Chapter 113
That night, Stephanie slept peacefully in Whispering Bay. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Olivia endured a night of unbearable torment.
Early the next morning, a cardiology specialist approached Catlin. “Mrs. Hart, I need to speak with you. Could you step outside for a moment?”
Seeing the specialist's serious expression, Catlin felt a sinking feeling. She glanced at the unconscious Olivia, then nodded and followed him into the hallway.
Once outside, Catlin anxiously asked, “Is something wrong with Olivia’s condition?”
The specialist nodded slightly. “Over the past couple of days, my team and I have carefully analyzed Miss Hartstream’s condition. Her surgery is extremely complicated. To be honest, we’re not very confident about its success.”
Catlin’s heart clenched. “What do you mean? You’re the experts. If you can’t do it, who can?” Panic surged through her. These past few weeks had been agony. Olivia had suffered unbearable pain, and they had lived with the constant fear that she might not wake up. Hearing this news, Catlin felt her face drain of color.
The specialist continued, “I wanted to be upfront about the risks. However, there is one doctor who could significantly increase the surgery’s chances of success, if you can get him involved.”
“Which doctor?” Catlin’s eyes lit up with hope.
But the moment the doctor named him, her heart plummeted.
“Macro Vitale. He’s young, but extraordinarily talented in this type of surgery. He’s handled numerous complex procedures without a single failure,” the doctor explained.
Catlin’s mind went blank. Macro? Why him? He’s connected to Stephanie. We already tried contacting him, she thought. “Is there really no one else?” she asked, her voice laced with desperation. With all the medical talent in the world, she refused to believe he was the only one capable.
The specialist shook his head. “I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending anyone else. Miss Hart’s case is far more complicated than anything we’ve ever encountered.” A surgery of this complexity required someone with the highest level of skill and confidence. Given Olivia’s influence within the Hart family, the doctor wanted to be completely transparent. He wanted to avoid any repercussions if something went wrong.
Catlin stood frozen, feeling weak. After a moment, she numbly nodded. “Alright. I understand.”
The specialist handed her a file. “Here’s his contact information. We’ve already contacted him, but he refused. You might have better luck.”
Catlin mechanically took the file. The doctor left her alone in the hallway. Leaning against the cold wall, she felt utterly devastated and unsure of what to do.
Before she could devise a plan to enlist Macro's help, another specialist, this time from gynecology, approached. “Mrs. Hart, we need to talk. Miss Hart’s uterine condition is extremely critical. After our assessment, we’ve concluded that surgery is necessary… but the only viable option is a hysterectomy.”
Catlin’s breath hitched. “What did you just say?” Fury ignited in her eyes.
