The Decision
I opened the door slowly. The room was dark, quiet.
โI know what youโre saying,โ he murmured, voice rough. โItโs not just Lennox. Weโve all been on edge. Every time she breathes near me, my wolf wants to pin her down and make her ours.โ
โOlivia is still confusedโฆ so many things are going on right now, so I think itโs best we donโt engage in any sexual activities. That way, we wonโt lose control,โ he suggested.
โI hate myself for that.โ
It wasnโt easyโGoddess, it was torture.
โIโll go,โ he whispered, rising to his feet. โBut tell herโฆโ His voice broke again. โTell her Iโm sorry. Tell her Iโll never lose control like that again.โ
โIโll talk to her,โ he added.
Louis stepped forward, calm but firm. โWe saved her, brother. You were losing control.โ
I nodded. โThatโs good.โ
And thenโfinallyโhe nodded.
Then, quietly, he said, โI ran until my legs gave out. Then I shifted. Then I ran some more.โ
Then quietly, I said, โYouโre not a monster, Lennox. Youโre a mate whoโs hurting.โ His breathing slowed slightly. His shoulders slumped, just a bit.
Slowly, he turned around, and this time there was no longer fury in his eyesโI saw something else. Pain. Shame.
He didnโt answer right away. Instead, he walked to the bathroom, splashed cold water on his face from the sink, and stared at his reflection like he didnโt recognize himself.
โI wanted to worship her,โ he murmured. โBut I nearlyโfuck. I nearly ruined everything.โ
A silence settled between us again.
The door creaked open, and Lennox stepped inside, drenched in sweat, his chest bare, his breathing low and steady like someone whoโd been to hell and back and just barely made it out.
As I turned to leave, he called after me.
Lennox shut his eyes, breathing heavily, then nodded.
Louis got up to his feet. โItโs lateโฆ see you tomorrow.โ
I stood slowly. โYou okay?โ
โNO!โ he bellowed, lunging forward as if he could tear through space to follow her. But it was too lateโshe was gone.
The stars shifted in the sky, and eventually I dozed offโonly to jolt awake when I felt it.
I sighed and sat on the bed. A moment of silence hung in the air before Louis spoke.
โGoodโฆ Iโll speak to Lennox about it. I believe he will agree.โ
He closed his eyes for a moment. Then opened them again.
Louis walked over, kneeling beside him. He placed a hand on Lennoxโs back. โSheโll come back,โ he said softly. โBut only if she knows sheโs safe with us. You need to get yourself in check.โ
โTomorrow morning then.โ
His head lifted. โYouโre serious?โ
He looked up at me, eyes still glowing, but wet with unshed tears.
Empty.
But we hadnโt.
โLevi.โ
Louis and I exchanged worried gazes as we watched him, waiting for his next line of action. But then I noddedโhis onceโtrembling body was no longer trembling. It looked relaxed.
His fists slammed into the wall. His chest heaved, muscles bulging, veins rising under his skin as he snarled like a wild beast cornered and wounded.
โSheโs not just yours,โ I had touched her like, stepping between him and Louis. โSheโs ours. And if that while you werenโt yourself, do you think she would have forgiven you? You could have hurt her.โ
I paused.
โAlright,โ he said. โThatโs fair.โ
Lennoxโs head dropped forward, sweat dripping from his hairline.
I nodded and watched him leave.
I nodded slowly, understanding all too well. โThatโs the mate bond, Lennox. Itโs driving us. But if we give in when weโre not in controlโฆ weโll destroy her. And ourselves.โ
โNo,โ he said. โYou two stopped me. Thatโs the difference.โ
Minutes turned into an hour. Then two.
โGood,โ Louis muttered. โHe needs to run.โ
Louis ran a hand over his face, finally meeting my gaze.
โI have to talk to her.โ
โHeading toward the northern woods,โ I replied. โHeโs shifting. I can feel it.โ
Eventually, I stood and made my way to Lennoxโs room.
Lennox dropped to his knees beside the shattered bed, his fists clenched against the broken frame.
Especially for Alphas like us. Born to claim. Built to dominate. Designed to mark, take, and make her ours.
I gave him a light pat on the back and stood. โGood. Get some rest, brother.โ
I sat down beside him.
โYou have to,โ I said, placing a hand on his shoulder. โBecause if you donโtโฆ sheโll never trust you again.โ
To have our mate this close
โLennox-โ I reached out, cautiously.
โI need her, Louisโฆ I need her more than I need air.โ
And waited.
A long silence passed between us, broken only by the wind rustling outside the cracked window.
โThanks. For stopping me. For not letting me become a monster.โ
โNot tonight,โ I warned. โLet her rest. She should be asleep by now.โ
"Find balance, this desire will destroy us." "We all do," I said. "But if we do find balance..."
I didnโt say anything at first.
He turned and walked toward the door, his body trembling from the aftermathโthe shame.
โShe wanted me!โ he snarled, his voice feral and guttural. โI could smell it. I could feel it. She is mineโmine!โ
โI-โ His voice cracked. โI donโt know if I can.โ
โThis bondโฆ itโs messing with us. I canโt even think straight when sheโs near.โ
Then he walked past me and sat heavily on the couch. He rubbed his face with his hands and groaned.
โI saw her,โ he added, voice quiet. โIn my head. Over and over. The way she looked at me before she vanished. She was scared, Levi. Of me.โ
My wolf let out a disapproving growl inside me, but I ignored him and nodded in agreement.
โNo,โ I said firmly. โNot like this. Youโll scare her even more. Go cool off. Shift. Run. Scream into the forest. Just donโt communicate with her until youโve locked your wolf back down.โ
โThatโs why Louis and I talked,โ I said. โWeโre going to set boundaries. No more kisses. No serious physical contact until sheโs sure she wants it.โ
I nodded. โDead serious. Until sheโs ready, we donโt push. And if she is ready, then we still make sure we are too. We wonโt hurt her. Not even by accident.โ
Maybe to be close. Maybe to make sure he came back. Maybe because I needed to see with my own eyes that he was still Lennox and not the creature that had tried to take Olivia in a haze of wild, uncontrolled desire.
I waited.
Lennox. Powerful, heavy presence.
After Louis left, I remained seated on the edge of the bed, staring at the chaos left behind. Oliviaโs scent lingering in the air made my wolf restless. Hungry. But I forced him back, swallowing the burn of desire in my throat. I couldnโt risk losing control, not like Lennox had.
Lennoxโs jaw tightened. His nostrils flared. He looked like he wanted to kill me. I thought he would attack me, but surprisingly he didnโt. Instead, he turned and violently kicked a stool aside, facing the wall.
โDamn it! What have I done?โ he murmured regretfully, his eyes filled with guilt. Lennox winced like the words physically hurt.
I extended my senses, searching for the flicker of his presence.
Leviโs POV
So I walked in.
We couldnโt.
โWhereโs Lennox now?โ Louis asked.
Louis looked worried too. He understood what I meant.
He paused when he saw me.
I didnโt know why exactly.
โShe should be back in the Nightshade Pack,โ Louis replied. โI can feel her aura. Sheโs scared. Still aroused, but scared.โ
โWe should come to a decisiรณn,โ Louis said out loud, and I moved my attention toward him.
He turned back around, his eyes no longer glowing but raw with emotion.
โDONโT!โ he snapped, spinning toward me, his eyes glowing a bright, deadly green, โYou took her from me!โ
The moment Olivia disappeared into the air, Lennox released a growl so loud, it shook the walls.
I sat down on the small couch near the window and leaned back, resting my head against the frame. I stared out at the trees, listening for the faintest echo of paws against soil.
He exhaled long and deep, like the weight had finally started to lift.
I stared at the cracked bed, the sheets tangled with Oliviaโs scent, the wild energy still lingering in the air.
โWhere is she now?โ
And still hold ourselves back.
โI figured youโd be here,โ he said, his voice rough, but calm.
โI didnโt mean to hurt her,โ he whispered hoarsely. โI justโฆ I couldnโt stop. The scent of her, the sound of her voice, her tasteโGoddess, Levi, Iโm losing it. Every day, it gets harder.โ
โI donโt know,โ I admitted. โTonight it was Lennoxโฆ next time it might be me. Or you, Louis.โ
โYou didnโt hurt her,โ I reminded him. โYou stopped. And that counts for something."
Lennox stared at the wall, his jaw clenched.
Louis looked at me, his face unreadable. โYou think heโll be okay?โ
