Confession Lennoxโs POV
โAccording to him, Oliviaโs enemies are looking for him. Although they donโt know him, once they see him, they will know he is the one. They knew Olivia is still alive and they wanted her dead, so they have been looking for him in order to get to her, so he asked me if he could remain in the cell for now. I agreed to his request. But it was too late. We were caught.โ
They nodded and disappeared down the hall. The room remained tenseโthick with all the questions that had no answers yet. Minutes later, the guards returned, practically dragging Anitaโs father in. He stumbled forward, confusion all over his wrinkled face. โWhat is going on?โ
My mind reeled at the layers upon layers of secrets.
His lips parted, but nothing came out. His eyes darted between me, my brothers, and then our parents.
Father looked at us with guilty eyes. โEverything we didโฆ everything I didโฆ was for your best interestโฆโ
โNo!โ Levi angrily cut her off. โDonโt even think of apologizing, Motherโฆโ he said through gritted teeth.
My frown deepened. So making Olivia and her mother Omega was Mr. Parkerโs request.
โThatโs why,โ she said softly, โwhen Parker told your father which family Olivia came fromโฆ we thought it was best to separate you all.โ She looked down for a moment, guilt flashing across her face.
โHe said Oliviaโs father, his best friend, would never rest in his grave if he knew we allowed a bond to form between our families. He reminded us of the hatredโof the danger. He said the Blackwells and our family were never meant to be connected. No link should ever exist.โ
I turned to Father and glared at him. โWhat happened to Mr. Parker?โ I demanded.
โThen Anita declared she was pregnant. I used that,โ she confessed. โI thought it was a good opportunity. A way to end the bond before something worse happened. I wanted you three to mark Anita and end your bond with Olivia. Not because I hated Olivia. I never did.โ She looked me right in the eyes now.
โGuards!โ I barked toward the open door, my voice shaking the walls. Within seconds, two guards rushed in.
โWe are sorry,โ Mother replied, but it only fueled my anger.
โUntil Mr. ParkerโOliviaโs guardianโreached out to us,โ she continued, โand warned that what we were doing wasnโt right.โ She took a breath.
Mother nodded. โYes. Despite her bloodline. Despite everything. I accepted her.โ
โIt wasnโt her. It was the bloodline. The war. The fear. I didnโt want my sons to be caught in that again.โ
My throat tightened.
โSo you accepted Olivia?โ Louis asked, a bit surprised.
โYou shouldโve trusted us,โ Louis finally said, his angry voice booming in the air. โYou shouldโve told us everything from the beginning!โ
Father nodded slowly. โBecause I faked his death.โ
โIโm going to ask you a question,โ I said coldly. โAnd you will tell me nothing but the truth. Do you understand me?โ He swallowed hard.
โYes or no!โ I roared. He flinched. Then, finally, he nodded slowly. โYes.โ
โNow,โ I snarled. โDid you cast a spell on the letters sent to us? Did you enchant them - yes or no?โ
Mother stepped forward then, her expression unreadable.
I scoffed.
Louis raked a hand through his hair. โAll this happened under our nose, and we had no knowledge of it,โ
We all looked at Father, whose brow was furrowed as if he was trying to recall. Then he nodded. โYESโฆ Anitaโs father was there.โ
โSo we forged the letters,โ she admitted. โBut we didnโt bewitch them. We only forged the letters, and it worked. But the Moon Goddess played a cruel trick by mating her with you three anyway.โ
I snarled and glared at him. โWe didnโt ask you toโฆ we never asked you to do any of the things you did,โ I spat angrily.
I couldnโt believe what I was hearing.
โBecause if you dare to lie to me,โ I continued, my tone like a knife, โI will not only kill youโฆโ I stepped closer, my voice dropping into a low growl. โโฆbut I will wipe out your entire family.โ Gasps echoed behind me. I didnโt care. My fists were clenched. My eyes were burning. He trembled slightly under my glare.
I stared at her. At the woman who raised us. Who smiled through our victories and stood tall in our defeats. And yet right now, all I could see was betrayal. Not the kind that bruised, but the kind that shattered.
โI-โ he stuttered. โI can explain-โ
โBring me Anitaโs father. Now,โ I ordered sharply. โDrag him here if you have to.โ
โAs you know, he was accused of stealing one of the family heirlooms. It was found in his possession. He got arrested, but I didnโt believe itโฆ I wanted to release him, but he strangely told me not toโฆโ
The room went deathly silent. Until Louis muttered the exact thing we were all thinking.
โMr. Parkerโฆโ he continued, โasked one thing of me before he was taken.โ We listened closely. โHe told me, if I truly cared about Oliviaโs safetyโeven just a littleโI should make his entire family Omega and let them stay in the packhouse. That way, she will be protected.โ
โHe couldโve benefited from all of this.โ
My eyes narrowed. โBut no one ever said he was freedโฆโ
โI have a question,โ Louis spoke, and I turned my attention to him. โYou said you gave the letter to the guards who gave them to us. Was there anybody there?โ Louis asked, and I understood where he was going. If our parents didnโt spell the letter as they claimed, then someone did it.
I believed her. Mother was nice to Olivia at a certain time.
โHe had everything to gain from us staying away from Olivia,โ Louis added darkly. โEverything.โ My wolf stirred, growling low in my chest.
Father inhaled deeply before he spoke.
Mother stepped forward with tear-filled eyes. โSonsโฆ pleaseโฆโ
I blinked in shock.
โShut it,โ I snapped, stepping toward him with slow, threatening steps. โIโm not in a good mood.โ His eyes widened as I stopped inches from his face, every ounce of anger I felt leaking through my voice.
Mother continued. โWe are so sorry, sonsโฆ we should have just told you three the truth, but we were worried that even with the truth, you three would still want her, so we did what we had to do.โ
Silence filled the room again. So much deception. So many tangled lies.
My heart clenched. She looked back up, her eyes heavy with regret.
โSince Alphas canโt reject their mate, your father had to pressure you into accepting the bond. And when you finally did, I told him we should respect it. You were married now. Fated. We had no choice but to live with it.โ
A part of me wanted to scream. Another part wanted to break something. Instead, I clenched my fists and turned away, breathing through the rage that wanted to tear its way out of me.
โBut after a few yearsโฆโ Father continued, โI couldnโt keep him in that prison any longer. It wasnโt right. Heโd done nothing wrong. So I arranged his release.โ
โAnd thatโฆโ Mother said slowly, โwas when your father and I became truly conflicted.โ She glanced at Father, who stood silent.
โAnd later on,โ Father added, โhis wife joined him.โ
We all froze. Fatherโs words echoed in my head like a sudden, loud clap of thunder. โAnitaโs father was there.โ
โUntilโฆโ We all leaned in, instinctively bracing ourselves.
โThat was all that happened,โ Father said, finishing the shocking revelation. Dumbfounded, I exchanged gazes with my brothers. This was more than what we thought. This was more than an enmity. This was a lifelong hate between both families. No wonder Calvin had used a snake and a human to make his point.
โOf course he would,โ Levi growled. โIf we had accepted Anita, her child wouldโve become our heir.โ
I glared at my parents and felt nothing but anger and hate for them. If only they had told us everything in the beginning, things could have been better. We could have solved it ourselves, but no, they decided to control our lives, and in the process they ruined it.
โHe agreed to it,โ Father said quickly. โI smuggled him out and sent him to live in the city of humans. Somewhere far from our kindโwhere he could live without being hunted.โ
โI even wanted peace between you three,โ she said, almost whispering. โThat was my intention. I truly wanted to fix things.โ She paused. And I could feel itโthat drop in the air. Like the tension before a storm. Her lips trembled slightly.
I furrowed my browโฆ waiting for Father to continue.
