โHeading out to take care of something. Wonโt be around for a bit.โ
โI should have raised you myselfโฆ see what youโve become.โ She sighed, disappointment dripping in her tone.
โOliviaโฆ I onlyโโ
โI heard they are your second chance mates,โ she said, but I didnโt respond. I just looked away.
Her mouth opened again, but I didnโt let her speak. I stepped closer to the bed, my fists curling at my sides.
โI know what the triplets did to me is unforgivableโโ
โFor the past few weeks, Iโve had people tell me who I should be, what I should feel, and how I should live. And Iโm done. Iโm done trying to fit into boxes that were never meant for me. I wonโt reject them just because you say so. I wonโt turn my back on what I know is the truth just to make you proud of me.โ
โOliviaโฆ whatโs wrong?โ he murmured into my hair.
Motherโs brow furrowed as she gave me that look of disappointment, and despite how much it hurt, I didnโt care.
Her eyes softened a little.
โIโm glad you knowโโ Calvin cut in sharply.
โI have told you the truth. Itโs left for you to believe it or notโฆโ
My eyes narrowed. โWhatโs that supposed to mean?โ
Those words from her hurtโฆ it hurt so much, but I swallowed back my pain. If I could endure all the terrible things the men I loved more than life did to me, then I can endure the hurtful words of a woman I barely met twenty-four hours ago.
โFineโฆ tell us the truth,โ she hissed, the skepticism dripping from her tone. I could hear it clearly, but I chose to ignore it.
My voice wavered slightly as I finished, but I forced myself to meet both their gazes.
I didnโt answer with words. My gaze stayed locked on his, my breathing quickening. Slowly, my hands slid down from his chest, my fingertips tracing the line of his abdomen before stopping at his waistband.
โYes,โ I said firmly, my voice leaving no room for doubt. โBecause I know them. I grew up with them. Those men loved me more than anybody in the world. They didnโt just care for meโthey worshipped me.โ
Louisโs voice followed, warmer but distracted.
โI canโt believe youโre this naรฏve,โ he muttered. โDefending the very people whoโโ
I frowned, my chest tightening with a strange mix of frustration and disappointment. I didnโt even give myself time to think before I teleported againโthis time into Leviโs room.
โIโm not here to be fixed or reshaped into someone youโll approve of,โ I said coldly. โI am who I am. Whether you accept that or not is up to you.โ
โOlivia, I didnโt mean it like thatโโ
โWellโฆ Iโm sorry I grew up to be a disappointment to you,โ I said, my tone sharp and loud.
โI truly didnโt meanโโ
Calvinโs brows shot up, disbelief flashing in his eyes. โSo Iโm supposed to believe that?โ
I didnโt answer. Instead, I buried my face deeper into his chest, breathing in his scent like I needed it to stay standing. My fingers clutched the fabric of his shirt, refusing to let go.
He didnโt push me to speak. He just held me, one hand rubbing slow, steady circles over my back. The silence between us was heavy, but his warmth was steady โ comforting me in a way nothing else could.
I moved my gaze in her direction and held it. For a moment, I was disappointed in her. I thought having her here was supposed to be of great help to meโthat she would understand me and be on my sideโbut from the look of things, it seems I might be wrong.
Slowly, I got up on my feet, my hardened gaze locked on her.
Then Leviโs voice came, calm and curious.
โIโm in a bad mood,โ I finally whispered, my voice low and strained. โI needโฆ something to make me forget. To make this feeling go away.โ
Her lips trembled faintly.
โShut up, please,โ I snapped, my voice full of spite.
โMake love to me.โ
And before she could say another word, before her voice could soften enough to make me falter, I teleported away.
โI wonโt!โ I cut in. โIโm never doing that,โ I said firmly.
Calvinโs mouth tightened, a humorless smirk playing on his lips.
His jaw flexed, but I didnโt look away.
โBravo,โ he drawled. โTrulyโฆ bravo.โ
I didnโt even hesitate. I teleported straight into the study, my heart pulling me toward him like it had a mind of its own.
His strong arms closed around me without question, holding me tightly.
The moment I appeared, Levi turned toward me in surpriseโbut before he could say a single word, I closed the distance and threw myself into his arms.
I drew in a slow breath, my chest tight with frustration.
Exhaling hard, I opened my mind link to all three of them.
โWhen they were charmed,โ I said steadily, โthey werenโt Alphas yet. They were still heirs. Still vulnerable in ways you clearly donโt understand.โ
The room around me vanished in a blink, replaced by the familiar walls of Lennoxโs room.
โOliviaโฆโ he murmured, but I only stepped closer, my voice dropping to a plea.
โI donโt know what silly moves the Moon Goddess is playing at, but you are going to reject themโฆโ
But it was empty.
Motherโs eyes narrowed, that look of annoyance crossing her face again, but I ignored it.
โIโm in the study room. Is there something wrong?โ
โThey were being controlled by a spelled letterโฆ If you think Iโm lying, then do the findings yourself.โ
I turned my glare to him. โThen he should act like one,โ I hissed back.
โYou only want me to be the daughter you imagined in your head,โ I interrupted bitterly. โBut thatโs not me. And if that makes me a disappointment in your eyes, then so be it.โ
Mother scoffed and gave a small shrug.
โIt means,โ he said, leaning forward slightly, โhow can you be so foolish, dear little sister? So silly as to actually believe them? They are Alphas. Charms and spells donโt work on Alphas. Thatโs basic knowledge.โ
Gritting my teeth, I teleported once more, appearing in Louisโs room. But it was empty.
His warmth enveloped me instantly, his scent wrapping around me like the only safe place in the world.
My chest ached. My thoughts felt too loud, too sharp. I just wanted them to stop. I wanted everything to stop, just for a while.
โI know what real love looks like, and I know what it feels like when itโs taken away. The men I knewโthe men who held me like I was the only thing that matteredโwould never hurt me like that. Not in their right minds. So yes, I believe themโฆ. Anitaโs father twisted them into what youโve heard about. But it wasnโt them.โ
Also empty.
Oliviaโs POV
โAt an Alpha meeting.โ
His arms tightened around me, his eyes searching mine. โHow?โ he asked softly.
His words hit like a slap, but I refused to flinch. I forced myself to meet his gaze head-on.
Left to me alone, I saw no need to give them any explanation. Theyโd already made up their minds. But thisโฆ this wasnโt just about me. For the sake of the tripletsโfor the truthโI had to speak.
โWhere are you?โ
โOh, but you did,โ I cut in, my voice rising just slightly. โYou meant every word. You think Iโm reckless, you think Iโm naรฏve, you think Iโm a fool for holding on to the people I love. You donโt understand me, and you donโt even want to try. Youโve already made up your mind about me before you even got to know me.โ
Motherโs expression tightened, but I pressed on, my voice gaining strength.
She blinked, her lips parting like she hadnโt expected me to respond that way.
There was a moment of silence as my words hung in the air. Then, suddenly, Calvin began to clap slowly, mockingly.
โI donโt believe it,โ Mother cut in.
โOliviaโฆ watch your tongue,โ Mother warned, her tone hardening. โThatโs your elder brother. Ten years older than you and the Alpha of this pack.โ
Lennoxโs deep voice came through first, filled with concern.
โEnough,โ I cut in sharply, my voice trembling but loud. โYou think Iโm naรฏve because I refuse to hate the people I know better than anyone? Fine. But donโt stand there pretending you know my truth better than I do. You werenโt there.โ
โThe tripletsโ actionsโฆ the things they didโฆ were because they were under a spell.โ
