The Decision

I opened the door slowly. The room was dark, quiet.

โ€œI know what youโ€™re saying,โ€ he murmured, voice rough. โ€œItโ€™s not just Lennox. Weโ€™ve all been on edge. Every time she breathes near me, my wolf wants to pin her down and make her ours.โ€

โ€œOlivia is still confusedโ€ฆ so many things are going on right now, so I think itโ€™s best we donโ€™t engage in any sexual activities. That way, we wonโ€™t lose control,โ€ he suggested.

โ€œI hate myself for that.โ€

It wasnโ€™t easyโ€“Goddess, it was torture.

โ€œIโ€™ll go,โ€ he whispered, rising to his feet. โ€œBut tell herโ€ฆโ€ His voice broke again. โ€œTell her Iโ€™m sorry. Tell her Iโ€™ll never lose control like that again.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll talk to her,โ€ he added.

Louis stepped forward, calm but firm. โ€œWe saved her, brother. You were losing control.โ€

I nodded. โ€œThatโ€™s good.โ€

And thenโ€“finallyโ€“he nodded.

Then, quietly, he said, โ€œI ran until my legs gave out. Then I shifted. Then I ran some more.โ€

Then quietly, I said, โ€œYouโ€™re not a monster, Lennox. Youโ€™re a mate whoโ€™s hurting.โ€ His breathing slowed slightly. His shoulders slumped, just a bit.

Slowly, he turned around, and this time there was no longer fury in his eyesโ€“I saw something else. Pain. Shame.

He didnโ€™t answer right away. Instead, he walked to the bathroom, splashed cold water on his face from the sink, and stared at his reflection like he didnโ€™t recognize himself.

โ€œI wanted to worship her,โ€ he murmured. โ€œBut I nearlyโ€“fuck. I nearly ruined everything.โ€

A silence settled between us again.

The door creaked open, and Lennox stepped inside, drenched in sweat, his chest bare, his breathing low and steady like someone whoโ€™d been to hell and back and just barely made it out.

As I turned to leave, he called after me.

Lennox shut his eyes, breathing heavily, then nodded.

Louis got up to his feet. โ€œItโ€™s lateโ€ฆ see you tomorrow.โ€

I stood slowly. โ€œYou okay?โ€

โ€œNO!โ€ he bellowed, lunging forward as if he could tear through space to follow her. But it was too lateโ€“she was gone.

The stars shifted in the sky, and eventually I dozed offโ€“only to jolt awake when I felt it.

I sighed and sat on the bed. A moment of silence hung in the air before Louis spoke.

โ€œGoodโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll speak to Lennox about it. I believe he will agree.โ€

He closed his eyes for a moment. Then opened them again.

Louis walked over, kneeling beside him. He placed a hand on Lennoxโ€™s back. โ€œSheโ€™ll come back,โ€ he said softly. โ€œBut only if she knows sheโ€™s safe with us. You need to get yourself in check.โ€

โ€œTomorrow morning then.โ€

His head lifted. โ€œYouโ€™re serious?โ€

He looked up at me, eyes still glowing, but wet with unshed tears.

Empty.

But we hadnโ€™t.

โ€œLevi.โ€

Louis and I exchanged worried gazes as we watched him, waiting for his next line of action. But then I noddedโ€“his onceโ€“trembling body was no longer trembling. It looked relaxed.

His fists slammed into the wall. His chest heaved, muscles bulging, veins rising under his skin as he snarled like a wild beast cornered and wounded.

โ€œSheโ€™s not just yours,โ€ I had touched her like, stepping between him and Louis. โ€œSheโ€™s ours. And if that while you werenโ€™t yourself, do you think she would have forgiven you? You could have hurt her.โ€

I paused.

โ€œAlright,โ€ he said. โ€œThatโ€™s fair.โ€

Lennoxโ€™s head dropped forward, sweat dripping from his hairline.

I nodded and watched him leave.

I nodded slowly, understanding all too well. โ€œThatโ€™s the mate bond, Lennox. Itโ€™s driving us. But if we give in when weโ€™re not in controlโ€ฆ weโ€™ll destroy her. And ourselves.โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ he said. โ€œYou two stopped me. Thatโ€™s the difference.โ€

Minutes turned into an hour. Then two.

โ€œGood,โ€ Louis muttered. โ€œHe needs to run.โ€

Louis ran a hand over his face, finally meeting my gaze.

โ€œI have to talk to her.โ€

โ€œHeading toward the northern woods,โ€ I replied. โ€œHeโ€™s shifting. I can feel it.โ€

Eventually, I stood and made my way to Lennoxโ€™s room.

Lennox dropped to his knees beside the shattered bed, his fists clenched against the broken frame.

Especially for Alphas like us. Born to claim. Built to dominate. Designed to mark, take, and make her ours.

I gave him a light pat on the back and stood. โ€œGood. Get some rest, brother.โ€

I sat down beside him.

โ€œYou have to,โ€ I said, placing a hand on his shoulder. โ€œBecause if you donโ€™tโ€ฆ sheโ€™ll never trust you again.โ€

To have our mate this close

โ€œLennox-โ€ I reached out, cautiously.

โ€œI need her, Louisโ€ฆ I need her more than I need air.โ€

And waited.

A long silence passed between us, broken only by the wind rustling outside the cracked window.

โ€œThanks. For stopping me. For not letting me become a monster.โ€

โ€œNot tonight,โ€ I warned. โ€œLet her rest. She should be asleep by now.โ€

"Find balance, this desire will destroy us." "We all do," I said. "But if we do find balance..."

I didnโ€™t say anything at first.

He turned and walked toward the door, his body trembling from the aftermathโ€“the shame.

โ€œShe wanted me!โ€ he snarled, his voice feral and guttural. โ€œI could smell it. I could feel it. She is mineโ€“mine!โ€

โ€œI-โ€ His voice cracked. โ€œI donโ€™t know if I can.โ€

โ€œThis bondโ€ฆ itโ€™s messing with us. I canโ€™t even think straight when sheโ€™s near.โ€

Then he walked past me and sat heavily on the couch. He rubbed his face with his hands and groaned.

โ€œI saw her,โ€ he added, voice quiet. โ€œIn my head. Over and over. The way she looked at me before she vanished. She was scared, Levi. Of me.โ€

My wolf let out a disapproving growl inside me, but I ignored him and nodded in agreement.

โ€œNo,โ€ I said firmly. โ€œNot like this. Youโ€™ll scare her even more. Go cool off. Shift. Run. Scream into the forest. Just donโ€™t communicate with her until youโ€™ve locked your wolf back down.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s why Louis and I talked,โ€ I said. โ€œWeโ€™re going to set boundaries. No more kisses. No serious physical contact until sheโ€™s sure she wants it.โ€

I nodded. โ€œDead serious. Until sheโ€™s ready, we donโ€™t push. And if she is ready, then we still make sure we are too. We wonโ€™t hurt her. Not even by accident.โ€

Maybe to be close. Maybe to make sure he came back. Maybe because I needed to see with my own eyes that he was still Lennox and not the creature that had tried to take Olivia in a haze of wild, uncontrolled desire.

I waited.

Lennox. Powerful, heavy presence.

After Louis left, I remained seated on the edge of the bed, staring at the chaos left behind. Oliviaโ€™s scent lingering in the air made my wolf restless. Hungry. But I forced him back, swallowing the burn of desire in my throat. I couldnโ€™t risk losing control, not like Lennox had.

Lennoxโ€™s jaw tightened. His nostrils flared. He looked like he wanted to kill me. I thought he would attack me, but surprisingly he didnโ€™t. Instead, he turned and violently kicked a stool aside, facing the wall.

โ€œDamn it! What have I done?โ€ he murmured regretfully, his eyes filled with guilt. Lennox winced like the words physically hurt.

I extended my senses, searching for the flicker of his presence.

Leviโ€™s POV

So I walked in.

We couldnโ€™t.

โ€œWhereโ€™s Lennox now?โ€ Louis asked.

Louis looked worried too. He understood what I meant.

He paused when he saw me.

I didnโ€™t know why exactly.

โ€œShe should be back in the Nightshade Pack,โ€ Louis replied. โ€œI can feel her aura. Sheโ€™s scared. Still aroused, but scared.โ€

โ€œWe should come to a decisiรณn,โ€ Louis said out loud, and I moved my attention toward him.

He turned back around, his eyes no longer glowing but raw with emotion.

โ€œDONโ€™T!โ€ he snapped, spinning toward me, his eyes glowing a bright, deadly green, โ€œYou took her from me!โ€

The moment Olivia disappeared into the air, Lennox released a growl so loud, it shook the walls.

I sat down on the small couch near the window and leaned back, resting my head against the frame. I stared out at the trees, listening for the faintest echo of paws against soil.

He exhaled long and deep, like the weight had finally started to lift.

I stared at the cracked bed, the sheets tangled with Oliviaโ€™s scent, the wild energy still lingering in the air.

โ€œWhere is she now?โ€

And still hold ourselves back.

โ€œI figured youโ€™d be here,โ€ he said, his voice rough, but calm.

โ€œI didnโ€™t mean to hurt her,โ€ he whispered hoarsely. โ€œI justโ€ฆ I couldnโ€™t stop. The scent of her, the sound of her voice, her tasteโ€“Goddess, Levi, Iโ€™m losing it. Every day, it gets harder.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know,โ€ I admitted. โ€œTonight it was Lennoxโ€ฆ next time it might be me. Or you, Louis.โ€

โ€œYou didnโ€™t hurt her,โ€ I reminded him. โ€œYou stopped. And that counts for something."

Lennox stared at the wall, his jaw clenched.

Louis looked at me, his face unreadable. โ€œYou think heโ€™ll be okay?โ€
