Chapter 65
Willie’s eyes flickered. Was Cameron telling the truth?
Dakota’s father, Leonard, sat up straighter. His solemn expression showed he wanted to know who Cameron really was.
Under everyone’s watchful gaze, Cameron smiled. “I didn’t do much, Mr. and Mrs. Jennings. Bobby Kane and I are friends, and I simply asked him for a favor.”
He couldn’t tell them he owned Darth Holdings. He didn’t care if they doubted him, but if Dakota found out, she’d feel pressured and think he’d been lying. [The website promotion has been removed.]
Cameron didn’t want to disappoint Dakota.
“What? You’re Mr. Kane’s friend?” Their shock was evident.
“I told you Cameron is amazing!” Dakota declared proudly.
Seeing Florence’s dumbfounded expression, Dakota felt happier than she had after achieving anything before.
“Dakota, is he telling the truth?” Florence was incredulous.
“Of course!” Dakota said proudly. “Cameron is not only good friends with Bobby, but he’s also close with Lord Blackheart!”
Cameron had told her this before. His past connection to the Morgan family had led to a relationship with Lord Blackheart. This shocked everyone.
“What? He’s close with Lord Blackheart?” Florence and the others were speechless.
However, they soon realized something was amiss. It was surprising enough that Cameron was friends with Bobby, but how could a young man be close to Lord Blackheart? It seemed impossible! Lord Blackheart was the world’s richest man, with assets worldwide. Why would he be close to Cameron?
Furthermore, if Cameron knew Bobby and Lord Blackheart, why didn’t he have a job? A word from either could propel him to great success!
“You brat! Lying is your only talent! No wonder you deceived Dakota!” Florence sneered. “If you’re so influential, why did Dakota have to beg for you?”
“Haha!” Willie joined in. “Anyone can claim to be Mr. Kane’s friend these days. If you were really his friend, why haven’t I seen you around?”
“Is that so strange?” Cameron smiled.
“Of course! As deputy manager of Darth Holdings’ Human Resources, I know Bobby well, both personally and professionally. He often invites close friends to celebrations. I’ve been invited several times. But I’ve never met you.”
“Or maybe you’re not actually acquainted with Mr. Kane?” Willie’s mocking smile widened with each word.
“Sorry, I didn’t know about that,” Cameron said, shaking his head.
“Haha!” Willie laughed. The lie was clear.
“I knew he was lying!” Florence snorted.
Leonard and Jane’s expressions soured. They weren’t prejudiced against the poor, accepting anyone Dakota married as long as they were happy. But Cameron’s actions were disappointing.
