Delilah and Josie walked out of the chapel together.
Delilah said, โDonโt stress too much about the competition. Iโve checked out your project. Sure, itโs not the flashiest thing ever, but itโs fresh, and it can actually be used in real clinical work. The school is definitely going to pick it up.โ
She patted Josieโs hand. โYouโve put up with a lot before, havenโt you? But from now on, as long as you play it straight and keep working hard on your research, I promise that you will be able to show whatever you have got. Double majoring in your senior year is definitely a challenge. If you still want to pursue cytology further, I can refer you to Edwin. He might not be as famous as David, but his teaching skills are just as solid. If youโre worried about job prospects because of his reputation, you donโt need to stress about that. As long as you graduate with excellent grades, Iโll personally make sure you get a job!โ
Delilahโs sincerity was obvious. Every word was for Josieโs sake, with no hidden agenda at all. Josie was genuinely touched by her thoughtfulness. Josie felt warm inside and couldnโt help but cling to Delilahโs arm.
โNo, I donโt want to leave you, Professor Wilcourt. I just want to stay with you. Double majoring might be hard, but itโs not impossible,โ Josie said earnestly. She said, โPlease trust me. I promise I wonโt embarrass you. Iโll graduate on time. Just donโt make me leave, okay?โ
โYou silly girl!โ Delilah said with a helpless smile, โIโm not trying to send you away. I just donโt want you to work yourself so hard. I know youโre probably used to itโฆโ Thinking about all those crazy piles of experimental data Josie had to deal with, Delilahโs face twisted in anger.
Delilah said, โIโm nothing like David. He just kept pushing you without a shred of decency, and then acted like none of your effort even mattered. He totally had it coming, losing a student like you.โ As she spoke, Delilah reached out and gave Josie a light pat on the head. Delilah added, โJust think about what I said, okay? Whatever you choose, Iโve got your back. Iโll make sure you graduate, no matter what.โ
Josie hugged her even tighter, her eyes red as she shook her head. โI donโt need to think about it. When I went to the hospital to find you, Iโd already made up my mind. I want to study acupuncture. Please, trust me, Professor Wilcourt. I can manage my time between the two majors, and Iโll make sure I do well in both.โ
โAlright!โ Delilah sighed. She really didnโt want Josie to wear herself out, but she just couldnโt bear to let such a devoted student go. Since Josie was so set on this, Delilah had no reason to keep pushing her.
Delilah said, โSean and Claire are both about to finish grad school, and theyโve already passed all their exams. They donโt have much left to do, so if you need anything done, just boss them around. Donโt be polite. If you ever have questions about your major, just ask me anytime. Once you finish the materials I gave you, come to me for more. If youโve got some free time, swing by my place. Iโll give you some one-on-one lessons. Anyway, since you chose this niche major, I wonโt let anyone look down on you, especially not David. He thinks you canโt make it, but Iโll make sure you succeed. Josie, all the unfairness youโve faced before wonโt happen here. I only have one selfish wish.โ
Delilah paused for a moment. She looked at Josie seriously. โI hope one day youโll bring acupuncture to new heights!โ
Delilahโs words made Josie think back to her previous life. After the Reedshaw familyโs company was taken over by the Brown family, their medical heritage gradually faded from public view. A few years later, Delilahโs classes were cut. Even though acupuncture kept developing, the Reedshaw familyโs acupuncture techniques were barely ever mentioned anymore.
