the hair bow's owner.
His directness stunned Madison momentarily, but her disdain quickly returned.
"One million. I want one million dollars!" she demanded. A million dollars was insignificant to her, but she knew it was a fortune for Cameron, who could barely afford a hundred. She clearly intended to publicly humiliate him.
"Alright," Cameron said, wasting no time.
"Did you hear me clearly? I want one million dollars!" Madison snapped.
"I'm not deaf," Cameron replied coldly. He knew her intentions, but did she think he was still the same man?
"Alright. Then hurry up and get me the money. I want it now!" Madison demanded, eager to witness his struggle.
Cameron calmly called Blackheart. "Have someone bring one million dollars in cash to the company right now, Blackheart. I need it urgently."
"Right away, sir. I'll have Mr. Kane get the money ready for you!"
After hanging up, Cameron told Madison, "Just wait two minutes. I've asked someone to bring the cash."
"Hah!" Madison scoffed sarcastically. "You can get money with a phone call? Who do you think you are? The son of the richest family in Yrando? And you called Blackheart? Do you know who he is? He's the richest man in the world! Invent a more believable name next time, or you'll just embarrass yourself!"
Cameron ignored her, infuriating Madison. What was a poor man like him doing pretending in front of her?
A minute passed. Still no activity from the office.
Madison urged impatiently, "Two minutes have passed. Where is this person you mentioned?"
Cameron remained silent, counting the seconds.
Half a minute later.
"Playing dumb again, are you?" Madison gloated.
"Heh," Archie sneered, shaking his head. "Forget it, Madison. You know he won't be able to pay. Let's not waste our time on him. Don't forget our dinner date." He then added, "Hey kid, I'll pay this million on your behalf. Consider it repayment for taking care of Madison all these years. Don't be all bark and no bite."
Archie wrapped his arm around Madison's waist.
"You're so gracious, dear," Madison purred, kissing his cheek to annoy Cameron.
Cameron remained calm. Knowing the hair bow didn't belong to Madison, she was insignificant to him.
"You're lucky this time, Cameron. You better thank Mr. Price for his kindness!" Madison said, oblivious to his indifference.
The two left. Shortly after, the elevator doors opened. Two minutes precisely. A sweating man in a black suit, carrying a large belly, rushed out with two subordinates. "Hurry up! If we delay Mr. Morgan, we're all fired!"
"Yes, Mr. Kane!" The employees struggled with a large bag.
Seeing Cameron, Mr. Kane ran over, exclaiming, "Mr. Morgan!" (The final sentence about a website has been removed as it is out of place and promotional.)
