278 Where Were You Last Night
I opened my mouth to explain, but his furious eyes scanned me from head to toe.
I instinctively reached up, covering my neck.
โCalvinโwhat did the letter say?โ I asked again, terrified, my heart racing.
Just then, a knock landed on the door.
But then I looked back at Calvinโฆ and what I saw surprised me.
His words struck like a blow to the gut.
Oliviaโs POV
-Lennox.
โDonโt,โ he said sharply, blocking my hand. His tone was firm, protective. โSomething harmful could be inside.โ
I stood, my heart racing. โWhat did it say?โ
My mind screamed yes. I knew it. I lived it. I survived it.
Tears filled my eyes. My knees felt weak.
โThose menโthose animalsโtheyโre the ones you canโt stay away from?โ he roared. โDo you even know what they did to you?!โ
I scoffed and shook my head. โIt wasnโt. In fact, it was the best dream of my life,โ I admitted with a blush.
Nestled beside it was a small folded note.
It was beautiful. The kind of jewelry Iโd always admired in shop windows but never bought for myself. Simple, elegant, with a tiny sapphire set in the center.
โโฆYou let them touch you?โ
โI wanted to kill them the moment I read that report,โ he muttered, pacing furiously. โAnd those are the men youโre letting near you again?โ
There was no hate in his eyes.
I turned to Nora and Lolita. โCome with me. I want to introduce you to my brother.โ
His expression changed.
This morning, I was dressed casually in jeans and a simple top. I wasnโt Luna anymoreโno need for formal gowns.
โAre thoseโฆ hickeys?โ
โBreakfast is served, my lady,โ a maid called from outside.
I couldnโt breathe.
โDo you know what else I learned?โ he spat. โThat they made your best friend their concubine just days after getting married to you. That on your wedding nightโโ he broke off, rage choking him.
They looked at each other nervously.
I staggered back at the weight of his anger.
I couldnโt speak.
I looked up, my lips parting. โCalvinโฆ Iโm sorry. I was going to tell youโโ
I flinched, my breath catching in my throat. My hands trembled as I slowly stepped toward the shattered box. The locket had rolled across the floor, but my eyes werenโt on itโthey were on the letter. It had fallen open.
I froze.
I exhaled, relieved. โThank you, brother,โ I said gently, taking my seat at the table. Calvin picked it up and began to read.
โDid you let them touch you?โ he asked slowly, angrily, like the words themselves were poison in his mouth.
I gasped.
What was that look?
Inside was a delicate velvet pouch. He pulled it open and revealedโ
How did he know that?
Iโd buried that night so deep, I thought it would never surface again.
Just a strange stillness.
โThose men rejected you. Abused you. Treated you like trash. And not just once,โ he continued, his voice trembling with rage. โYou nearly died because of them!โ
After a few seconds, he gave a small nod and returned to eating without a word.
โLast nightโฆ where were you?โ Calvin asked, his voice cold.
He didnโt answer right away. He just stood there, seething.
My blood froze.
โThis just arrived for Lady Olivia,โ he said, stepping forward.
There was no need to hide it anymore.
And unexpectedly, he hurled the entire box across the room with a growl, the contents scattering across the floor.
I swallowed hard and sighed. โI had a dream.โ
โThey fucked your best friend right in front of you,โ he said, his voice low and trembling with fury. โAnd you collapsed.โ
We made our way to the dining room, and there sat Calvin, already at the table, halfway through his meal.
The moment we stepped in, his eyes shifted toward usโฆ then landed on Nora.
For a moment, he said nothing. He just kept staring at Nora, not even blinking. I turned slightly to glance at her and noticed her fingers were clenched nervously at her side, her eyes lowered to the ground. She was panicking.
โAre you okay?โ Nora asked, her curious gaze meeting mine through the mirror as she helped me tie my hair into a bun.
But he cut me off, his voice rising like thunder.
Calvin took the box from the guard, setting it gently on the table. He inspected it carefully, then unwrapped it.
Nora and Lolita bowed politely before turning to walk away. But as they did, I noticed
Calvinโs gaze followed themโฆ no, not both of them. Just Nora.
I blinked at him, startled, but slowly lowered my hand. โOkayโฆโ
I flinched. โCalvin!โ
The silence gave him his answer.
I furrowed my brow. He was staring again, his expression unreadable.
Calvin knew.
I picked it up, unfolding the note with shaky fingers.
At first, his expression remained calm.
But before I could touch it, Calvin shot to his feet.
And then they locked on my neck.
Calvinโs entire face changedโhis anger melting into heartbreak. When he spoke again, his voice was full of disappointment.
I swallowed hard, my eyes dropping to the floor. My heart pounded in my chest.
I couldnโt lie.
I smiled and shook my head. โDonโt worry. Just be yourselves.โ
Darkened.
A silver locket.
My wolf growled approvingly in my head, and I rolled my eyes at her. Horny bitch, I muttered silently.
Before I could figure it out, a guard entered the dining room, holding a medium-sized, neatly wrapped box in his hands.
Lolita, who was straightening the sheets on my bed, looked up. โA nightmare?โ
โYou think heโll accept us?โ Lolita asked, acting nervous.
I stood halfway, reaching out. โFor me?โ
My eyes scanned to the bottom.
I noticed it instantlyโthe way his gaze lingered on her. It was intense and unreadable.
He looked away for a second, his fists clenching, trying to hold himself back. Then he looked at me again.
I frowned. What is there to be happy about? It was just a dreamโฆ but Goddess, I wished it was real.
โI found out everything, Olivia!โ he snarled, his eyes blazing with rage. โMy investigators finally gave me the full report.โ
Nora smirked and winked at me through the mirror. โSo why donโt you look happy?โ
His fists clenched at his sides, his breathing heavy.
โIโm sorry about last night. My wolf got out of controlโฆ it wonโt happen again. I swear, I never meant to scare you. I justโbeing near you drives me insane, Olivia: I will get better. Iโll prove myself to you, no matter how long it takes. I love you.โ
But then his eyes darkened.
I cleared my throat. โBrother,โ I said, walking up to him, โthese are my friends, Nora and Lolita. Iโd like them to stay here with me.โ
โWhat the hell is wrong with you?!โ
He finally looked at me, and the anger in his eyes
made me shiver.
His jaw tightened.
โAnswer me, Olivia!โ he growled, slamming his palm against the table so hard the plates rattled.
