Chapter 141: Watching This Sanctimonious Person Lose His Cool

Taylor and Riley, indifferent to online chatter, ignored social media. They had no intention of letting Gordon take center stage and instead discussed upcoming arrangements with Danielle. Meanwhile, Gordonโ€™s composure crumbled.

Initially self-righteous about his divorce and remarriage, the negative online reactionโ€”the ridicule and insultsโ€”finally overwhelmed him. Worse, his intentions had spread widely that evening. Losing his moral high ground at his age felt like a slap in the face. Sheltered by his wife, he'd been oblivious to his foolishness, blithely charging into this new relationship. Consumed by regret, he could barely stand.

Isabella mocked him inwardly: Look at you, drenched in cold sweat. I wonder if you anticipated this outcome?

The Quirks felt that even without the current incident, Gordon would have quickly sacrificed Rebecca to deflect the online storm. He was inherently selfish and uncaring.

Suddenly, Gordon bolted toward Rebecca.

Isabella scoffed silently: Oh, he's going to use Rebecca to clear his name, hoping to escape unscathed?

The Quirks thought: Sure enough, he's shameless.

Despite their disapproval, they moved to intercept him near Rebecca. Danielle, mid-conversation with Taylor and Riley, stepped in front of Gordon.

He forced a strained smile. "I need to see Rebecca about business."

Danielle offered a disingenuous smile. "The performance is canceled, so there shouldn't be any problems. Ms. Yancey has worked hard; let her rest. We're about to interview the supporting actresses, so it's crucial she's in good condition. I suggest you leave her alone."

"What business is it of yours?" Gordon snapped.

Isabella was amused. He's flustered, genuinely panicked. Even the backstage onlookers were captivated, especially the Quirks.

"It'll soon be our business," Danielle countered with a smirk. "After all, isn't Ms. Yancey's contract almost up?"

Stunned, Gordon stared. He'd considered using Rebecca because her impending contract expiration meant she'd lose her backing. He planned to intimidate her. But he saw she was surrounded by Team A-list. She was no longer vulnerable.

Gordon retreated, defeated.

Simon, a newcomer to the entertainment industry, was intimidated. He followed his uncle and overheard Gordon's phone call with Ruth. Fearing exposure for his own actions, he eavesdropped nervously.

"What have you done?" Simon whispered.

Unexpectedly, instead of pleading, Gordon berated Ruth. Simon was astonished by his uncle's self-righteous reliance on women.

Ruth's voice wavered. "Hubby, did your proposal not goโ€”"

"Shut up!" Gordon roared. "Your reckless actions ruined everything! This was private. Why did you reveal it? Why did you team up with those wives? It backfired! Do you know what Mr. Carey and Mr. Briggs said? They're industry giants, and this is the first time I've been treated like a nobody! This is all your fault!"

Gordon, known for his refined demeanor, displayed unexpected ferocity. Ruth was stunned.

"Hubby I'm sorry. I didn't know they'd turn against me," Ruth stammered.

"Their husbands committed those acts, but why am I being punished? After all these years, don't you know me? You couldn't have children, but did I ever blame you? I even told othersโ€”" Gordon's anger escalated. He felt wronged. He hadn't exploited Rebecca; heโ€™d planned to propose. He couldn't understand the backlash, deeming his wife and Rebecca fools.

"No, Hubby. I was only trying to deal with Rebecca. It's an accident. I wouldn't harm you," Ruth cried.

"Find a solution, or our marriage is over," Gordon threatened.

Ruth fell silent. Only when Gordon grew impatient did she murmur, "Let's discuss this at home."

Gordon sighed in relief. Good, she's cooperating. If she'd raised past issues, that would have been a disaster.

Simon was speechless at Gordon's hypocrisy and Ruth's continued loyalty. I need a new plan.

After Gordon left, Taylor and Riley arranged interviews with the supporting actresses. This move won over netizens. Theyโ€™d feared Rebecca would cling to Gordon; instead, the opposite was true.

As the actresses appeared, online comments erupted with praise. However, the actresses showed nervousness and trauma from past scandals.

"Understandable, considering it's been seven years," the emcee chuckled.

An actress laughed, "Yes, seven years."

"But your performance was fantastic."

"I have a passion for acting," she said genuinely.

Her performance, after such a long absence, proved her love for acting.

"It was splendid," the emcee said. "Netizens are asking when you'll act again."

The actress smiled, relieved. "I'm grateful to Ms. Jeannet and Mr. Christopher for this chance. They helped me see that virtue is rewarded, and evil punished. I've retired, but if they need me"
