Chapter 68
“Let me clean up your laptop first, then we’ll see!”
Josie looked at him gratefully. “Thanks, Colby. Not only are you a top student in your field, but you’re also a computer whiz. No wonder you and Sean get along so well!”
“Oh, come on!” Colby chuckled. “Are you praising me or Sean here? That compliment sounds so fake!”
“I mean it! Dinner’s on me tonight. Order whatever you want,” Josie said, her lips curving into a rare smile.
Sean caught sight of that rare smile and, for some reason, just wanted to cover Colby’s eyes. Even though he knew Colby already had a crush, he still didn’t want anyone else seeing Josie smile like that. On top of that, seeing her smile made his hands itch. He just wanted to reach out and ruffle her hair.
Josie was completely clueless. She was still asking Colby to help clean up her laptop.
“Josie!” Zoey pulled her aside while Colby was busy cleaning up the laptop. She asked, “Do you think the plagiarism happened because of this spyware? Did Natalie ever access your laptop before?”
Josie shook her head. “I used to leave my laptop in the lab a lot, so I can’t say for sure if she ever used it. But I’ve always had my suspicions about the plagiarism.”
“So that’s why you were asking around if any of us knew someone good with computers?” Zoey frowned. She asked, “What are you planning to do now?”
Josie grinned. “Remember how I said I wanted to mess with Natalie a bit?”
“Of course I remember.” Zoey’s eyes sparkled. She added, “Allison’s still holding a grudge. If she finds out you’ve got a way to get under Natalie’s skin, she’ll be over the moon.”
Josie crooked her finger, motioning Zoey closer and lowering her voice. “The only thing is, we’re still missing some evidence. So, I’ll need to ask Colby for help again.”
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Zoey suddenly looked flustered. “Wait, you’re not about to ask me to go talk to him for you, are you?”
Josie hugged her. “Come on, Zoey, you know how it is. I’ve barely said two words to Colby all week. But you’re different. You two seem pretty tight!”
To be honest, Josie had her motives, too. She’d noticed how Colby acted around Zoey lately. He was obviously into her. She might not know Colby that well yet, but from what she remembered from her previous life, he’d always had a stellar reputation at school. After graduation, he didn’t go into medicine and they’d barely crossed paths. However, she kept spotting his name in business magazines. She also knew that he owned a bunch of charities. Besides, he was Sean’s friend. Either way, he was definitely more trustworthy than Aiden. If Zoey could shift her focus away from Aiden because of this, it would be a win for everyone.
Zoey’s cheeks flushed. “We’re not that close, but if you beg me, maybe I’ll agree!”
“Please, Zoey!” Josie didn’t hesitate for a second.
Zoey jumped, startled. “Hold up! You’re usually so cool and distant. How come you’re suddenly acting all cutesy…” She couldn’t help but rub her arms.
When Josie softened her voice and acted all cutesy with that sweet, innocent face, Zoey felt that Josie was like the little girl from next door. It made her just want to pinch Josie’s cheeks and spoil her rotten. She thought, ‘God, this is just too much!'”
Josie blinked at her. “So, are you going to say yes or not?”
“Alright, what do you want me to do?” Zoey tapped Josie’s forehead with a smile, teasing her lightly.
Josie pulled out her phone. “Remember those forum accounts we took screenshots of last time? I was thinking we could…”
While the two of them were chatting, Colby had already found something on his end.
