Leaving

Oliviaโ€™s POV

โ€œIโ€™m leaving,โ€ I announced.

A heavy silence fell over the room. I studied their facesโ€“confused, scared, and full of pain.

Levi, who looked weak and drained, took a shaky step toward me and reached out, but I moved away quickly and frowned.

My heart ached. My wolf was silent, but I could still feel itโ€“that deep love and care I had for them. It hadnโ€™t gone away, even if we were no longer mates. I wasnโ€™t surprised. I had loved them long before we were bonded.

โ€œIs there anything we could do to make you change your mind?โ€ Levi asked softly.

I stared at him coldly. โ€œAbsolutely nothing.โ€

The three of them exchanged glances before looking back at me. The pain in their eyes was so raw, I had to turn away to stop myself from softening.

โ€œWhere are you going?โ€ Lennox asked finally.

For a second, I was stunned. I expected them to argue, to begโ€“to protestโ€“but they didnโ€™t. Just like with the council, they gave up too easily.

Why? Why did they always let go so quickly?

โ€œAt least please let us know where youโ€™re going,โ€ Louis added. โ€œSo our hearts can rest a little.โ€

I looked away. The truth wasโ€ฆ I didnโ€™t know. I only knew I couldnโ€™t stay.

โ€œI have no idea,โ€ I said honestly.

I saw their panic grow.

โ€œNo, Oliviaโ€ฆ at least know where youโ€™re headed,โ€ Lennox said quickly, his voice tight with concern.

I sighed and shrugged. โ€œIโ€™m going to my motherโ€™s pack. Sheโ€™s there.โ€

They all let out a breath, clearly relieved, and nodded slowly.

Lennox reached into his pocket and pulled something out. He walked closer and held it in front of me.

It was a braceletโ€“simple, but clearly crafted with care. A red gem shined at its center.

โ€œWe had a feeling this might happen,โ€ he said quietly. โ€œThat you might reject usโ€ฆ that youโ€™d want to leave.โ€

He paused, his voice trembling a little.

โ€œSoโ€ฆ we prepared this.โ€

I frowned and looked at it, confused.

โ€œItโ€™s not just any bracelet,โ€ Lennox continued. โ€œWe asked a witch to enchant it. Itโ€™s made with our blood.โ€

I blinked in shock.

โ€œYou may not believe in the prophecyโ€ฆ about your life being in danger,โ€ Louis added, โ€œbut we do. We believe every word.โ€

โ€œEven though weโ€™re not your mates anymore, we canโ€™t feel your painโ€ฆ or know when youโ€™re in danger,โ€ Levi said gently. โ€œBut with this on your wrist, we will. If anything happens to youโ€“if youโ€™re hurt, scared, or in troubleโ€“weโ€™ll know.โ€

My chest tightened, but I shook my head firmly. โ€œNo. Iโ€™ll be fine. I donโ€™t need your protection anymore.โ€

Lennox stepped closer, eyes begging. โ€œPlease, Olivia.โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ I said again, turning away. โ€œIโ€™ll be okay. I donโ€™t need this.โ€

He hesitated, then softly said, โ€œIf you ever loved usโ€ฆ even for a momentโ€ฆ please. Let this be our last wish.โ€

I froze.

That sentence.

It hit something deep inside me.

I stared at the bracelet in Lennoxโ€™s hand for what felt like forever.

Why were they doing this now? Why were they making it harder to let go?

This braceletโ€ฆ it would only remind me of them. Of what we used to have. Of what we lost.

Still, that one sentence kept ringing in my mindโ€“If you ever loved usโ€ฆ

And I did. I still did. That was the painful truth.

Slowly, I reached out and took the bracelet from Lennox. My fingers brushed his, and I felt him tremble slightly.

He let out a shaky breath and gently helped put it on.

The moment the bracelet touched my wrist, I felt it.

A strange warmth spread through me.

It didnโ€™t hurt. It didnโ€™t burn.

It justโ€ฆ settled.

Like a piece of something I didnโ€™t know was missing had been returned.

โ€œThere,โ€ Lennox said softly, eyes fixed on it. โ€œNow, if anything happensโ€ฆ weโ€™ll feel it.โ€

Louis stepped forward slowly, his voice calm. โ€œOlivia, thereโ€™s something else.โ€

I looked at him, my heart already heavy.

โ€œWe just found outโ€ฆ your father is alive,โ€ he said gently. โ€œAnd heโ€™s not guilty. He didnโ€™t do any of the things they said he did.โ€

I nodded slowly. โ€œI know.โ€

Their eyes widened a little in shock.

โ€œI found out not long ago,โ€ I said. โ€œThatโ€™s why I have to go. I have to find him.โ€

The room went quiet for a moment, the weight of everything thick in the air.

I took a step back and gave them one last look. โ€œGoodbye.โ€

Just as I turned, Levi spoke. โ€œWaitโ€“Oliviaโ€ฆ can we hug you? Just once?โ€

I paused.

Every part of me wanted to say no. I was scared it would weaken meโ€ฆ make it harder to walk away.

But thenโ€ฆ my wolf whispered softly inside me.

โ€œLet them.โ€

I slowly turned back, and nodded.

Levi moved first.

His arms wrapped around me gently, but firmly. No mate bond. No sparks.

And yetโ€ฆ it felt like home.

It reminded me of the pastโ€“of being younger, when everything was simpler, when Iโ€™d run into his arms and feel like nothing could go wrong.

For a second, I closed my eyes and let myself feel it.

When he pulled away, Louis stepped forward and wrapped me in a warm hug.

His arms were calm, steadyโ€ฆ comforting.

Just like always.

Like the quiet peace I used to feel during storms, when heโ€™d hold me until I fell asleep.

Then came Lennox.

He said nothing. Just pulled me into his arms.

And that was when it broke me.

The moment his arms wrapped around me, I felt it-

That protectiveness. That strength.

It was like being wrapped in a shield from the world. Like nothing could touch me if I stayed there.

Tears spilled down my cheeks before I could stop them.

I pulled back quickly, wiping my face. โ€œI have to go,โ€ I whispered, my voice breaking.

Then, without looking back, I turned and ran out of the room.

I ran before the pain dragged me back in.

Before I forgot why I needed to leave.

Before I let love make me stay.
