Chapter 393: Her Confession
Outside the door, Christopher and Rosalie could hear nothing, relying entirely on Isabella's telepathic relay. Her account left them bewildered.
Inside, Carlos felt guilty and offered amends. "I could offer compensationโmoney, a house, connections. I don't mean to insult you, but"
Sylvie refused. "I don't require compensation, Mr. Carlos."
Isabella's inner voice scoffed. Why wouldn't she want compensation? He's the young master of the Quirk family! She's the victim! This isn't a drama! Accepting money isn't undignified!
Christopher and Rosalie, influenced by Isabella's pragmatic views, agreed. Wealth was a suitable consolation for lacking affection.
Isabella's inner monologue continued: All right, I underestimated you. You're secretly thrilled; you ended up in bed with your crush! You lucked out, seizing an opportunity you never dreamed of. Even if you can't be a couple, you lived a dream. One can't be too greedy. You know how to take things in stride! Christopher and Rosalie stifled laughter; from her perspective, it made perfect sense.
They were surprised by Sylvie's self-awareness; she felt she'd taken advantage of the situation and was determined not to push her luck.
Carlos, seemingly burdened by a sense of indebtedness, frowned. Seeing him distressed, Sylvie worried he misunderstood her. She had a request: "Could you write a recommendation letter? I'm applying to be an exchange student. Your mentor is there; a good word would be appreciated."
Carlos's mentor was highly influential. Relieved, Carlos felt her request was insignificant compared to what she'd endured, but he agreed. "No problem. You refused my apprenticeship because of this, didn't you? I owe you one."
Sylvie realized he'd heard about her from the director. She decided to be frank. "You considered me as your student; that shows you recognized my abilities. But regardless of this incident, I can't be your disciple."
Carlos was stunned.
[Second Section โ Isabella's excitement and the confession]
Outside, Isabella's excitement surged. A confession is coming! Even if it leads nowhere, express your feelings to avoid regrets!
Christopher and Rosalie, ignoring ethical concerns, stealthily opened the door to eavesdrop.
Inside, Sylvie confessed, avoiding eye contact. "Carlos, I secretly adore you. But I love singing. As your apprentice, I couldn't focus on my studies; I'd constantly think of you. So, I decided to leave. I know you won't reciprocate, so I harbored no illusions. I'm sorry for betraying your trust. You're wonderful. I hope things go well for you."
Carlos was speechless.
Sylvie smiled, bowed, and left. When Christopher, Rosalie, and Isabella entered, Carlos remained dazed.
