Chapter 455

Once Bernard fled, only Ella and Lorenzo remained in the room. Ella tried to twist her face out of Lorenzoโ€™s grip. But Lorenzo instinctively tightened his hold. โ€œStill trying to dodge?โ€

โ€œLet go of me,โ€ Ella said.

Ella was puzzled why Lorenzo didnโ€™t refute Bernardโ€™s earlier remark. She squirmed, and when Lorenzo didnโ€™t release her, she writhed in discomfort. โ€œIt hurtsโ€ฆโ€

Lorenzoโ€™s grip was bone-crushing. She felt her bones might crack under his pressure. Hearing her say it hurt, Lorenzo froze, then let go. โ€œGo make some oatmeal,โ€ he said.

โ€œWhat?โ€ Ella was startled that Lorenzo wanted her to cook oatmeal.

Lorenzo added, โ€œApple oatmeal.โ€

Ella knew how to make apple oatmeal. Sheโ€™d made it for Stephanie when she had a fever. But then she thought of something. โ€œIsnโ€™t there a cook?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s been fired by me,โ€ Lorenzo said carelessly.

Ella was confused. When she first arrived, there was no cook. The cook was hired for just one day before getting the sack. Ella knew Lorenzo, being Sebastianโ€™s man, could well afford household help.

โ€œWhy?โ€ Ella was puzzled about the cookโ€™s dismissal and worried sheโ€™d have to take over cooking.

โ€œHer cooking was bad,โ€ Lorenzoโ€™s tone was nonchalant.

โ€œI thought it was pretty good,โ€ Ella replied automatically. She wasnโ€™t picky and enjoyed most foods, unlike Lorenzo.

Lorenzo said nothing and went to his room. Ella, getting no response, pouted and went downstairs.

The kitchen in Lorenzoโ€™s villa was open-plan, and the decoration was similar to others. Ella found the oats and apples. While cooking the oatmeal, she called Stephanie.

Stephanie answered the phone shortly. โ€œElla?โ€

Stephanieโ€™s breathing was heard over the phone. Ella asked, โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€

Stephanie said, โ€œSebastian got drunk. I just gave him some black coffee.โ€

Ella said, โ€œOh.โ€

Stephanie asked, โ€œWhat about you? Why call me at this hour?โ€

Ella said, โ€œIโ€™m making oatmeal for Lorenzo.โ€

โ€œCan you cook oatmeal?โ€ Stephanie, who couldnโ€™t cook, asked instinctively.

Ella snorted. โ€œAre you looking down on me? Youโ€™ve eaten my oatmeal before.โ€

At the mention of this, Stephanie instantly recalled and said, โ€œAre you sure it was oatmeal you made?โ€

โ€œWhy not?โ€ Ella asked.

Stephanie said, โ€œWho would make oatmeal like a pancake?โ€

Ella was the only person Stephanie had seen who could cook oatmeal as dry as a pancake, even with apples added. The taste was something she didnโ€™t want to recall. That day, since she had a fever, Stephanie had wanted something refreshing to eat. But what Ella made turned out like oatmeal pancakes, dry and lumpish. It was Ellaโ€™s cooking that made Stephanie eventually give up learning to cook. She realized that cooking really requires talent.

Ella was rendered speechless by Stephanieโ€™s words. โ€œIt was my first time cooking. You should be grateful.โ€ She felt that no one could cook well on their first try. โ€œDonโ€™t underestimate me. Iโ€™m cooking pretty well now,โ€ she said.

Stephanie raised an eyebrow. โ€œReally?โ€

โ€œOf course,โ€ Ella said proudly.

It was because of the failed attempt at making oatmeal for Stephanie that Ella thought, if someone around her fell ill and needed care in the future, she couldnโ€™t even cook a simple oatmeal. So Ella practiced many more times afterward.

Stephanie said, โ€œWait, why are you cooking oatmeal for Lorenzo? Arenโ€™t you scared of him?โ€

Ella was indeed very afraid of Lorenzo. But he had saved her nonetheless. Although Lorenzoโ€™s attitude when saving Ella was rather unpleasant, she couldnโ€™t deny his favor to her because of his unpleasantness. Thinking of his life-saving grace and her fear of him, Ella muttered, โ€œHeโ€™s injured.โ€
