Chapter 305: A Campus Teen Drama
Isabella and Alexander were reeling in disbelief when they heard faint sobbing. They then noticed Ines, who appeared on the verge of a meltdown. She clamped her hand over her mouth, but couldn't stifle her sobs.
Isabella quickly crouched down and embraced Ines, comforting her. "It must be a lie," she said. "You have to trust Aiden. We'll clear things up later."
Resolving this situation would have been easy if Isabella weren't dealing with the problem next door. Yvonne had already begun spreading rumors, so understanding her web of deceit was crucial to avoid further misunderstandings. Such careless mistakes—the kind seen in melodramatic TV dramas—couldn't happen with Isabella around. There was no room for error.
The conversation next door continued. Elijah found Yvonne's story hard to believe. She recounted a bittersweet love story about her and Aiden, high school classmates from vastly different backgrounds. They weren't even in the same class, making it unlikely they knew each other.
At that time, Aiden, a brooding, discontented young man, frequently skipped class and slept in the infirmary. He also spent late nights at bars. Yvonne first saw him in the infirmary after fainting in gym class due to anemia. She was placed near him, and in her half-conscious state, saw a strikingly handsome young man—an "angel," in her words—though enveloped in an aura of loneliness.
Isabella, momentarily diverted from her frustration, found this amusing. Alexander smirked, commenting on the subjective nature of beauty.
Yvonne continued: "Back then, I was smitten. I secretly learned about his difficult childhood—he'd been motherless since childhood, and his father neglected him—which explained his loneliness. I wanted to alleviate his solitude, so I often sought him out at the infirmary. At first, I was too shy to talk to him. But one day, when he was ill with a fever, I finally spoke. Those shared moments became our little secret. He was always kind, providing food and drink, but rarely spoke of his inner turmoil. I desperately wanted to understand him, but we ended up at different universities, and lost contact before I could say goodbye."
Alexander questioned this unrequited love story, pointing out how much time they'd spent together and wondering why they'd lost contact. Didn't they have any means of communication? Had Yvonne never shared contact information? Had they never even become friends on social media?
Alexander almost laughed; Isabella agreed with his assessment. However, Yvonne's story was captivating enough to sway even Ines, who now believed their high school years held beautiful, heart-stirring moments. This was surprising, considering Ines had captured Aiden's attention in university.
Even the stoic Elijah was moved. "So, when were they together?" he asked.
