Chapter 72
“What a relief! That annoying guy finally left!” Dakota watched Willie go, feeling relieved.
“Alright, Dakota, why don’t you and Cam watch some TV? I’ll call you both when dinner’s ready,” Jane told her daughter.
“Okay, Mom,” Dakota said, leading Cameron to the sofa.
Florence quickly followed. “Young man, you’re Cameron, right? From now on, I’ll call you Cam. After you marry Dakota, we’ll be family,” she said warmly.
“Okay,” Cameron replied nonchalantly. He’d noticed Florence’s attitude toward Dakota. Dakota herself looked upset. But Florence didn’t seem to mind; her smile only widened. “Cam, what happened earlier was a misunderstanding. Please don’t take it to heart. We’ll be family.”
“Dakota, please keep Cameron company. I’m going to the balcony to get some sun,” she said, leaving with Charlie.
The sun had already set. Dakota sighed helplessly. “Cameron, that’s just my aunt. She’s a snob. Ignore her.”
“I know,” Cameron smiled, turning to her. “How about you? Are you feeling better?”
Taken aback by his affection, Dakota blushed, but quickly recovered. “Thank you, I’m not sad anymore.”
“That’s good,” Cameron replied gently.
Dakota’s heart fluttered. To distract herself, she turned on the TV, selecting a comedy show.
Cameron laughed heartily. Dakota, however, was distracted.

“Cam, Dakota, Charlie, Florence, Leo, dinner’s ready!” Jane called.
“Coming!” Everyone rushed in.
Chapter 72
The dining table held a variety of delicious dishes. Leonard eyed them excitedly.
“Cam, let’s have this drumstick!” Jane enthusiastically offered Cameron a large one.
“Thank you, Jane!”
“Don’t be so polite,” Jane smiled, liking him more and more.
“Cam, can you drink? Let’s have a few!” Leonard chuckled.
“I can!” Cameron readily agreed.
“Haha, great! Let me pour you some!” Leonard said.
“Don’t pour too much. I won’t spare you if you get him drunk!” Jane warned.
“Haha, alright, dear,” Leonard replied.
The dinner atmosphere was joyful and harmonious.
Midway through, Leonard and Jane asked Cameron about his relationship with Dakota, and how they met. He answered with prepared responses. Regarding Mr. Kane, he explained that Kane was his business partner. They’d done business, but the market was bad, so he’d temporarily closed up shop. The two hundred million dollars were owed to him by Kane.
The Jennings were impressed by his achievements and Kane’s connection.
Charlie and Florence listened intently, deciding to curry favor with Cameron. He was a goldmine for the family!
Dakota, sitting beside him, felt exhilarated as her parents praised Cameron.
After dinner, Charlie and Florence politely excused themselves.
Leonard, happier than he’d been in ages, drank until he fell asleep in his room.
After everyone else left, Jane smiled. “Cam, how did you get here?”
“Dakota drove me,” Cameron replied.
“I see,” Jane mused, checking the time. “It’s almost nine. It’s not safe to drive at night. Why don’t you stay overnight, Cam? Dakota can take you back tomorrow.”
Cameron was shocked. Dakota was surprised too; her mother was usually more conservative.
Jane, seeing their reactions, asked pointedly, “Cam, have you and Dakota…?”
Cameron pursed his lips. “Nope.”
“It doesn’t matter. You will eventually. Stay here and keep Dakota company. She’s stressed from work and has trouble sleeping. You can help relieve her stress.”
Jane sighed and subtly nudged Dakota. “Dakota, take Cam to your room. Don’t keep him standing!”
Dakota snapped to attention. She secretly looked forward to it. With a shy glance at Cameron, she said, “Cameron, it’s late, and it’s not safe. Why don’t you stay at my place tonight?”
“Sure…” Cameron agreed.
He awkwardly followed her to her room.
