Tina’s face was beaming with joy, but she was a little confused.
She asked, “Why do we still need to wait? With the information I gave you, can’t we immediately bring down the Monroe Group?”
“You don’t get it!” Eden didn’t offer much explanation.
He only said, “Business is rarely straightforward. I cannot release that information unless it’s a crucial moment. Just trust me. You’ve helped me a great deal, and I will not let you down!”
Maxwell came to visit Jaden in the police station.
He said, “You’re truly a disappointment, letting a woman manipulate you and even humiliating yourself in the news. How could I have raised such a good-for-nothing!”
Maxwell pointed at Jaden and scolded him angrily.
Jaden felt wronged. “How was I supposed to know she was so good at acting and had been deceiving me all along? She was so well-behaved before, always obedient to me, and…”
Recalling everything he had shared with Tina, Jaden simply couldn’t believe he had been betrayed.
Maxwell said, “You are so useless. Don’t you have any self-awareness? What girl would want to be with a playboy like you? If you didn’t have money, would she be with you?”
Jaden secretly rolled his eyes and thought, ‘Aren’t you also a playboy? You are always around women. What right do you have to criticize me?’
Maxwell said, “I told you long ago not to actually fall in love with girls who are after your money. It’s a purely transactional deal, yet you insist on others genuinely loving you. Where do you get such nerve?”
Maxwell looked exasperated. “If you truly want to find someone who loves you, don’t look for someone who only cares about what’s in your pockets. That girl from your former team was quite good. What is her name again?”
“Josie Pearson!” Jaden’s expression darkened as he thought about how he used to like her.
Maxwell slammed the table.
He said, “Yes, that girl. She’s clearly a simple girl. If you just put in a little effort with her, she’ll be devoted to you and won’t be after what’s in your pockets. She must have some real skills since she joined David’s team. If you marry her, she might even help you with your career. Then you can let her manage the family business, and you can play around as much as you want. I don’t know what you were thinking. Why did you let her go and fall in love with this worthless woman? You’re such a fool!”
Maxwell looked disgusted.
“I did pursue her!” Jaden said gloomily, “I didn’t succeed. She doesn’t like me. She rejected me!”
“How did you pursue her?” Maxwell asked in surprise, “Doesn’t she know your family background? Or were you not good to her?”
Jaden thought about his past approach to pursuing her and was filled with regret. “I didn’t think too deeply about it. How was I supposed to know she wouldn’t like me?”
He thought, ‘So many girls have liked me, so why did Josie not like me?’
Jaden still hadn’t figured out the reason.
After Jaden finished talking about his pursuit of Josie and all the things he had done to her, Maxwell fell silent.
He silently clenched his fists, his teeth grinding. He thought, ‘Is this bastard really my son? I wasn’t such a jerk even when I was at his age!’
Maxwell stood up. “I don’t think you should post bail. Stay here and reflect carefully on what you did wrong.”
He turned and walked out, saying, “Once you’re out, don’t even think about working at our company. Just focus on your research. Don’t come back if you don’t achieve anything, and don’t even claim to be my son. I can’t afford to be associated with you!”
Jaden was completely abandoned by his father, left with nowhere to turn. Since Eden refused to reconcile, he had to be detained.
