Chapter 145: Should I Resist?

"Darn it, how did she know?" Isabella was taken aback. The Quirk family exchanged stunned glances.

Ruth's expression faltered, then she snapped, "What are you talking about?"

Rebecca retorted, "If there was nothing to hide, you'd be puzzled, not enraged. You're not an actress; it's hard to deceive a professional without exceptional acting skills. It was strange that you asked to meet me, even stranger when youโ€”"

Ruth couldn't contain herself any longer.

Rebecca held her coffee cup. "I wanted a peaceful resolution, Mrs. Gonzales, but since you're so ruthless, don't blame me for what happens next."

Rebecca immediately called someone on her phone.

"Are you calling the police?" Ruth shrieked.

Hearing a noise from the next cubicle, Isabella stood. The Quirk family followed suit. Nearby waitstaff, alerted by the commotion, rushed over. Ruth lunged toward Rebecca's coffee cup.

Rebecca was about to flee with her cup when Ruth shoved her from behind. Isabella caught Rebecca as she stumbled, but the coffee cup slipped, splashing someone from head to toe.

The Quirk family, still seated, stared blankly at the newcomerโ€”Alexander, drenched in coffee. Both Ruth and Rebecca were shocked; they hadn't expected to encounter Isabella and the Quirks.

Isabella helped Rebecca steady herself. She wanted to laugh at Alexander's disheveled state but felt it inappropriate. Alexander's look prompted her to grab a napkin and haphazardly wipe him down, like a drenched puppy. Surprisingly, he didn't resist.

Ruth regained her composure. Relieved the coffee was gone, she apologized. Then she left hastily. Rebecca didn't stop her; arguing would be futile. However, she'd obtained a copy of the surveillance footage.

The Quirk family noted the shattered coffee cup, believing Ruth wouldn't dare provoke Rebecca again. Christopher urged Rebecca not to act alone in the future. She agreed. Rebecca then calmly left the hotel.

The hotel manager invited Alexander to use the presidential suite. He couldn't leave with coffee-soaked hair. The Quirk family tried to persuade Isabella to accompany him.

Before they could speak, Isabella said, "I'll accompany you."

Alexander looked at her, surprised. The Quirk family was overjoyed.

The presidential suite they're on the same floor. Gordon's under the drug's effects; Mrs. Gonzales should be with him. The paparazzi might break in what could they capture? The Quirk family pondered the situation. Their curiosity was piqued.

Alexander sighed and left, Isabella following closely. The Quirk family then booked a room.

In their room, Alexander discovered his clothes were stained, too. He called his assistant for a fresh change of clothes. After showering, he emerged in a bathrobe to retrieve his clothes.

Isabella was sitting on the bed, holding his clothes, her gaze intense. Alexander felt a stir in his heart. Isabella turned to him, her eyes vibrant.

"What are you doing?" Alexander's voice was hoarse.

Isabella, animated, said, "I thought could the residue on the clothes be tested for medicinal properties?" She relayed overheard conversation to avoid suspicion.

Alexander was speechless. "Have the assistant deliver it for testing." Isabella nodded, then stole a glance at him, looking confused.

"Anything else?" Alexander asked.

"No," Isabella said. "Have you finished washing?"

Alexander was about to nod when he heard Isabella's inner thoughts: Darn, I forgot. Alexander's lips might have touched the coffee. If there's even a trace of the drug his complexion looks flushed is it the drug or the hot bath?

Alexander was taken aback. He felt a flush creep into his cheeks. Could there be a drug effect? Would he lose his senses? Should I resist or not?

Alexander moved to pick up his clothes. He wouldn't act under such unclear circumstances. Then he heard Isabella's thought, "Ah, once we're divorced, it'll be tough to find someone of this caliber to share the bed again."

Alexander froze. The thought pricked him.

No, no, no. It's not right to take advantage calm down. He positioned himself before her.

The ending is abrupt and needs further editing to be complete. There are also a few places where the narration shifts awkwardly between third-person and Isabella's thoughts. Consider clarifying the narrative perspective for a smoother read.
