Chapter 69

Eastview Tower

After the meeting, Stephanie exited the conference room. Jennifer quickly approached. โ€œBoss, big news.โ€

โ€œWhat big news?โ€

โ€œSomeoneโ€™s trying to undermine you.โ€

Stephanie raised an eyebrow, glancing at Jennifer.

Jennifer continued, โ€œThe Hart family is telling major companies not to hire you. Weโ€™ve heard the same thing.โ€

Stephanie remained silent, a cold gleam flashing in her eyes. A slow smile curved her lips.

โ€œHeh, alright.โ€

โ€œAre we going to fight back?โ€ Jennifer asked, aware of Stephanieโ€™s connection to the Hart family and believing theyโ€™d gone too far. Treating their own daughter so harshly, clearly because of their adopted daughterโ€”what kind of family was this? It was despicable.

Stephanie replied, โ€œFight back? No need.โ€ Someone would handle them. Olivia Hart was terminally ill; she didn't want to bother. If no one acted, perhaps it was best to let things be. But the Hart family clearly felt too secure. If they were too comfortableโ€ฆ then she wouldโ€ฆ

A cold, mocking glint crossed Stephanieโ€™s eyes as she walked toward her office. Suddenly, the receptionistโ€™s voice echoed from the front: โ€œMr. Hodge? What brings you here? Are you here to give our studio a project?โ€

Stephanie turned. Jackson and Lilian were entering, Jackson looking furious. Spotting Stephanie, he strode toward her, growling at Lilian, โ€œHurry up.โ€

Stephanie frowned as they approached. Before she could react, they reached her.

โ€œStefi, itโ€™s been hard to find you. Can we talk?โ€ Jackson glanced around the small, but not shabby, studio. People were everywhere. He lowered his voice. โ€œCan we go somewhere quieter?โ€

Jacksonโ€™s arrival warranted a polite response. Stephanie nodded. โ€œFollow me.โ€ She led them to her office, gesturing toward the couch. โ€œTake a seat.โ€ She sat behind her desk and turned to Jennifer, whoโ€™d followed. โ€œTwo cups ofโ€ฆโ€

Stephanieโ€™s gaze shifted to Lilian. โ€œYouโ€™re picky, arenโ€™t you? Probably wonโ€™t like the coffee here.โ€

Lilian stood frozen, stunned. Seeing Stephanie at her desk, she thought of her visits to Jackson at his company. Why was Stephanie in that position? Was thisโ€ฆ?

Noticing Lilianโ€™s silence, Stephanie addressed Jennifer. โ€œJust one cup of coffee, please.โ€

โ€œOkay, boss.โ€ Jennifer nodded and left to get the coffee.

Jackson sat, but Lilian remained stunned. Stephanie took a sip of water. โ€œMr. Hodge, what brings you here?โ€

Jackson paused. Unlike Lilian, heโ€™d witnessed much at the Hodge Group.
