Chapter 191
Chris nearly saw red. โYouโ!โ
Stephanie didnโt relent. โSure, youโre the CEO of the Ashford Group, but remind me, who really calls the shots?โ
โShut up!โ Chris snapped.
She chuckled. โYour dad may not be at the office much, but tell me, how much can you actually move from the companyโs accounts? Anything over ten million requires his signature, doesnโt it?โ
โAnd now youโre talking about โany priceโ? Do you even have that kind of money? What do you think your father will say when he finds out you want to spend millions on a recovery retreat for your little sweetheart?โ
Chrisโs head pounded. This womanโif she wasnโt throwing punches, she was certainly running her mouth. And honestly, heโd rather take a hit than listen to her any longer. Because as infuriating as she was, she wasnโt wrong.
Ever since Oliviaโs return, financial approvals at the company had changed. He couldnโt sign off on anything over ten million without his fatherโs approval. Hell, even a million-dollar transaction needed the green light from the top.
Chris clenched his jaw. โFine. Name your price.โ
Stephanie scoffed. โI already told youโyou canโt afford it. Why keep asking? Are you planning to take it by force?โ
That was the final straw. Chris felt like he might cough up blood. He was tempted to hang up, but considering how difficult it was to reach Stephanie, he forced himself to hold on.
Stephanie scoffed again. โTake it by force? Wow, you really think youโre something, huh?โ
โIโm notโโ
โThen can you even afford it? That place in Shallow Bay Area? Weโre talking a minimum of one hundred million.โ
โHundred million!โ Chrisโs face darkened. His first instinct was to call her ridiculous, but the truth was, that was the actual market value.
He took a deep breath. โI donโt have that much liquidity right now.โ
Damn this woman. Heโd never realized just how sharp she was. She had dissected the Ashford Groupโs internal structure with brutal accuracy. She wasnโt wrong. His father had originally given him full control, but ever since Oliviaโs return, things had shifted. The so-called policy changes were merely a coverโhis authority had been quietly stripped away.
Stephanie smirked. โOh, so you donโt have the money? Then that means youโre asking for my help? And with that attitude?โ
Chris clenched his jaw. Asking her for help? Who did she think she was?
โI just need you to introduce me to him.โ Heโd already encountered this man two or three times, each meeting ending badly. But now, he had to meet him.
Stephanie tilted her head. โStill sounds like asking for a favor. And this is how you ask?โ
Chris was silent. Stephanie casually took a sip of water just as Sebastian pushed open the door. He immediately noticed the mischievous glint in her eyes. โThis little troublemakerโwhatโs she up to now?โ
Whatever Chris said, Stephanie didnโt care. She simply replied, โBegging me wonโt work. Whoever wants to stay here can come ask themselves.โ With that, she hung up. Chris wasnโt her problem anymore.
She turned as Sebastian entered, carrying a plate of freshly cut fruit, the vibrant red flesh looking particularly tempting. Stephanie swung her legs off the bed as Sebastian placed the plate on the nightstand. He reached out, pressing a hand to her forehead. โNo fever.โ
She smirked. โWhat, you think Iโm like you? Drunk and running a fever?โ
Sebastian chuckled. โWho was that on the phone just now?โ
โChris.โ
His smile faded instantly. โWhat does he want now?โ
Stephanie casually speared a piece of fruit with her fork. โHe figured out youโre the owner here and wants me to introduce him to youโow!โ She winced as her teeth hit a seed.
Without thinking, Sebastian instinctively reached out, just as he used to when they were children, always ready to help when she choked. Stephanie hesitated, then quickly headed for the bathroom.
When she returned, she shot him a glare. โWhy do you even like this fruit? The seeds are way too hard. Nearly broke a tooth.โ
It was guavaโSebastianโs favorite. Stephanie, however, could never quite enjoy it.
Sebastian chuckled. โYou canโt be picky.โ
