Chapter 18: He Deserves It
Christopher, his mind in disarray, slipped away after briefly entertaining the guests with Alexander. Alexander, equally unconcerned with Christopher, had only made him stay to discuss Isabella.
Meanwhile, Luna watched Henry and Marjorie boast about Bianca, ignoring her completely. She was numb to their behavior, but a lingering gaze made her uneasy. Unable to identify its source amidst the crowd, she sought refuge in the bathroom.
The Quirk family's guest bathrooms were at the hallway's end, separated by gender. As Luna approached the women's restroom, a strong force shoved her inside.
"Ali!" she screamed, startled, but someone covered her mouth. She found herself pinned against the wall by a man—a wealthy scion she vaguely recognized. He tugged at her dress.
"Trying to act innocent, huh, bitch? I don't care whose fiancée you are. You'll learn what it's like to offend me…"
Luna heard her dress rip. Overwhelmed and flustered, tears welled as she struggled, unable to scream. Sensing his breath on her neck, she sobbed.
Just as despair consumed her, the door burst open.
"F*ck! Are you asking for trouble?"
Christopher, enraged, was upon the man, his fist sending him spinning. Noticing Luna's torn dress revealing her thigh, he averted his gaze, saying, "Fix yourself up," before tossing her his coat and dragging the man out.
Furious but controlled, Christopher took the man to the deserted backyard, throwing him to the ground and kicking him. The man, regaining his senses, yelled, "Christopher, are you insane? You're defending her, even though you're involved with her sister? You don't even acknowledge her as your fiancée! Are you catching her cheating?"
Christopher's face darkened. "No matter who she is to me, I won't allow this in the Quirk manor. Why force her when she's unwilling?"
"F*ck. It was just a lover's spat, to spice things up!"
Christopher was stunned. "W-What did you say?"
The man grinned maliciously. "I didn't cuckold you. That slut seduced me, then dumped me after three months. Can you blame me for wanting an explanation?"
Christopher, enraged, lunged to choke him. "Say that again!"
The man, equally furious, retorted, "What the hell? Just because you don't want her, no one else can? Stop—"
Alfred intervened, separating them. "Mr. Christopher, it's not right to hit a guest. Keep your cool." He quickly removed the man, sensing Christopher's fury. "Mr. Christopher, attend to the guests. Mr. Alexander is looking for you."
Christopher, regaining composure, turned to find Luna, pale and stunned, clutching his coat. He was about to leave when she exclaimed, "It wasn't me! It's Bianca. I'm sure she caused this…"
"Luna," Christopher roared.
Luna, seeing the look in his eyes, felt a shock. He mocked her, "Let's forget the past, but this time, how can you still blame Bianca?"
Luna's face drained of color. She wanted to explain but couldn't.
Christopher sneered. "Bianca feels guilty about us, and out of respect for the engagement, we've never officially dated. It's not worth it. Luna, I don't care about your feelings, but I've only loved Bianca since she saved me. Let's call off the engagement. I'll only marry Bianca."
Luna's hope vanished. The coat slipped from her grasp. The pain was profound, despite expecting this.
"So you knew I liked you," Luna said.
Christopher ignored her. Luna laughed bitterly. "Don't worry, it won't happen again. Let's call off the engagement. Everyone but Grandma will believe Bianca."
Christopher felt a pang, but said, "Good you're cooperating. But if you harm Bianca again…"
Isabella's thoughts interrupted him: Tsk tsk. Someone's trying to get on his love's bad side!
Christopher turned to see Isabella and Alexander. They'd only heard him breaking off the engagement. Alexander frowned. "What happened? Why the scene? Didn't we agree to settle this later?"
Christopher didn't reveal the bathroom incident, protecting Luna's reputation. "It's nothing."
Alexander noticed Luna's torn dress. He whispered to Isabella, "Take her upstairs to change."
Isabella glared at Christopher as she led Luna away, noticing her numb expression. Isabella's inner thoughts followed: He said Bianca's the only one in his heart since she saved him. Should I tell him his savior was Lia, not Bianca? He deserves it for making a mistake.
Christopher's irritation flared. He was about to lash out when Alexander coldly interrupted, "Shut up, Christopher."
Isabella left with Luna. Christopher, unable to contain his anger, yelled, "Alex, did you hear—"
Alexander asked, "You want to marry Bianca. If Luna saved you, not Bianca, would your decision be the same?"
Christopher was incredulous. "How could I not know who saved me? Mr. and Mrs. Cowell, Bianca, and even Luna know it was Bianca! How could it be wrong?"
The Quirks hadn't told Christopher because they trusted Isabella and knew verification was impossible. Their plan was to address it later, allowing Christopher to decide. Alexander felt Christopher shouldn't let this illusion dictate his choice. He hadn't expected this eruption.
Christopher blurted out, "Could Luna be pretending she saved me to make me choose her? Hah, no way!"
Alexander said flatly, "Stop reading into things. It's a secret Isabella knows. Whether it's a mistake, we'll clear it up later. But consider who you'd choose if there was a mistake."
"I love Bianca's innocence and kindness. Even if she hadn't saved me, I'd still choose Bianca!"
Alexander thought, I have no idea what kind of person Luna is, but I'm sure Bianca is no saint. Christopher is so blinded! He realized Isabella was right—Christopher deserved it.
