Chapter 104-1
We had been in the car for hours, heading for a meeting with the Winter Peak pack. Both Finlay and I knew they were good wolves, so we had agreed to arrange a social gathering with them. Each pack would bring around twenty wolves. There would be a BBQ and time for the packs to get to know each other while we and their top tier discussed a formal alliance. We had made sure as many pack members as possible who came along were unmated, as occasions like these were rare and far between. It seemed to make the most sense to take full advantage of it.
Sam had objected when he was told to stay on pack land. It was sweet how seriously he took being my bodyguard, but we had persuaded him Ramses was almost as good. Finlay had even let Ramses drive, as long as we didn’t take Beula. I suspected it had a lot to do with the fact it allowed him to sit in the backseat with me.
“Any strategy when we get there?” Ramses asked.
“No. They are a friendly pack. Just relax and try to have some fun,” I said.
“And keep an eye on your Luna,” Finlay added. I rolled my eyes, secretly enjoying his stubborn protectiveness. LouAnn, who was sitting next to Ramses, giggled. The pack didn’t seem to mind when Finlay and I got overly sweet with each other, which was lucky.
“Yeah, I have got that memo. Sam may have told me a couple of times, or a hundred,” Ramses said, pretending to sigh heavily. We all laughed.
When we arrived at our destination, a smaller campsite we had booked for two days, the Winter Peak pack had already arrived and was setting up their tents. It felt amazing to get out of the car and stretch. Alpha Jonas and his Beta, Remy, came walking over.
“Nice to see you again, Alpha Finlay, Luna Amie, and congratulations on your mating,” the Alpha said and shook our hands.
“Thank you, and thank you for agreeing to this meeting so soon after the Game,” I said.
“Oh it’s good for the pack to have an opportunity to mingle with others,” Beta Remy said. I nodded.
“We tried to bring as many unmated members as we could. One can only hope,” Finlay told them. They both smiled.
“Let’s hope the goddess smiles upon us,” their Alpha agreed. We started getting our tents ready. There was a traditional way of placing them when meeting with other packs. A round opening was left in the middle with room for a fire pit, and the tents were arranged around it, ours on one half and theirs on the other half. Both packs helped with digging and lining the firepit and got it started. I smiled as I saw the excitement on everyone’s faces and food started to appear. Some were pre-made, some needed to be cooked over the fire. Finlay guided me to sit on one of the logs by the fire with him next to me. Alpha Jonas and Luna Beatrice joined us. The Alpha introduced us to his mate. She was just as nice as he was, and soon she and I were talking like we had known each other for years.
“Our youngest daughter Kayla was so happy she was allowed to come this time,” the Luna told me. “She was desperate to go with the pack to the Game, but we didn’t think it was a good place for her.”
“I can understand that, even for the supporting members it can be trying. How old is she?” I asked.
“Twenty. I’m happy we put our foot down, but I’m also happy she gets to come to events like these. It’s good for her to meet other packs and learn to accept different customs. And it doesn’t look like she will find her mate in our pack,” Luna Beatrice said.
“Then this is a good opportunity for her.”
“It is, but it’s a little scary for a mother. I have been spoiled as her older sister’s mate was a member of our pack and I got to keep her close. My son’s mate is from another pack, but since he is the Alpha heir, they settled down in our pack. But with Kayla, I don’t know. That girl is adventurous.” I smiled at the worried mother.
“I get it. At least it’s easy to keep in touch these days. My parents live across the country, but we FaceTime as often as we can. It’s not the same as seeing them in person, but it helps us keep in touch,” I told her. She nodded.
Chapter 104-2
“True, and if she meets her mate at an event like this we are almost certain to be on good footing with their pack, so it wouldn’t be an issue visiting.” I nodded. We switched topics and she asked about how I was settling into my role. It was nice being able to talk to another Luna; we shared some funny stories and traded experiences being mated to Alphas. A while later, Finlay placed a kiss on my cheek.
“You look like you are having fun,” he mindlinked me.
“I am having fun. You looked relaxed as well,” I answered.
“Yeah, they’re a good pack. I don’t see us leaving without a new ally," he said. I nodded and took a moment to look around. The two packs had started to intermingle, and I smiled as I saw how they stood around the food, talking and helping each other.
“It’s you!” I heard a female voice exclaim.
“Mate!” a male one replied. I knew that voice. My smile grew big as both Finlay and I stood up and walked in the direction of the voices. We were joined by Alpha Jonas and Luna Beatrice. On the other side of the fire, Ramses stood looking at a cute woman with total adoration. She was looking back at him like she couldn’t believe her eyes. The wolves around them had backed away, giving the two of them space. Finlay put his arm around my shoulders and pulled me into him. I could feel his happiness for our friend. Ramses woke up from his daze and began walking towards his mate; she did the same, and they met in the middle.
“I am Ramses, my home is in the Blue Mountain pack,” Ramses said and reached for her.
“I’m Kayla from the Winter Peak pack,” she said and placed her hand in his. I made the connection and looked at the Alpha couple next to me. They were both smiling and Luna Beatrice had tears in her eyes. They looked to be happy tears.
“That’s the Alpha couple’s daughter,” I mindlinked Finlay. He looked down at me in surprise and then looked at the couple next to me.
“Do you think it will be an issue?” he asked.
“I don’t think so, but I think we might have to part ways with Ramses. I don’t know if Kayla would be willing to switch packs.”
“That is always a risk,” he agreed. We looked at the new couple, and I couldn’t help but smile again. Even if we did lose him, I was happy for Ramses. He deserved to find his true mate and be happy. After standing and looking into each other’s eyes for a while, the two of them walked off, hand in hand. Everyone would leave them until they were ready to come back.
“They were more collected than us," Finlay pointed out. I blushed as remembered our claiming in the woods and elbowed him in the side.
“Don’t make me think about it in the middle of a crowd of werewolf with excellent smell,” I told him. He chuckled and kissed my heated cheek.
“Congratulations,” Finlay said to the Alpha couple next to us. “Ramses is an amazing wolf; he will make your daughter happy.” Both parents smiled at us.
“I saw him in action during the Game. I’m pleased to welcome him to the family,” Alpha Jonas said.
“If the goddess saw it fit to match him with Kayla, he has to be special. She can be a handful,” Luna Beatrice said and giggled. I liked how easily they accepted Ramses without even meeting him. It made me even more convinced we were doing the right thing to have this pack as an ally. As the couple had gone and there was nothing left to see, the packs resumed what they had been doing. I could hear the exciting discussions. If one couple could meet their true mate, so could others. It gave them all hope.
“This was one of our best ideas ever,” I told Finlay as we returned to our place by the fire.
“I agree.”
