Chapter 53

Catlin sighed, glancing at the ward. โ€œAlright, enough. Donโ€™t forget youโ€™ve got Mr. Hodgeโ€™s birthday banquet to attend. Get a move on; donโ€™t waste time.โ€

โ€œBut what about Stephanie?โ€ Tyler hesitated.

โ€œIโ€™ll handle it,โ€ Catlin cut him off, her eyes narrowing. She had figured it out: threats wouldnโ€™t work on Stephanie. It was time for a different tacticโ€”sweet-talking her into returning.

Meanwhile, Stephanie slid into the car, only then realizing someone else was in the front seat.

โ€œMacro? What brings you here?โ€ Stephanie was surprised. As the famous cardiologist from Fiorenza, she assumed Macro would be busy with surgeries and business. She hadnโ€™t expected to see him here.

Macro turned, grinning. โ€œWell, well, look at you. Hiding so well, I swear, if Sebastian didnโ€™t find you soon, heโ€™d start digging up graves to see if you were buried there.โ€

Stephanie felt a pang of guilt and shot a quick, guilty glance at Sebastian beside her. He made no comment, but snatched her phone without asking. Stephanie almost jumped. โ€œHey, give it back!โ€ she declared.

โ€œIโ€™m just checking if anythingโ€™s suspicious,โ€ Sebastian explained.

Stephanie watched in stunned silence as he scrolled through her contacts, messages, and WhatsApp. Was he investigating her? She couldnโ€™t believe it. She hesitated, then snatched her phone back. โ€œWhatโ€™s this? Iโ€™ve been out of school for years!โ€ she complained. Back then, the rule was no dating while in school, but she wasnโ€™t in school anymore. Stephanie hated Sebastian investigating her.

Sebastian chuckled and smoothly pulled her onto his lap. Stephanie felt uncomfortable; her eyes widened. โ€œWaitโ€ฆ Macro is still here.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s fine,โ€ Sebastian said, pressing a button. The divider between the front and back seats slid up without warning.

Stephanie squirmed, trying to get free. โ€œSebastian, Iโ€™m grown up now!โ€

Sebastian laughed softly. โ€œIs that so? So now youโ€™re ready for a relationship?โ€

Stephanie frowned. Relationship? She hadnโ€™t even considered it. She remained silent, but Sebastian pressed on. โ€œOr are you planning to go through with that engagement to Chris Ashford? The wedding is only a few days away. If I hadnโ€™t come backโ€ฆ would you really have gone through with it?โ€

A chill crept down Stephanieโ€™s spine. There was something dangerous in his voice.

Chapter 68

โ€œNo,โ€ she replied.

โ€œReally?โ€ Sebastian raised an eyebrow. Elliot had already done a background check; Stephanie had never fought back. Now, feeling the weight of Sebastianโ€™s presence, she couldnโ€™t take it any longer. โ€œChris was never going to marry me,โ€ she explained honestly. She hadnโ€™t resisted the engagement because she knew Chris wouldnโ€™t go through with it, especially with Olivia involved. Even more so, she didnโ€™t know if the Casalini family was truly gone. If someone was still watching, waiting for her to make a mistake, she couldnโ€™t risk Sebastian getting caught in the crossfire.

โ€œAre you so sure?โ€ Sebastian asked.

โ€œWell, you saw it yourself. He abandoned me for another woman,โ€ Stephanie shrugged.

Sebastian remained silent. The mention of โ€œanother womanโ€ deepened the already heavy atmosphere. Although Stephanieโ€™s situation with Chris had already displeased him, the fact that the Ashford brat had abandoned her for another woman enraged him further. He couldnโ€™t bear seeing his precious little sister, whom he had raised with such care, treated this way by another man.

Sebastianโ€™s eyes narrowed. He didnโ€™t speak, but patted Stephanieโ€™s back.
