Chapter 43: I Suggest You Two Break Up

Rosalie was taken aback. Dominic had never been so harsh with her. Knowing his concern, she quickly replied, โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Dom. I was held up and missed your call.โ€

โ€œIs your brother giving you a hard time because of our relationship?โ€ he asked, worried.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Dom. Chris just has a quick temper. Heโ€™s mad because I didnโ€™t tell them about us beforehand. Itโ€™ll be fine once I explain.โ€

Dominicโ€™s disdainful voice echoed through the phone. โ€œWhy is he still meddling? Rosie, youโ€™re an adult, independent, and free. You have the right to make your own decisions and donโ€™t have to tell them everything.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m the youngest. They care about me,โ€ Rosalie said, smiling. โ€œOh, right, my eldest sister just told meโ€ฆโ€

She stopped. She wanted to share Isabellaโ€™s secret but remembered Evianโ€™s warning.

โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œUmโ€ฆ Nothing.โ€

Dominic grumbled, clearly upset. โ€œAre you keeping something from me? Weโ€™re a couple. There shouldnโ€™t be any secrets. Weโ€™ll share our lives together. I keep no secrets from you; you should be completely open with me. It saddens me you keep things from me. It seems I love you more than you love me.โ€

Rosalieโ€™s face turned red. โ€œNo, thatโ€™s not it.โ€

She hesitated, her upbringing preventing her from revealing Isabella's secret. She could confide in Dom, but it wasn't her secret to tell.

Dominic, uneasy, probed, โ€œDo your family members look down on me? Do they think Iโ€™m not good enough for you?โ€

Rosalie was shocked. โ€œHow could you think that? Youโ€™re exceptional!โ€

โ€œHah. Youโ€™re the Quirk Group heiress, and Iโ€™m nothing more than a poor person in your familyโ€™s eyes,โ€ Dominic sneered.

Rosalie grew anxious, fearing his misunderstanding. โ€œMy family doesnโ€™t care about that. All that matters is that I love you.โ€

โ€œIs that so? But it doesnโ€™t matter if they donโ€™t agree. Weโ€™re in love. Iโ€™ve chosen you, and no one can tear us apart,โ€ Dominic declared assertively.

Rosalie, shy, responded with a soft hum.

Later that evening, the entire family gathered for dinner for the first time. Rosalie was happy to meet her nephew, Callahan, giving him gifts and snacks, delighted to no longer be the youngest.

After Evian put Callahan to bed, everyone gathered in the living room. The conversation naturally turned to Rosalieโ€™s relationship. David and Alexander, having gathered information, understood the situation. Dominic had made a terrible first impression on Christopher, who complained about Dominicโ€™s public displays of affection, deeming them disrespectful. However, they decided not to dwell on this; such behavior was common among young couples.

David asked curiously, โ€œYou mentioned your professor hired him temporarily. Doesnโ€™t he have a regular job?โ€

Rosalie said, โ€œHeโ€™s planning to start his own art gallery. Heโ€™s self-studying and waiting for Madeline and me to graduate so he can host exhibitions for us.โ€

Everyone was taken aback, except Isabella. Selena asked, puzzled, โ€œDidnโ€™t you always say art is priceless? That your paintings are not for sale?โ€

Rosalie chuckled. โ€œHaha, I was young and naive. The more money my art fetches, the more it means people appreciate it! Plus, Dom said the money can be donated to charity.โ€

The family fell silent. They understood her logic, but something felt amiss. Isabella thought, So heโ€™s unemployed? Can he even support himself?

Rosalie immediately turned to Isabella, disbelieving. Itโ€™s true! I can hear her thoughts!

The others cleared their throats, reminding Rosalie to keep it a secret. However, Isabellaโ€™s thoughts revealed something crucial.

Christopher immediately questioned, โ€œWhat does he live on? Is he mooching off his parents, or you?โ€

Rosalie was agitated. โ€œChris, why must you put it that way? Weโ€™ve just started dating. How could I ask him about his finances? Thatโ€™s bizarre. He rents a place and occasionally takes part-time work at the university. Heโ€™s busy learning about the art industry.โ€

David asked, โ€œDoes his original field of study relate to his plans?โ€

Rosalie hesitated, shaking her head timidly. โ€œHeโ€ฆ didnโ€™t attend universityโ€ฆ He went to vocational school.โ€

Isabella thought, He never attended university or high school. Heโ€™s been out of school for years.

The Quirksโ€™ expressions changed (except Alexanderโ€™s). They had never interfered, but the difference between Dominic and Rosalie was vast.

Rosalie, sensing their judgment, anxiously said, โ€œEducation doesnโ€™t define character. His familyโ€™s financial situation was limited; they had to support Maddieโ€™s art studies. You arenโ€™t going to look down on him and oppose my relationship, are you?โ€

The Quirks were stumped. Alexander asked, โ€œWhy would you think that?โ€

Rosalie froze. The others were also confused. Alexanderโ€™s expression remained indifferent. โ€œThe Rosie I know wouldnโ€™t think that way. Who misled you?โ€

Rosalie panicked. โ€œNoโ€ฆ No one. Isnโ€™t this common logic?โ€

Isabella thought, Silly girl. Itโ€™s your boyfriend.

Rosalie became flustered. Isabella observed, Sheโ€™s not adept at lying.

Before Rosalie could calm down, Alexander said bluntly, โ€œYou two arenโ€™t right for eachโ€ฆโ€
