Chapter 58: I Would Have Regretted It My Entire Life

"What?" Christopher responded absentmindedly, appearing to be texting.

Isabella smirked. "If I remember correctly, today's the day Luna left. Didn't you go to the airport to see her off?"

Christopher replied without looking up. "Their flight was at six o'clock. I called you after I dropped them off."

Isabella was surprised. "You actually went to see them off?"

During this period, Christopher hadn't actively sought Luna out, except for adding a crescent moon symbol to his Twitter handle. He was fully focused on his plan and work.

However, Isabella knew he'd secretly visited Luna. He just never dared to reveal himself. He'd even secretly upgraded everyone's tickets to first class using the company's name.

Christopher rolled his eyes. "Why ask when you already know? Are you trying to rub salt in the wound?"

Watching Luna from afar, he saw her wide smile despite her cool demeanor. He knew her joy at leaving was genuine. Heartbroken, he retreated to the restroom to cry.

"Ahem! Are you done? Don't even think about skipping class!" Christopher exclaimed angrily.

Shut up! You're breaking my heart! (This should likely be italicized to show internal thought, or removed entirely.)

Oh dear, he's upset! He must have remembered something that broke his defenses! I heard he went abroad to work behind the scenes, probably because he was afraid of being seen by Luna. He knew it would make her uncomfortable if she found out that he followed her. (This should also likely be italicized or removed.)

Christopher got angrier. "F*ck! Can't you just stop talking? Give her extra classes!"

However, he shouldn't have believed his silent protection was deeply moving. If Luna discovered his persistence, she probably wouldn't be touched.

Christopher froze. He wasn't trying to move her. He was at his wit's end. His heart had followed its own path; he just wanted to steal occasional glances. Otherwise, he wouldn't know what to do.

Lost in thought, Christopher felt Luna drifting away, making it hard to breathe.

Before he knew it, Isabella had finished eating and approached him. Looking down, he saw his phone screen full of green chat boxes. Accidentally, her gaze fell upon Luna's profile picture.

There were messages wishing Luna good morning, good afternoon, and good evening. He'd asked about her meals, rest, and if everything was going smoothlyโ€”a stream of caring words and personal emotions. Does it not count as harassment if they don't meet? (Italicized or removed.)

"Not a single reply Could it be possible that she's decided to mute you?" Isabella asked incredulously.

Regaining his composure, Christopher locked his phone. "It's not her chat."

"I'm not blind! It's clearlyโ€ฆ Huh? It really isn't her chat! Whoaโ€ฆ What theโ€” He created a fake account, pretended it's Luna's, and kept sending messages to it? Is he doing this to entertain himself? Does he think he's writing a mood diary or a memo?" Isabella was speechless.

Christopher turned and walked away quickly, his expression awkward. He was emotional; even restraining himself from bothering Luna, he needed an outlet. Otherwise, he'd break down and approach her. He'd sworn never to give Luna uncomfortable memories, so he only vented to himself.

In reality, he only dared to send festive greetings in their group chat on holidays. He didn't even dare to contact her privately.

Ah, he's just another hopeless romantic. (Italicized or removed.)

Christopher froze. "That's not true! I'm fully aware of what I'm doing! I'm certainly not a hopeless romantic!"

No, wait, he's not a hopeless romantic. (Italicized or removed.)

Christopher smirked. "Ha! See? I knew it!"

Being a hopeless romantic usually implies having a significant other, but in his case, he's basically a simp. More accurately, he's the most humble and invisible of simps. (Italicized or removed.)

Christopher's eyelids twitched. "So what if I'm a simp, huh? I'm going to continue simping for her!"

Perhaps, once Luna finds someone else, all he could do is silently wish her well. Then, he'd secretly shed tears when no one's looking. One could only say it's retribution. (Italicized or removed.)

Christopher became increasingly irritated. "Believe it or not, I could start crying right now!"

Feeling exhausted, Christopher took Isabella to the agency, only to be urgently summoned by Hayden.

Isabella, feeling tired from waking early, sat down on the couch for a nap.

"Didn't you say you would cancel all my work for me?"

"Back then, I had to secure a special quota for you. Cancelling your group's participation was a dilemma. It's a massive variety show project, and only out of respect for the Quirk Group did they agree. But who would have thought the name list would leak? News of your participation has gained traction online. I suspect the Cowell family was afraid you'd implicate them, so they've been suppressing searches."

"This won't do! We need to handle this PR crisis immediately!" Christopher was anxious.

He was convinced Luna wouldn't see the message, or care if she did. He didn't need narcissistic fantasies.

Even so, he couldn't bear the thought of news linking him to Bianca getting out. What if someone saw it? It would surely disgust Luna.

"Going public will spark inquiries. It's better to be transparent than evasive. Announce your participation, but not with Bianca," Hayden advised, glancing at the sleeping Isabella.

"This is a great opportunity. We can postpone it for two months. It'll help you leave the entertainment industry and give Isabella a chance to appear. It couldn't be more beneficial."

Hayden intended to reduce the agency's staff by two-thirds. Even if they hired others, they'd consider the future prospects of their artists. Isabella still needed to make a grand appearance.

Half-asleep, Isabella shuddered. Opening her eyes, she found two people watching her.

"What? I wasn't slacking off! I was waiting for instructions!" Isabella exclaimed.

"There's a variety show I'd like you to attend with Chris," Hayden said, explaining the situation.

Isabella blinked. "What variety show?"

"My Acting Skill," Hayden replied.

Isabella summarized, "So, it's that variety show that combines acting lessons and popularity contests, and even incorporates a semi-live broadcast format to complete various tasks?"

"Exactly. Every time it aired, the popularity was off the charts. It's enough to make you an instant sensation," Hayden said.

"But I don't know how to act," Isabella replied.

"You'll learn from seniors. Even gaining a bit of knowledge is beneficial. Plus, you'll meet many seniors and establish connections."

Hayden genuinely considered Isabella's future. If she wanted to occasionally work, making some money, it would be best to leverage her attractiveness. She could be a guest actor.

"I'd probably get scolded terribly, right?" Isabella speculated.

"In the past few seasons, we've had complete novices. The audience has always been receptive to newcomers, encouraging even the slightest progress. Many have flourished, while some have chosen to be famous for bad skills or negative things. Ultimately, the choice is yours."

After considering, Isabella shook her head. "It seems like a tough task. I don't really want to do it." She turned to Christopher. "You'll have to deal with the mess you've made yourself."

Christopher anticipated Isabella's refusal. Starring in this variety show was exhausting and unsuitable for Isabella.

"I'll handle all the hard work," Christopher offered.

"It's a live broadcast! If I don't do anything, your fans will definitely hurl abuse at me!" Isabella exclaimed.

"Both our appearance fees will go to you."

"Did you forget? This variety show was something you agreed to do for Bianca, so you'll be appearing on the show without any appearance fees. I've looked over the contract!" Isabella pointed at the document Hayden had handed Christopher. Hayden chuckled awkwardly.

Helplessly, Christopher said, "Didn't you want to make money? In this industry, popularity translates to wealth."

Isabella said, "I do want to make money, but this show might lead me to earn too much too quickly. I'm not some transmigrated protagonist, so why should I exhaust myself being the focus of attention? I'd rather be a random passerby, a mere backdrop, or even a wealthy spectator. Being ordinary is just fine."

Just as Christopher was about to give up, he had an idea.

"This show is actually fraught with intense drama. Because the first few episodes were semi-live, the audience missed out on many exciting scenes and gossip."

Isabella sat up, frowning. "Is that true?"

"This time, aside from our pair, the remaining four groups are truly a show to watch."

Isabella's eyes lit up. "Oh? Is that so?"

Hayden added, "A secretly married famous actor paired with a woman with whom he formed the nation's favorite on-screen couple. A top medieval fantasy drama male idol and the current boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. An old actor who loves his wife, and the most beautiful Cleopatra, who got boycotted by the wives of men in the entertainment industry. A new rising star who, just after breaking up with her boyfriend, was forced to team up with her ex-boyfriend's mother."

Isabella's body jolted. "Sign me up!"

"If I don't get my hands on such juicy gossip, I'd regret it for the rest of my life!"
