Chapter 239: No Need to Be Afraid of the Gossip Queen

Daphne's declaration of divorce caused an uproar among the Ford and Brown families. The Browns, known for their strong sense of justice, immediately defended their family against Daphne's statement, especially since Roland didn't oppose it.

The Fords panicked. Their business acumen wasn't top-tier, and their success largely depended on the Browns' military connections, which opened many doors. Without those ties, they wouldn't have achieved their current status. They lacked a genius successor like Alexander to turn the tide, so they desperately tried to maintain their relationship with the Browns, resorting to familiar pleas.

After all, infidelity and illegitimate children were relatively common among their circles. Some even viewed Owen favorably; he treated Daphne well, had only one mistress, and one illegitimate childโ€”a relatively "clean" private life by their standards. In fact, three out of five men present were unfaithful to their marriages. Marital fidelity was the exception, not the rule, in their upper-echelon society. However, an illegitimate child rarely caused such a scandal; Daphne's angry divorce was understandable.

The Fords urged Owen to apologize, even if it meant public humiliation, to win back Daphne. She remained resolute, summoning family members and her son's police colleagues to remove them. Humiliated, the Fords eventually left. Owen and the butler were also escorted out, Owen's phone ringing incessantly. Isabella's inner thoughts revealed the caller to be his mistress abroad. Ethan had complained to her, and she still held considerable sway over Owen. He wanted to smash his phone upon seeing her caller ID. The guests, witnessing Owen's embarrassment, suppressed their laughter.

Once the commotion subsided, the hosts began to dismiss the guests. Daphne and Roland apologized to each person. As they departed, excited chatter about the day's events filled the air. High society was about to be rocked again, although Isabella likely didn't anticipate being involved once more.

[Scene Break]

"Apparently, Roland found the surveillance video first, then Daphne became suspicious after seeing it. She caught them in the act."

"Roland didn't suspect anything beforehand? Why would he investigate Sasha?"

"Someone must have shown him the video. He seemed normal before the wedding."

"Come to think of it, I've seen Mr. and Mrs. Quirk with Roland quite a bit"

"You mean Alexander and?"

"Yes, that one"

"Why is it her again? She was at the Locke family incident, close to those involved."

"Must be a coincidence. They're Alexander's friends; naturally, they'd be here."

"No, no, the 'Justice Upholder' knows metaphysics. So, if you attend events with her, you witness high-society scandals?"

"You think Mrs. Quirk is a walking scandal magnet? Gossip follows her everywhere?"

"Well, I just want to know her next event. Watching scandals unfold live is thrilling."

"As long as she doesn't attend my family's events, I'm fine. I'd be terrified."

"If you have a clear conscience, what do you have to fear from the 'Gossip Queen'? Unless yourโ€ฆ"

"Go awayโ€ฆ your familyโ€ฆ"

Just as Isabella was about to leave, she felt a prickling sensation, as if many people were watching her. Alexander's friends exclaimed.

Clifford frowned. "Isabella, honestly, is there some metaphysical force around you?" He wondered if his bad luck with Zendaya was related to Isabella, given Zendaya's admiration for her. Not that he cared about Zendaya, but her playing hard to get was annoying. She was a mere substitute and should cooperate; he'd allowed her to stay, wasn't that enough? Isabella had no time to analyze Clifford's convoluted thoughts, or she would have ridiculed him.

"This time, Alexander investigated, not me," Isabella quickly deflected. Alexander nodded.

"Didn't you want to see a dog and then stumble upon the illegitimate child issue?" Ines laughed.

Others didn't overthink it like Clifford, simply finding Isabella prone to juicy gossip. Normally, they wouldn't be so cheerful about Roland's ordeal, but this was ultimately beneficial for him. Moreover, the Josiah and Audrey incident had desensitized them.

"Do you both break up a couple at every event?" Aiden asked Deborah. "Deborah, be careful; your engagement party is next."

Deborah shrugged. "If a couple breaks up, problems existed. This is good for damage control. But we'll be fine; it's a loveless arranged marriage. He's a player, and we're cooperating." This was the first time Deborah discussed her marriage. It was purely transactional; they lived separate lives. Deborah didn't play games, but her partner did. With no feelings involved, there was no hurt.

Isabella habitually observed Damien's reaction whenever Deborah spoke. It was hard to suppress gossip, especially knowing someone secretly liked another. Damien glanced at Deborah with a complex expression, then teased Aiden, "Why not mention your father's wedding?"

Aiden turned to Isabella. "You must come and ruin my dad's wedding."

Ines playfully slapped Aiden. He innocently said, "You wouldn't want your future mother-in-law to be your age, would you?"

Aiden's father remarried frequently, to the point of numbness. Aiden suspected he was collecting wedding gifts. Each remarriage caused chaos, forcing Aiden to stay abroad. He and Ines had several times planned to return and marry, only to be thwarted by his father's romantic escapades. The only upside: his father was unlikely to have more illegitimate children due to physical limitations.

After much laughter, Roland arrived. Among close friends, he didn't hide his exhaustion.
