Chapter 127
Olivia felt terrible, consumed by rage. โYou think thirty thousand dollars is pocket change?โ she shouted into the phone. โWhere am I supposed to get three hundred thousand dollars?โ Ten thousand was already a significant sum. Their transaction was supposed to be final, with no further obligations. Now, this person was harassing her again. Already unwell, this threat prevented any peaceful rest.
โI donโt care; I want three hundred thousand dollars,โ the voice insisted. โIf you donโt give it to me, Iโll go ask Stephanie for it. Iโm sure sheโd be happy to pay.โ
Olivia fell silent, her chest tightening at the mention of Stephanie.
โMiss Hart, I wouldnโt be doing this if I werenโt desperate. I have no choice.โ
โYou have no choice? What about me? Iโm sick, I have three types of cancer. Iโm dying, and now I have to deal with your threats?โ Olivia yelled. She had returned from abroad hoping for peaceful recovery under her family's care, near Chris. But this call shattered her peace. โIโm already suffering from my illness, and now youโre threatening me on top of that.โ
Her voice softened. Her pitiful tone reached the blackmailer. The line fell quiet.
โIโm about to die,โ Olivia continued. โDo you think I still care about my past mistakes?โ Her words conveyed pity and resignation, emotions that might have evoked sympathy in others, but not in this man.
After a pause, he replied, โIn that case, Miss Hart, why donโt you use whatโs left of your life to get me that three hundred thousand dollars?โ
Oliviaโs pupils constricted in shock. She couldn't believe his cold-bloodedness.
โI really need the money!โ he said coldly, crushing any remaining hope. This tactic had always worked on her family, but now it failed miserably.
Chapter 127 (continued)
โAre you trying to kill me?โ she asked.
โIf you die, the Hart family can still buy you a nice plot.โ They needed money for her medical treatment.
โYouโre a monster!โ Olivia screamed, her voice echoing through the hospital room. Murderous rage consumed her.
Meanwhile, Chris arrived at the hospital. Exiting the elevator, he overheard Catlin on the phone, yelling, โYou want me to sign papers cutting ties? Stephanie, how can you be so cruel?โ
Catlin trembled, fury and disbelief washing over her. She had hoped Stephanieโs threats were empty. But the cold reality struck.
โThe lawyer is on their way to the hospital with the papers,โ Stephanieโs icy voice confirmed, devoid of warmth or affection. Catlin detected no lingering attachment to the Hart family.
Two yearsโฆ Had she, as a mother, ever truly reached Stephanieโs heart? The thought suffocated her.
โWhat do you think you are, cutting ties with us? So, some guys are protecting you now, huh?โ Catlinโs voice dripped with sarcasm.
