197 Rooftop
Oliviaโs POV
With a racing heart, I climbed the back stairs to the rooftop. Every part of me screamed against it. Even my wolf growled, warning me to turn backโthat something felt wrong, that whatever waited might be dangerous.
But I ignored it. Curiosity burned too deeply. What more could there possibly be? What else could hurt me that hasn't already?
When I pushed open the rooftop door and stepped out, the cold air hit me, and I exhaled deeply. My eyes darted around; the rooftop was empty. There was no one except me.
I exhaled slowly, tension crawling up my spine. Maybe it was a trap. Maybe they changed their minds. Maybeโ
But suddenly, I froze. There. She hadnโt been there a second ago. I was sure of it. But suddenly, a woman stood at the edge of the rooftop. It was like she had justโฆ appeared. One blink, and there she was, her long coat fluttering in the breeze. Her presence was chilling, as if the air itself bent around her.
I narrowed my eyes, my heart pounding harder.
โWho are you?โ I asked, my voice trembling despite my desperate attempt to sound strong.
She didnโt speak. She just stood there, her back turned to me. A chill ran through me. Something wasnโt right.
I took a cautious step forward.
โDid you send the letter?โ I asked again, louder this time.
Still, no answer. Thenโso slowly it almost felt unrealโshe turned to face me. The second our eyes metโฆ I stopped breathing. It was like staring into a mirror. She looked exactly like me, but an older version. Same eyes. Same face. Same curve of the mouth.
How can a total stranger and I have such resemblance? It was as if I was seeing my future self, twenty years hence. What in the worldโฆ?
I staggered back, panicked.
โWhatโฆ who are you?โ I whispered.
She stared at me with an incomprehensible calmness, as if unsurprised to see me, as if sheโd known I would come.
โI wasnโt supposed to meet you,โ she said softly. Her voice was like mineโฆ but smoother, slower, older, somehow. โBut I had to.โ
My brows furrowed. โWhat are you talking about? Who are you?โ
She looked away, scanning the area as if watching for someone.
โIโm not permitted to tell you everything,โ she said carefully. โJust this: no matter what happensโฆ you must not leave this pack.โ
โWhat?โ I snapped, stepping forward. โWhy? Why shouldnโt I leave? Why does everyone keep trying to trap me here?โ
Her gaze returned to mine. โBecause your safety lies hereโฆ That is the main reason youโve been kept here all this while.โ
I frowned and shook my head, my heart racing again. This was insane.
โThis is a lie,โ I said firmly. โThe triplets sent you, didnโt they? They mustโve paid you to pull this little stunt. To get into my head. Make me doubt my decision. Manipulate me again.โ
She didnโt flinch. She didnโt deny it. She just watched me, like she knew I wouldnโt believe her.
โI get it,โ I spat. โThey think Iโm stupid. That Iโll fall for this. But Iโm not. So you can go back and tell themโโ
โThey didnโt send me,โ she said, sounding like she was speaking to an annoying child. โAnd this is no stunt.โ
Then she looked at me, truly looked at meโฆ and there was pain in her eyes. Deep, endless pain.
โIโm sorry, Olivia,โ she said quietly. โI wish I could tell you more. But Iโve already said too much.โ
And just like thatโbefore I could speak again, before I could even blinkโshe was gone. As if the wind had taken her with it.
For a moment, I couldnโt move. My hands trembled, my mind still racing.
But before I could gather a single coherent thought, the door creaked open behind me. I turned sharply, my heart still pounding.
Alpha Damien stepped through, his eyes locking with mine. His brow furrowed as he strode closer, his gaze darting around the rooftop as if searching for something or someone.
โWhy are you here?โ he asked, his voice low but laced with suspicion. โWhat are you doing all alone?โ

I hesitated.
โI just needed air,โ I said quickly, trying to sound normal. โEverything downstairs feltโฆ suffocating.โ
Damienโs eyes narrowed, still scanning the space behind me.
โYouโre lying,โ he said, almost too quietly. โYour scentโฆ itโs disturbed. And thereโs something else. Something faint, but not yours.โ
I stiffened. My wolf stirred uneasily.
โAlpha Damien, Iโm not in the mood,โ I muttered, trying to push past him.
But he stepped into my path, blocking me.
โWho was here?โ he demanded, his voice sharper. โOlivia. Tell me the truth.โ
I met his gaze, trying to keep my expression neutral, even as my heart pounded wildly.
Should I tell him?
โNo one,โ I said flatly.
His jaw clenched. He didnโt believe me.
โSomethingโs wrong,โ he said, more to himself than to me. โI can feel it.โ
โWell maybe something is wrong,โ I snapped, surprising even myself. โBut not everything needs to be about you, Damien. Maybe Iโm just tired. Maybe I just needed to be alone.โ
He stared at me for a long moment. Then, softer: โYouโre shaking.โ
I looked away. โIโm fine.โ
He didnโt press, but I noticed he wasnโt believing me.
โIf anything is going on,โ he said finally, โI must know.โ
I frowned. Of course. He thought one of the triplets had been here.
I lifted my chin and looked up at him.

โI can take care of myself.โ
That made him pause. His face tightened, but he didnโt reply.
โLetโs go back,โ he said instead, seemingly not in the mood to argue. โYouโve been up here long enough.โ
I hesitated. I didnโt want to go back to the party, but I had no choice. I had to keep up the act of being Alpha Damienโs perfect girlfriend.
I forced myself to follow Alpha Damien down the stairs, my heart still pounding from what Iโd seenโor thought Iโd seenโon the rooftop.
By the time we reached the living room, the party was in full swing again. Music pulsed softly through the air, laughter and murmured conversations blending like perfume and smoke. The room felt tighter now, heavier.
Damien glanced down at me. โIโll get us drinks,โ he said simply. โPlease stay here.โ Without waiting for my reply, he turned and disappeared into the crowd.
I let out a slow breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts, but then I felt eyes on me. Two women approached, hate clearly written on their faces.
One leaned in, her voice syrupy and cruel. โLook at her,โ she murmured loud enough for me to hear. โAre you not ashamed, Olivia? Fucking your mateโs uncle? Wasnโt three Alphas enough for you, or did you have to try your luck with Tiger Uncle, too?โ
My frown deepened. Anger bubbled inside me.
The other one snickered. โSoon sheโll probably be spreading her legs for their father. Isnโt that right, our dear Olivia? You just canโt help yourself. Always hungry for moreโฆโ
I didnโt let the words finish before a different kind of anger consumed me. Before I knew it, I grabbed her by the neck and pinned her to the nearest wall.
The music slowed. Conversations died. All eyes turned.
My grip tightened, my claws out, digging into her neck, causing blood to run down my fingers. People gasped, but I didnโt care.
โYou have no right to judge me,โ I said coldly, clearly, every word sharp with anger. โYou know nothing about what Iโve been through. You havenโt lived my life. You havenโt carried my pain. You stand there with your perfect little smiles and your perfect little lies, acting as if youโre betterโwhen the truth is you couldnโt survive a single day in my shoes.โ
โKill her.โ A voice whispered in my headโa voice I hadnโt heard before. A voice that was that of my wolf.
Gasps rippled around the room. The woman stiffened, her face paling, life draining from her.
โShe will kill her.โ Worried voices spoke from behind, but I didnโt let go, even though I wanted to.
โOlivia, what are you doing?โ Damienโs voice rang out sharply, thundering through the silence.
I ignored him. My claws were still embedded in the womanโs neck, her blood warm on my fingertips. My breath came out in short, shaky bursts. I could feel my wolf howling beneath my skin, wild and hungry, begging for more.
โLet her go,โ Damien said firmly, but not loudly. His voice was carefulโcontrolledโlike I was a bomb about to explode.
โI said let her go,โ he repeated, stepping closer, this time it was a command.
For a second, I didnโt move. I couldnโt. That voiceโฆ the one inside meโฆ it wasnโt just my wolf. It was something darker. Something I hadnโt heard before.
โDo it,โ it whispered again. โKill her. Let them all see what you really are.โ

I blinked, and for a brief moment, I saw my reflection in the wide glass window nearby. Blood on my hands. Eyes glowing. A snarl on my lips.
Whatโฆ am I becoming?
โOLIVIA, you are killing her.โ
With a growl, I shoved the woman away, watching as she crumpled to the floor, choking and coughing, hands trembling as she crawled backwards into her friendโs arms.
The room was dead silent.
