318 Back Home

He tilted his head, studying me. โ€œA while ago.โ€

The hallway crumbled, the walls broke apart into dust, and I felt myself fallingโ€”down, down, down into a pit of cold darkness.

After what Levi and Louis said, I decided it was best to just go to sleep.

โ€œWhere the hell are you coming from?โ€ I snapped, my voice sharp and shaking.

โ€œLennox!โ€

Lennox was sitting in the armchair across the room, one ankle hooked over the other, a glass in his hand, watching me.

Lennox stood slowly, setting the glass down on the side table. โ€œYes. Iโ€™m sorry I didnโ€™t come home. I was going to, but things got complicated. I can explainโ€”โ€

I walked toward the sound. The closer I got, the heavier the air felt, thick with something sourโ€”like betrayal.

Because part of me still felt like I was dreaming.

The bed shifted behind me. I felt a soft movementโ€”Louis sitting up slightly.

I turned a cornerโ€ฆ and there he was.

Lennox stayed seated, watching me like he knew this was coming.

Oliviaโ€™s POV

Louis leaned down and pressed a kiss to my forehead. โ€œWeโ€™ll stay right here,โ€ he whispered.

My wolf kept urging me to apologize to make things right with them, but I refused. They were wrong. And if I apologized now, it would only make them think they were right.

โ€œOh, really?โ€ I cut him off, my laugh bitter. โ€œThe Alpha meeting took all night?โ€

Then he smirked.

318 Back Home

Louis was sitting up now, staring at me with a guilty expression. Levi lay on his side, his brows drawn, his eyes searching mine.

Levi moved closer too, wrapping an arm around my waist, and I drew in a deep breath.

And he wasnโ€™t pulling away.

Morning sunrise from the window spilled across the room, too bright. My eyes dartedโ€”and froze.

But I hated more that they didnโ€™t even try to understand what I was feeling.

Why was it so hard for them to see that this wasnโ€™t just about Lennox not being here? Why couldnโ€™t they understand that I was scared and tired, and maybe I just needed them to be patient?

But he didnโ€™t hear me.

I bolted upright with a choked gasp, my body slick with sweat, heart pounding like Iโ€™d just run a marathon.

I threw the blanket off and stormed out of the bed, ignoring Leviโ€™s hand that reached for me and Louisโ€™s voice calling my name. My bare feet hit the cold floor as I marched straight toward him.

His head snapped toward me suddenly, but his expression wasnโ€™t shocked or guilty. He justโ€ฆ stared, like he didnโ€™t even recognize me.

I didnโ€™t even think. I just moved.

โ€œNo,โ€ I whispered, frozen in place. โ€œLennox, what are you doing?โ€

So I just let it beโ€ฆ and closed my eyes, hoping sleep would take me before my thoughts did.

And another partโ€ฆ wanted to slap the juice right out of his hand.

I stepped forward, shouting now, screaming his name.

In my dream, I was standing in the hallway of the pack house. I could hear muffled laughter echoing through the walls, a womanโ€™s laugh.

He blinked, caught off guard by the fire in my tone. โ€œThe Alpha meetingโ€”โ€

318 Back Home

He wasnโ€™t fighting it.

I hated this tension.

I lay still, eyes closed, pretending to be asleep. But I wasnโ€™t. My mind was still full of Lennox, of tonight, of how Louis and Levi had made me feel.

I gasped.

I turned my face further into the pillow, swallowing hard. His words hurt. How can they ever think they were never enough for me?

His eyes were confused, his expression shocked.

โ€œMorning,โ€ he said, calm. Itโ€™s almost like heโ€™d been here the whole time.

Lennox.

Pinned against a wall, his hands tangled in the hair of a dark-haired woman. She was pressed up against him, her mouth on his, her body flushed against his in a way that made my stomach twist.

Slap.

I couldnโ€™t speak, couldnโ€™t breathe.

โ€œI didnโ€™t mean to make you feel like you werenโ€™t enough,โ€ I whispered, my voice cracking a little. โ€œIโ€™m justโ€ฆ scared that Lennox hasnโ€™t arrived yet.โ€

โ€œShe was here,โ€ he said. โ€œAnd you werenโ€™t.โ€

โ€œAnd weโ€™re sorry,โ€ Levi added, โ€œfor assuming the worst. You donโ€™t have to explain anything. Just go to bedโ€ฆ we will talk about it tomorrow, okay.โ€

I nodded, blinking fast.

But peace didnโ€™t last long because I had a dream.

I blinked rapidly.

For a second, I couldnโ€™t move. I couldnโ€™t even tell if Iโ€™d really woken up. The dream felt too close. His face was too sharp in the morning light, and yetโ€ฆ wrong.

So I said nothing.

And then everything shattered.

That same arrogant, knowing smirk he used to wear before everything went to hell.

I pulled the blanket up to my chin and lay on my stomach, pretending to get comfortable even though my heart was still racing. The room felt too quiet, too heavy. I could feel Louis shifting beside me, and Levi exhaled a long, tired breathโ€”but none of us said another word.

My hand met his cheek before I could stop myself, and the sound echoed through the room.

And just like that, something in me eased. I still didnโ€™t have all the answers, I was still worried, but I pushed it away and forced myself to sleep.

I stayed quiet.

He sighed. โ€œWe shouldnโ€™t have jumped to conclusions. Itโ€™s justโ€ฆ when you act like that, it gets to us. Weโ€™re trying to be here for you, but sometimes it feels like weโ€™re not enough.โ€

I turned slowly to look at them.

โ€œOliviaโ€ฆโ€ His voice was low, hesitant. โ€œIโ€™m sorry.โ€

He groaned into her mouth, one hand gripping her waist, the other sliding under her shirt.

Louis reached out and brushed my hair back from my face. โ€œWe know. But he is fine.โ€ His face turned slightly from the impact, his jaw tightening, but he didnโ€™t say a word. He just looked at me.

My mouth was dry. โ€œWhen did you get back?โ€

Then Leviโ€™s voice joined, softer than Iโ€™d ever heard it. โ€œWe know Lennox has a strong pull on you. Butโ€ฆ weโ€™re here too, Olivia. Weโ€™ve always been. And tonight, we just wanted to be what you needed.โ€
