Chapter 625

“All these doubts are looming over you,” Bernard replied.

‘Fuck, I’m reaching my limit,’ Ella thought. But she had to hold back—she had seen Bernard’s fierce look before. Now, all she could do was give him a glance, unable to say anything else.

Soon, they reached the study. Ella went in, her small face still showing signs of frustration. Lorenzo was smoking. When he heard the study door open, he glanced over, fixing Ella with an icy stare. “Did you call Stefi?”

Lorenzo was the type who lived on the edge. His casual reference to Stephanie revealed just how high her status was in Fiorenza.

Ella nodded, but suddenly, something clicked. “How did you know I called Stefi?” she asked.

She thought, ‘Isn’t it normal for me to call Stefi? I called her several times a day. But Lorenzo had never asked before, and now the first thing he wants to know is about this. What’s going on?’

“You’re not thinking Stefi is my undercover agent, are you?” Ella asked cautiously, eyeing Lorenzo. She knew if he started doubting even Stephanie, things could spiral out of control—who else in Fiorenza could help her out?

Lorenzo let out a cold laugh. “You? Have the ability to rope her in?”

Ella swallowed hard. ‘I don’t have that kind of influence, but his tone was just unpleasant!’

“As long as you’re not doubting Stefi, it’s fine. Go ahead and tell me what this is about. I’m telling you, I’m not going to do anything,” Ella stated.

She wasn’t too worried anymore about the spy thing. After knowing that Bernard was looking into it, she had stopped rushing for results—it wouldn’t change anything.

Lorenzo took a drag from his cigarette. “So, have you come to terms with the fact that your mom was the former leader of the Dark Portal?”

“What else can I do but accept it?” Ella replied, her defiance fading away. Given that Stephanie had confirmed it, things were pretty much set in stone.

In fact, Ella still couldn’t wrap her head around how Andrea ended up being the former leader of the Dark Portal. Ever since Ella could remember, Andrea had been a respectable businesswoman. Andrea’s business wasn’t huge, but she was all about keeping her word. Ella just couldn’t understand how someone like that could become the notorious former leader of the Dark Portal.

Lorenzo flicked the ash off his cigarette. “Wanna see her?”

“Huh? Yeah,” Ella replied. ‘Wait, didn’t I say that to Stefi on the phone? How did Lorenzo know? Could it be that even Stefi needs to go through Lorenzo to help me? So, the issue has circled back to the people around me? And it’s Lorenzo who’s helping me? How ridiculous.’

Lorenzo chuckled softly. “Not just anyone can meet the Dark Portal people.”

“So can I see her or not?” Ella asked, irritation creeping into her voice. ‘What did he mean by that? Can’t he just give me a straight answer?’

Lorenzo tossed his cigarette butt away and interlocked his fingers, looking at Ella intently. “You can.”

Ella blinked. ‘And then?’

“I’ll arrange this for you,” Lorenzo said.

‘So, I asked Stefi for help, and now it ended up with Lorenzo?’ Ella thought. Looking into Lorenzo’s deep eyes, she couldn’t help but sniff. “Will you really help me?”

Lorenzo nodded. “Yeah, but my assistance comes at a high price.”
