Chapter 147: Such a Pretentious Iron Man

Things took an interesting turn when Gordon burst into the room. Isabella and her group immediately went to investigate. Inside, Simon and Ruth were still under the covers, barely dressed.

Gordon, trembling and pale, pointed at them angrily. Ruth’s face was ashen with desperation. "Hubby, I'm not…" she began.

Simon, from the side, adopted a pitifully pretentious air, his demeanor suggesting, "Ruth, please have pity on me." The Quirks nearly erupted in laughter. Alexander commented on Simon’s surprisingly burly physique, contrasting with his affected voice. The paparazzi, shedding their pretense, transformed into seasoned reporters, immediately accosting Gordon.

"Mr. Gonzales, how did your family of three end up here in such an unusual arrangement?" they asked. The Quirks were highly amused. More questions followed: "Mrs. Gonzales, between these two, who do you truly love?" "Was the previous divorce rumor true? Was it because of Miss Rebecca, or an affair with your nephew?" "Mr. Gonzales, did this setback affect your stage performance? Did you come here to catch them in the act?" "Mrs. Gonzales, what were you thinking? Having an affair and conspiring with other wives against Rebecca?"

The couple felt embarrassed and indignant. Ruth hoped Gordon would dismiss the crowd before she could explain.

Mr. Gonzales, don't be such a hypocrite. You stated you didn't love Mrs. Gonzales. So, you can pursue love, but if your wife cheats, she's the villain?

The Quirks found Gordon’s portrayal of the wronged party laughable. He seemed to view Ruth as a possession—discardable, but not to be taken by another. Gordon's emotions were in turmoil. He'd agreed to reconcile, yet she'd had an affair with his nephew.

"You despicable wretch!" Gordon exploded. His reputation felt trampled. "At your age, acting so desperate! You can't handle being alone? Even if you can't, find a stick or something! How dare you go after someone younger, you shameless thing!"

Gordon's outburst implied Ruth's infidelity. Ruth, pale and disbelieving, was already upset. She’d hoped for his support, but received only harsh insults. Her mental state teetered. She wondered if Gordon realized his precarious position: entangled in scandal, his reputation in tatters, reliant on Ruth for recovery. Even if he couldn't regain his status, living off a wealthy woman wasn't so bad

The Quirks were taken aback by his lack of self-awareness. Ruth's praise had made him foolish. In reality, she held the power in their relationship—everything he had was from her.

Isabella observed the unfolding drama, thinking, Oh, Gordon, you naive fool! What's wrong with being cheated on if it ensures your survival? You should be swallowing your pride, not acting so high and mighty. Aren't you afraid your nephew will steal your spotlight?

The Quirks stifled their laughter, acknowledging her sarcastic mastery. But if Ruth remained a hopeless romantic…

"Gordon, shut up!" Ruth commanded tearfully.

Gordon was stunned. An awakening? An impending argument? The Quirks leaned in, anticipating the drama.

Surprisingly, Simon spoke first.

"Uncle Gordon, how could you speak of Ruth like that? It was an accident! Besides, it was you who fell out of love first, wanting to divorce her…" He paused, looking helplessly at Ruth, seeming to realize he'd misspoken. Who says he's a rookie? Danielle will want to sign him! So pretentious, yet such a good actor – a pretentious iron man!

The Quirks struggled to contain their laughter, mindful of the professional actors in the room. Some vowed to avoid green tea in the future, to avoid associating its delicate nature with Simon’s dramatic performance.

His slip of the tongue confirmed the gossip. The paparazzi swarmed Gordon. He lunged at Simon, intending to drag him out.

"It was you! You orchestrated this!"

The ensuing struggle disturbed the quilt. Ruth instinctively protected it, which Gordon interpreted as protecting Simon. He slapped her. "Fool, you're still helping him? He's after your money and status! Their family are leeches, living off me, now trying to replace me! How much genuine affection could he possibly have for you!"

Gordon's self-destructive behavior was clear. Ruth's displeasure was evident, yet he continued his insults. The Quirks noted the chilling intent replacing the tears in her eyes.

Simon spoke, convincingly: "Uncle Gordon, just because you didn't value Ruth doesn't mean others won't. Ruth has always been incredibly kind to me. No one has ever treated me so well. Is it so unreasonable that I fell for her? Ruth is outstanding."

His words were so believable that many almost accepted them as truth. The contrast between the earlier criticism and the later praise was striking.

"Y-You little beast, you had an affair with your uncle's wife! Do you think you have a future?" Gordon shouted at Ruth. "Get up, let's call the police and arrest this little beast!"

Simon, startled, called out, "Ruth!"

Ruth spoke decisively, "You've already handed me the divorce papers, so how can you consider my relationship with Simon as cheating!"
