Chapter 132

Sebastianโ€™s sharp tongue was almost unbearable. Sheโ€™d verbally sparred with Chris on the call, leaving him speechless. She always had ten retorts ready for every word thrown at her. Chrisโ€™s head throbbed. Sebastian, unrelenting, delivered a final blow: โ€œYou should really see a doctor. Itโ€™s a miracle you can even function with a brain that scrambled.โ€ Before Chris could respond, she hung up.

Chris was on his way to the hospital, the insult about his โ€œscrambled brainโ€ infuriating him. Catlin called, franticโ€”Olivia had snuck out. Chris rubbed his temples, a headache blossoming. Olivia could barely walk, let alone sneak out. Was she trying to kill herself?

โ€œKevin,โ€ he called.

โ€œYes, Mr. Ashford?โ€

โ€œAbout Sebastianโ€ฆ sheโ€ฆโ€ His thoughts were a jumbled mess. The faces of those men flashed in his mind. Which one was her steady boyfriend? Marco, or the man whoโ€™d visited her today? Everything was chaos. The sudden appearance of multiple men around Sebastian had completely disoriented him.

They arrived at the hospital. Chris found Catlin in Oliviaโ€™s room, sobbing uncontrollably.

โ€œYou, in your condition, sneaking out like that? Are you trying to kill yourself?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Mom. I didnโ€™t mean to worry you.โ€

โ€œWhat if something had happened? You can barely walk.โ€

Theyโ€™d found Olivia breathless, sitting on the edge of a flower bed. Olivia looked at Catlin, wanting to speak, but the words wouldn't come.

Sheโ€™d gone to find him, to kill that bastard. But she hadnโ€™t realized how weak sheโ€™d become.

Catlin saw Chris. โ€œChris, talk some sense into her. Tell her to stop this foolishness. I was terrified.โ€ Oliviaโ€™s condition was breaking Catlinโ€™s heart.

Chris nodded. Catlin stood, looking at Olivia. โ€œYou two talk. Iโ€™ll get you some fresh food. This has all gone cold.โ€ The discovery of Oliviaโ€™s absence had sent everyone into a panicked search.

Catlin left, leaving Chris and Olivia alone. Olivia looked at Chris, guilt flooding her eyes. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, I worried you, didnโ€™t I?โ€

Chris pulled up a chair and sat beside the bed, sighing. โ€œWhy did you run off?โ€ he asked. โ€œDonโ€™t you know how worried Mrs. Ashford and everyone else is about you?โ€

Olivia lowered her head, tears streaming down her face. โ€œI justโ€ฆ I canโ€™t stand the smell anymore, Chris. You have no idea how desperate I feel when I smell that disinfectant,โ€ Olivia choked out. โ€œFrom the moment I stepped into this hospital, itโ€™s like Iโ€™ve been cut off from the outside world. Iโ€™m scared, scared Iโ€™ll never feel the sun again. I donโ€™t want to be here. I donโ€™t want toโ€ฆโ€

Only those whoโ€™ve been sick, confined to a hospital for a long time, could truly understand the despair of such a place.
