Chapter 514
Ella really didn't mean for this to happen. It all started when she grabbed two different types of medicine from the bottles. Then, she went to find something to crush the pills, and with all the pouring of water and everything else, she accidentally mixed them up. She didn’t realize her mistake until Lorenzo started throwing up like crazy. That was when it hit her—she’d given him the wrong medicine. But right now, the doctor and everyone else were still inside with him.
Ella couldn’t explain herself. She was so overwhelmed that she cried, “I swear I didn’t mean to!”
Bernard rolled his eyes and asked, “You’re crying now? Just wait until you see how Lorenzo’s gonna deal with you!”
At that, Ella’s tears started falling even harder. “I… I really didn’t mean to…” she sobbed.
Bernard face-palmed and muttered, “Whether you meant it or not, we’ll have to wait and see if Lorenzo’s okay. If something happens to him…”
“But he won’t get hurt, right?” Ella asked. The moment she heard that Lorenzo might be in danger, she totally freaked out.
Speechless, Bernard thought to himself, “Who knows?”
“He gave him the medicine that was meant for external use. What do you think?” Bernard said, his voice sharp.
Ella’s face went white as she wiped away her tears and snot. They were already pumping his stomach, which meant the medicine wasn’t supposed to be ingested.
“He’s already thrown up. It shouldn’t be a big deal, right?” Ella asked, her voice shaky with worry. She was on the edge. But since Lorenzo had started vomiting right after taking the medicine, she hoped maybe it had all come out by now.
Bernard scoffed, “Well, you better pray he’s okay.”
Ella just silently prayed. “If anything happens to him, you’re the one who’s gonna get seriously punished,” Bernard warned.
Ella shivered, scared to death by his words. What she didn’t know was that Bernard was doing this on purpose. He had heard how Ella had been causing all kinds of problems around Lorenzo lately. She’d even ruined the noodles while cooking. If he didn’t scare her now, he was afraid she might cause more harm next. He figured it was better to get her to shape up. But he didn’t know that Ella was already terrified and completely on edge.
“I’m never looking after him again! I didn’t want to do it in the first place. It was you guys who forced me to!” she complained weakly.
Bernard snorted and said, “Oh, now you’re playing the victim?”
“I’m serious! I’ve been calling you guys all this time, but you didn’t come!” Ella snapped, frustrated. She’d even called Cecil when Lorenzo had a fever, but Cecil didn’t pick up. They were the ones who made her take care of Lorenzo, and now that something went wrong, they were going to blame her. She felt so frustrated.
Hearing that, Bernard clenched his jaw, clearly angry. Before Bernard could snap, Cecil came out of the room and shot him a sharp look. “Enough, stop scaring her.”
Cecil thought, ‘I could hear Ella crying outside when I was inside. She’s so timid. What does Lorenzo even see in her? Does he enjoy soothing women? No wonder he never liked the ones who whined. He probably prefers the ones who do,’ he pondered.
Bernard snorted. “I’m not scaring her. I’m just being honest. If something happens to Lorenzo, she won’t be alive, either.”
Ella, who was already on edge, felt a shiver run through her at Bernard’s words. Cecil gave Bernard a hard smack on the back of the head. “You’re the one asking for trouble,” he muttered. He thought, ‘Scare her? Let’s see who Lorenzo deals with first.’
Then Bernard shut up immediately. Ella sniffled and looked nervously at Cecil. “Thank you, sir. Is he okay now?”
Hearing that, Bernard burst out into laughter. “Thank you, sir? She even forgot your name.”
At that, both Cecil and Ella froze in surprise.
