Chapter 302: Lady of the Burke Family

Tears welled up in Yvonne's eyes. She felt genuinely threatened. Elijah froze as she cried.

"What exactly do you want from me? Are you trying to stop me or expose me?" Yvonne asked, her voice hushed. Unsure of what to do, she felt lost. This unexpected situation was a complete surprise. Was all her careful planning about to unravel? Elijah's expression shifted several times before he finally spoke. "I know your motive is to remain the lady of the Burke family, but you owe me an answer. That child—the one you lost—it wasn't my older brother's, was it?"

Isabella finally snapped back to reality. "Good heavens! What a predicament! So, two months ago at the family gathering, Elijah had too much to drink and slept in one of the Burke manor's rooms. He slept with someone while drunk, and upon waking, discovered it was his older brother's new wife. That gave him quite a fright. Hmm? Wait, what on earth was Yvonne up to?"

The Quirks waited impatiently for an explanation. Why did this sound so improbable? Given that everyone at the Burke manor had their own room, how did Elijah end up in Yvonne's room? Besides, if Elijah was drunk, what were the chances Yvonne was too? Yvonne must have been involved, right?

But based on her previous statements, even if she was having an affair, it should have been with Aiden. How could it have been with Elijah?

Alexander's frown deepened as he listened; something didn't add up.

Isabella continued: "Elijah was just as confused about what happened that night. No matter how messy his private life is, he would never allow his own relatives to be cheated on. That's why he didn't dare face Yvonne, fearing her reaction upon waking. So, without figuring things out, he slipped away while she was still asleep. Dang, this guy really just snuck away! Was he that afraid of that woman?"

The Quirk family was speechless. This man seemed incapable of taking responsibility.

Isabella: "Once he calmed down, Elijah discreetly inquired and found that his older brother showed no signs of knowing anything. This relieved him. He assumed it was a one-night stand, a mishap. But, a month later, he heard his sister-in-law was pregnant. This news kept him awake; the timing suggested the child could be his. Still, he didn't address it; he remained a coward."

The Quirk family: "You chose to run away with your tail between your legs, and now that the child is gone, you have the audacity to question her? Are you so filled with regret that you want to confirm whose child it was?"

"What are you implying? Of course, that child was my husband's," Yvonne said, her voice suddenly anxious.

"Really? Even when Ralph clearly had fertility issues? Could he even… perform? Maybe he couldn't, which is why that night at the Burke manor you…"

"You!" Yvonne's face went pale.

Elijah paused, unable to continue. They both knew what he meant.

Isabella: "So, that's it. After hearing that Yvonne had been cheating with Aiden, he suspected she'd deliberately gone to his room that night. He distinctly remembered being so drunk he was unconscious, and it seemed Aiden had helped him to his room. In that state, he couldn't have forced himself on Yvonne."

Isabella: "Yvonne sleeping with him had to be part of a scheme. They barely knew each other, so she must have been trying to gain something. Perhaps she intended to secure her position in the family by bearing a child!"

The Quirk family: "So, that's it?"

Alexander stilled. Aiden was also involved? A strange thought occurred to him.

Could it be…

Bewildered, he remained calm, quietly taking out his phone. Ines, lost in her own emotions, listened in a daze, yet surprisingly focused.

That child wasn't Mr. Elijah's?
