Chapter 187

Chris felt a headache coming on. His father had sent ten men to watch Olivia? โ€œIโ€™ll handle it,โ€ Catlin said, her voice tight with frustration. โ€œChris, I know your family disapproves, but sheโ€™s sick! How can she recover when theyโ€™re treating her like a prisoner?โ€

Chris pinched the bridge of his nose. โ€œI get it.โ€

โ€œShe should leave the hospital. Has Whispering Bay been set up? If so, she should move there to rest.โ€ After the Ashfordsโ€™ actions, Olivia couldn't remain in the hospital.

The mention of Whispering Bay darkened Chrisโ€™s expression. โ€œItโ€™s still being arranged. Tell her to stay calm,โ€ he said before hanging up.

โ€œStill arranging? What do you mean?โ€ Catlinโ€™s unease was palpable.

Chris frowned. โ€œLetโ€™s leave it at that. Iโ€™ll call you later.โ€ He had no answer and hung up abruptly.

The car was eerily quiet. After a moment, his voice dropped to an icy tone. โ€œHead to Whispering Bay.โ€

Kevin Wright, driving, was taken aback. He hesitated. โ€œBut we just learned the Macro family heir is at Butterfly Garden, fishing.โ€ Tracking him had been nearly impossible. Shouldnโ€™t they go there first?

Chrisโ€™s tone darkened. โ€œWhispering Bay. Now.โ€

Kevin didnโ€™t argue. โ€œUnderstood.โ€

They reached an intersection. Without a word, Kevin made a U-turn. Still, he reminded Chris, โ€œTomorrow, theyโ€™re reviewing the contract with Jackson Hodgeโ€™s team.โ€ If everything checked out, the deal would be signed, with no turning back. And Jackson, once controlling the mines, wouldnโ€™t give Chris a share.

Chris remained silent.

His phone buzzed. It was Olivia. He answered, his voice softer. โ€œOlivia.โ€

Oliviaโ€™s voice trembled. โ€œChris, your fatherโ€ฆโ€ The fear and frustration were evident. Ten bodyguards outside her roomโ€”suffocating.

Chris kept his voice steady. โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Iโ€™ll take care of it.โ€

โ€œChris, I want to leave. I canโ€™t stay another minute. Please, let me go,โ€ she pleaded. Given the Ashfordsโ€™ treatment, her terror was understandable.

Chris exhaled. โ€œAlright. Youโ€™ll be discharged.โ€ He couldnโ€™t refuse.

Olivia hesitated. โ€œCan I leave tomorrow?โ€ Despite Chrisโ€™s reassurance, she felt uneasyโ€”perhaps her illnessโ€”afraid she wouldnโ€™t survive.

Chrisโ€™s headache worsened. He pinched his nose. โ€œAlright, tomorrow.โ€ He had to settle the Whispering Bay deal tonight, no matter what. His eyes hardened with icy determination.

He hung up on Olivia; his fatherโ€™s name flashed on his screen. He declined the call. He knew what his father wanted.

They arrived at Whispering Bay, only to be stopped at the gate. Kevin glanced at Chris, hesitant. Chrisโ€™s voice was cold and firm. โ€œGo talk to them. I need to see the owner.โ€ There was no negotiation; he wasn't leaving without a meeting.

Kevin nodded grimly. Jackson did the same, reaching for the door, when a car passed them, admitted without issue. Was thatโ€ฆthe estateโ€™s owner? The car seemed familiar.

โ€œSir, isnโ€™t that the same car Miss Giovanni got into outside Eastview Tower earlier?โ€
