Chapter 185
Trouble. As in Olivia. Grace had seen through the Hart family years ago. The whole bunch was rotten, and Olivia? Even worse. Too bad their idiot son was still blind to it.
Chris exhaled sharply. โIโm meeting the Lucano heir soon. Donโt worry, the minerals we need arenโt going anywhere.โ
Fred scoffed. โYou finally give a damn? Let me guess, because of her?โ He knew Chris was panicking for Olivia's sake. Just as Chris turned to leave, Fredโs voice dropped to an icy tone. โIf the deal is signed tomorrowโฆ As for Oliviaโฆโ He didnโt finish, but Chris felt the threat. His expression darkened. โLeave her alone.โ
Fred flicked his ashes. โThat depends on you.โ Chris barely made it out of the office. Kevin followed, silent and respectful. The second Chris slid into the car, Kevin handed him a fresh shirtโhis was soaked from a spilled water cup. โYou need to get that cut looked at?โ Kevin asked, glancing at the wound on Chrisโs forehead. Fred hadnโt held back.
Chrisโs voice was cold. โFind out where the Lucano heir is. Now.โ
Hearing that name, Kevin felt a headache coming on. That guy was as impossible to deal with as the man around Stephanie. He hesitated. โActuallyโฆ I just got a call.โ
Chris narrowed his eyes. โWhat call?โ
Kevin hesitated. โThe Lucano familyโs chosen partner might be the Hodge family.โ
Chris stiffened. โThe Hodges? Jackson Hodge?โ
Kevin nodded. โSeems like it.โ The news wasn't fully confirmed, but it was looking that way. Chrisโs jaw clenched. Jackson. That bastard had spent years competing with him, and now this?
Without another word, Chris called Jackson. โHello?โ Chris didnโt bother with pleasantries. โYouโre partnering with the Lucanos?โ
At the Hodge estate, Jackson was still fuming after bringing Lilian home. So when Chris called, he didnโt bother hiding his irritation. โWhat, got a problem?โ Jackson snapped.
Chrisโs tone was sharp. โHowโd you pull it off? Guess I really underestimated you.โ
Jackson laughed dryly. โYou wanted it so bad? Shouldโve made a move yourself. Donโt whine to me just because you lost.โ Chris couldnโt even get a meeting with the Lucano heir, yet he had the nerve to complain? Pathetic. Jackson smirked. โBut hey, let me make it easy for youโyou could pull every trick in the book, and you still wouldnโt land this deal.โ Because Stephanie wouldnโt allow it. Sebastian guarded his sister like a hawk.
Meanwhile, at the Giovanni manor, Stephanieโs pulse jumped when she saw Sebastian pick up his wine glass. Just as he lifted it, she grabbed his wrist. Sebastian frowned. โStefi?โ
โIโll drink for you,โ Stephanie said, reaching for his glass. She wasn't letting him have another drop. Dealing with someone who blacked out every time they drank was beyond frustrating. Heโd gotten drunk before, but he wasnโt this much trouble then. Now? Two times in a row, and both times heโd completely lost control.
