Listen to this chapter:

โ€œHeading out to take care of something. Wonโ€™t be around for a bit.โ€

โ€œI should have raised you myselfโ€ฆ see what youโ€™ve become.โ€ She sighed, disappointment dripping in her tone.

โ€œOliviaโ€ฆ I onlyโ€”โ€

โ€œI heard they are your second chance mates,โ€ she said, but I didnโ€™t respond. I just looked away.

Her mouth opened again, but I didnโ€™t let her speak. I stepped closer to the bed, my fists curling at my sides.

โ€œI know what the triplets did to me is unforgivableโ€”โ€

โ€œFor the past few weeks, Iโ€™ve had people tell me who I should be, what I should feel, and how I should live. And Iโ€™m done. Iโ€™m done trying to fit into boxes that were never meant for me. I wonโ€™t reject them just because you say so. I wonโ€™t turn my back on what I know is the truth just to make you proud of me.โ€

โ€œOliviaโ€ฆ whatโ€™s wrong?โ€ he murmured into my hair.

Motherโ€™s brow furrowed as she gave me that look of disappointment, and despite how much it hurt, I didnโ€™t care.

Her eyes softened a little.

โ€œIโ€™m glad you knowโ€”โ€ Calvin cut in sharply.

โ€œI have told you the truth. Itโ€™s left for you to believe it or notโ€ฆโ€

My eyes narrowed. โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean?โ€

Those words from her hurtโ€ฆ it hurt so much, but I swallowed back my pain. If I could endure all the terrible things the men I loved more than life did to me, then I can endure the hurtful words of a woman I barely met twenty-four hours ago.

โ€œFineโ€ฆ tell us the truth,โ€ she hissed, the skepticism dripping from her tone. I could hear it clearly, but I chose to ignore it.

My voice wavered slightly as I finished, but I forced myself to meet both their gazes.

I didnโ€™t answer with words. My gaze stayed locked on his, my breathing quickening. Slowly, my hands slid down from his chest, my fingertips tracing the line of his abdomen before stopping at his waistband.

โ€œYes,โ€ I said firmly, my voice leaving no room for doubt. โ€œBecause I know them. I grew up with them. Those men loved me more than anybody in the world. They didnโ€™t just care for meโ€”they worshipped me.โ€

Louisโ€™s voice followed, warmer but distracted.

โ€œI canโ€™t believe youโ€™re this naรฏve,โ€ he muttered. โ€œDefending the very people whoโ€”โ€

I frowned, my chest tightening with a strange mix of frustration and disappointment. I didnโ€™t even give myself time to think before I teleported againโ€“this time into Leviโ€™s room.

โ€œIโ€™m not here to be fixed or reshaped into someone youโ€™ll approve of,โ€ I said coldly. โ€œI am who I am. Whether you accept that or not is up to you.โ€

โ€œOlivia, I didnโ€™t mean it like thatโ€”โ€

โ€œWellโ€ฆ Iโ€™m sorry I grew up to be a disappointment to you,โ€ I said, my tone sharp and loud.

โ€œI truly didnโ€™t meanโ€”โ€

Calvinโ€™s brows shot up, disbelief flashing in his eyes. โ€œSo Iโ€™m supposed to believe that?โ€

I didnโ€™t answer. Instead, I buried my face deeper into his chest, breathing in his scent like I needed it to stay standing. My fingers clutched the fabric of his shirt, refusing to let go.

He didnโ€™t push me to speak. He just held me, one hand rubbing slow, steady circles over my back. The silence between us was heavy, but his warmth was steady โ€” comforting me in a way nothing else could.

I moved my gaze in her direction and held it. For a moment, I was disappointed in her. I thought having her here was supposed to be of great help to meโ€”that she would understand me and be on my sideโ€“but from the look of things, it seems I might be wrong.

Slowly, I got up on my feet, my hardened gaze locked on her.

Then Leviโ€™s voice came, calm and curious.

โ€œIโ€™m in a bad mood,โ€ I finally whispered, my voice low and strained. โ€œI needโ€ฆ something to make me forget. To make this feeling go away.โ€

Her lips trembled faintly.

โ€œShut up, please,โ€ I snapped, my voice full of spite.

โ€œMake love to me.โ€

And before she could say another word, before her voice could soften enough to make me falter, I teleported away.

โ€œI wonโ€™t!โ€ I cut in. โ€œIโ€™m never doing that,โ€ I said firmly.

Calvinโ€™s mouth tightened, a humorless smirk playing on his lips.

His jaw flexed, but I didnโ€™t look away.

โ€œBravo,โ€ he drawled. โ€œTrulyโ€ฆ bravo.โ€

I didnโ€™t even hesitate. I teleported straight into the study, my heart pulling me toward him like it had a mind of its own.

His strong arms closed around me without question, holding me tightly.

The moment I appeared, Levi turned toward me in surpriseโ€“but before he could say a single word, I closed the distance and threw myself into his arms.

I drew in a slow breath, my chest tight with frustration.

Exhaling hard, I opened my mind link to all three of them.

โ€œWhen they were charmed,โ€ I said steadily, โ€œthey werenโ€™t Alphas yet. They were still heirs. Still vulnerable in ways you clearly donโ€™t understand.โ€

The room around me vanished in a blink, replaced by the familiar walls of Lennoxโ€™s room.

โ€œOliviaโ€ฆโ€ he murmured, but I only stepped closer, my voice dropping to a plea.

โ€œI donโ€™t know what silly moves the Moon Goddess is playing at, but you are going to reject themโ€ฆโ€

But it was empty.

Motherโ€™s eyes narrowed, that look of annoyance crossing her face again, but I ignored it.

โ€œIโ€™m in the study room. Is there something wrong?โ€

โ€œThey were being controlled by a spelled letterโ€ฆ If you think Iโ€™m lying, then do the findings yourself.โ€

I turned my glare to him. โ€œThen he should act like one,โ€ I hissed back.

โ€œYou only want me to be the daughter you imagined in your head,โ€ I interrupted bitterly. โ€œBut thatโ€™s not me. And if that makes me a disappointment in your eyes, then so be it.โ€

Mother scoffed and gave a small shrug.

โ€œIt means,โ€ he said, leaning forward slightly, โ€œhow can you be so foolish, dear little sister? So silly as to actually believe them? They are Alphas. Charms and spells donโ€™t work on Alphas. Thatโ€™s basic knowledge.โ€

Gritting my teeth, I teleported once more, appearing in Louisโ€™s room. But it was empty.

His warmth enveloped me instantly, his scent wrapping around me like the only safe place in the world.

My chest ached. My thoughts felt too loud, too sharp. I just wanted them to stop. I wanted everything to stop, just for a while.

โ€œI know what real love looks like, and I know what it feels like when itโ€™s taken away. The men I knewโ€“the men who held me like I was the only thing that matteredโ€“would never hurt me like that. Not in their right minds. So yes, I believe themโ€ฆ. Anitaโ€™s father twisted them into what youโ€™ve heard about. But it wasnโ€™t them.โ€

Also empty.

Oliviaโ€™s POV

โ€œAt an Alpha meeting.โ€

His arms tightened around me, his eyes searching mine. โ€œHow?โ€ he asked softly.

His words hit like a slap, but I refused to flinch. I forced myself to meet his gaze head-on.

Left to me alone, I saw no need to give them any explanation. Theyโ€™d already made up their minds. But thisโ€ฆ this wasnโ€™t just about me. For the sake of the tripletsโ€“for the truthโ€“I had to speak.

โ€œWhere are you?โ€

โ€œOh, but you did,โ€ I cut in, my voice rising just slightly. โ€œYou meant every word. You think Iโ€™m reckless, you think Iโ€™m naรฏve, you think Iโ€™m a fool for holding on to the people I love. You donโ€™t understand me, and you donโ€™t even want to try. Youโ€™ve already made up your mind about me before you even got to know me.โ€

Motherโ€™s expression tightened, but I pressed on, my voice gaining strength.

She blinked, her lips parting like she hadnโ€™t expected me to respond that way.

There was a moment of silence as my words hung in the air. Then, suddenly, Calvin began to clap slowly, mockingly.

โ€œI donโ€™t believe it,โ€ Mother cut in.

โ€œOliviaโ€ฆ watch your tongue,โ€ Mother warned, her tone hardening. โ€œThatโ€™s your elder brother. Ten years older than you and the Alpha of this pack.โ€

Lennoxโ€™s deep voice came through first, filled with concern.

โ€œEnough,โ€ I cut in sharply, my voice trembling but loud. โ€œYou think Iโ€™m naรฏve because I refuse to hate the people I know better than anyone? Fine. But donโ€™t stand there pretending you know my truth better than I do. You werenโ€™t there.โ€

โ€œThe tripletsโ€˜ actionsโ€ฆ the things they didโ€ฆ were because they were under a spell.โ€
