Chapter 6
Dakota's eyes held no hope; the situation seemed irreversible. Bobby, unbeknownst to Dakota, had frozen at Cameron's words. Naturally, Dakota was unaware of the unfolding events. After thanking Cameron, she started to leave.
"One moment, Ms. Dakota!" Bobby called.
"What's the matter, Mr. Kane?" Dakota asked politely. She didn't expect a change of heart, assuming he had something else to discuss.
"After some consideration, I've decided your proposal is excellent. We can definitely work together!" Bobby exclaimed, much to Dakota's shock.
"Really, Mr. Kane?" Dakota asked nervously, gazing at him.
"Of course, Ms. Dakota," Bobby replied, though in truth, he was far more nervous than she was. All because Cameron had intervened!
Dakota was touched. She never imagined Bobby would change his mind! Could it have been the man standing beside him? She turned to Cameron.
"I'll call you tomorrow for the contract signing after the company meeting," Bobby said, his demeanor a complete reversal of his initial attitude.
"Okay, Mr. Kane. Thank you so much!" Dakota said gratefully.
"The pleasure is mine, Ms. Dakota."
"I won't disturb you further, then," Dakota said, aware that Bobby's change of heart stemmed from Cameron's influence. She didn't want to intrude.
"Alright, Ms. Dakota. See you later."
"See you later, Mr. Kane."
Dakota turned to leave the building, but paused, giving Cameron a curious look.
After Dakota left, Bobby asked Cameron, "Do you know Ms. Dakota, Mr. Morgan?"
"Yes," Cameron nodded.
"Then regarding the profit ratio, sir?" Bobby sought Cameron's instruction.
"Help the Jennings family as much as possible."
"Yes, Mr. Morgan!" Bobby replied, a slight shiver running through him. Dakota's relationship with Cameron seemed far from simple, considering his words. He'd nearly made a serious mistake!
"I'll leave the contract signing to you, Mr. Kane. I'll be leaving first," Cameron said, his mind focused on seeing Dakota again.
"Take care, Mr. Morgan," Bobby said respectfully as Cameron departed.
Cameron expected Dakota to be long gone, but as he exited, he saw her standing outside.
When Dakota saw Cameron, she exclaimed happily, "Oh, hi there!"
"Were you waiting for me?" Cameron asked.
"Mhm," Dakota nodded. "Thank you so much for what you did earlier!"
"You're welcome, Ms. Dakota. Mr. Kane only agreed to work with you because your proposal was well-considered," Cameron said with a smile. Dakota appreciated his kindness and the lack of arrogance after his significant assistance.
"Um… are you free now?" Dakota asked.
"Yes. Why?"
"I-I would like to buy you a cup of coffee to thank you. Of course, I don't mean to just repay the favor with a drink; I genuinely want to show my gratitude. You can refuse if it's inconvenient—"
"No trouble at all. I'd love a cup of coffee," Cameron said, smiling and interrupting her.
"Really?" Dakota gazed at him happily. She finally had a chance to properly thank him.
"Really," Cameron's warm smile remained.
"That's great! Do you prefer coffee or tea?"
"You can choose. I'm fine with either," Cameron replied, hoping to learn more about Dakota.
"Then let's go to Islander's Cafe. They have excellent coffee and it's nearby. It won't take long," Dakota suggested, her excitement evident.
"Sure thing," Cameron grinned.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at Islander's Cafe. After finding a table, Dakota ordered two of their signature cappuccinos.
As she stirred her coffee, Dakota said happily, "The cappuccino here is famous. Why don't you try it?"
"Alright," Cameron responded. He took a sip. "Mm. This is really good."
"Right?" Dakota grinned, meeting his gaze. "Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Dakota Jennings. It's a pleasure to meet you. Thank you so much for helping me earlier!"
"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Ms. Jennings," Cameron said with a smile.
"I'm truly thankful. Mr. Kane wouldn't have agreed to work with me without your intervention. By the way, how do you know Mr. Kane? I've never seen him take advice from others before."
Dakota's eyes held a curious gaze. She sensed a connection between Mr. Kane's decision and Cameron. The final sentence ("Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.") was removed as it is irrelevant to the text and appears to be an advertisement.
"Well, about that…" Cameron clicked his tongue. "Would you believe me if I told you I was his boss?"
"You're his boss?" Dakota's eyes widened in disbelief. "But I heard Mr. Kane answers to Blackheart."
"Haha! What if I told you I'm Blackheart's boss too?" Cameron chuckled.
Dakota saw his jest and grinned. "You're kind of funny, you know that?"
"Haha, I think so too." Cameron laughed.
Dakota then asked, "Right, I still don't know your name after all this time."
"Who, me?" Cameron smiled. "I'm Cam…"
Buzz.
Dakota's phone vibrated. Madison was calling.
