Chapter 45: Who Does He Think He Is?

Rosalie's tears broke Selena's heart. Selena shot a sharp glance toward the doorway. Hearing the commotion, David was about to enter. Seeing his daughter in tears, his hands trembled. "What's going on? Alex would never insult anyone. Could there be a misunderstanding?"

Tears streamed down her face. Rosalie sobbed, "Alex wants Dom to be the company's driver."

For a moment, David didn't understand. "So what's the problem?"

Selena, however, grasped the issue. "Is it possible Dominic looks down on this job?"

Choking back tears, Rosalie said, "Dad, you asked him to join the company, so Dom prepared seriously, only to be made a driver. He was incredibly disappointed and angry. He confronted me, asking if I was looking down on him. He accused me of manipulating him and insulting him. He thought I was trying to break up with him. He said I'd succeeded and told me not to contact him again. Then… then he blocked me everywhere. I tried reaching out to Maddie, but she's angry, saying her brother has never been this upset. He thinks he's not good enough for me and wants to pretend we never dated."

She cried, "Why? Why are you all deceiving me? I thought you really wanted to get to know him. Were you purposely trying to ruin my love life? Is what Dom said true? You all just don't trust me, do you? You just want to control my life!"

Due to it being her first breakup, she was distraught and her words were jumbled. She simply wanted to vent her anger.

David and Selena were utterly taken aback. Rosalie had always been well-behaved and sensible, a true joy to raise. This was the first time they'd seen her lose her temper like this. They were at a complete loss, only able to try and pacify her.

They swore they had no such intentions, and neither did her siblings. It had to be a misunderstanding. Watching Rosalie cry, Isabella felt awkward. Rosalie had thanked her that morning, sharing desserts, and looking forward to the future.

How did it come to this? This breakup was shocking and unexpected. Isabella wouldn't have believed it if she hadn't seen it on the Gossip System.

Dominic was furious with Rosalie, nearly shouting at her, as if truly humiliated.

Isabella reconsidered the situation from Alexander's perspective, becoming increasingly speechless. I almost made a mistake, misled by Dominic's anger. What's wrong with him?

No sooner had she thought this than Rosalie, amidst her tears, jumped up in shock. Being dumped was hard enough; having someone badmouth Dominic was too much. Even the meekest girl would react.

David and Selena, drawing on their experience, immediately restrained Rosalie. They knew Isabella must have discovered something. Perhaps they didn't even need Alexander's explanation to understand the truth.

Isabella thought, Dominic went to the interview in high spirits, and Alexander informed HR. However, HR could never have imagined the CEO's recommendation was incompetent. Lack of formal education could be overlooked, but never having a proper job is startling. Does this mean he's been freeloading all these years?

David and Selena were stunned, looking at Rosalie in disbelief.

David realized why he'd felt something was off. He'd assumed Dominic had limited potential. Therefore, hearing 'driver,' he found nothing amiss.

"Rosie, be honest, does he have no work experience? Otherwise, HR wouldn't have made him a driver."

Selena's head was buzzing. "Is that true, Rosie?"

They'd assumed Dominic was jobless due to starting a business. They never imagined he'd never held a proper job since graduating.

This makes him nothing but a hooligan! Isabella thought. It seems Mom and Dad have noticed, saving me the trouble.

Rosalie was taken aback, then hurriedly said, "That's because he's talented but hasn't gotten recognition. Dominic is capable, but due to his lack of formal education, he couldn't find a good job and was discriminated against. Until now, he hasn't met someone who appreciates him, and he's had bad luck, so that's why…"

As Rosalie faced her parents' increasingly troubled gazes, her words grew unconvincing.

Isabella thought, Unappreciated talent? What a joke! Does he even have any? He doesn't have a single specialized skill. If not for his driver's license, HR could only have made him a cleaner. He doesn't meet the physical requirements for a security guard.

Hearing her beloved belittled, Rosalie was filled with anger and sorrow. She turned to Isabella. "Bella…"

Isabella assumed Rosalie was calling for help. You want me to speak up for him? Honestly, I can't, Rosie. He was offered the driver's position because the CEO ordered HR to relax requirements. We're talking about Quirk Group, where a driver earns tens of thousands a month, with top-notch benefits. People are practically begging for the job, and yet, he feels insulted. Even more amusing, he had the audacity to drop Alexander's name to HR, questioning if they knew who he was. Who does he think he is? The scion of some wealthy family?

Isabella continued in her mind, He even claims Alexander was prepared to offer him a manager role. Good heavens, is he out of his mind? He didn't reflect on his qualifications. Is he shameless? Even a scion has limits. If Quirk Group practiced nepotism, it would have gone bankrupt long ago. How else could it have developed into what it is now? Suddenly, I sympathize with Alexander. To help his sister, he made a fool of himself at the office. This will likely damage his reputation. Pulling strings… It's such a pity.

Isabella remained outwardly calm. She was about to gloss over her words to Rosalie, whose judgment was clouded by love, when she heard Rosalie sob and break down completely.

"He… He just wants to build a career to prove to you all that he is worthy of me. You shouldn't think of him like that. He's not… not like that…" she sobbed.

This time, David and Selena stood by with grim expressions.

"Rosie, this man is unacceptable," David said candidly. "He likes to brag, is full of himself, and lacks self-awareness. His character is simply too poor."

Selena added, "Our family had good intentions, but they were misinterpreted. Alex is right, our values are different. You two aren't for each other."

Hearing her parents echo the same sentiments, Rosalie grew more anxious. She cried so hard she had difficulty breathing, her face flushed deep red.

"Nobody understands Dom. He's genuinely a good person, and anyone who really gets to know him will appreciate him. Mom, Dad, Bella, could you please persuade Alex to give Dom a different job? Give him a chance to prove himself."
