“You’re treating us because Exan helped you, but he’s Rhett’s friend; he was the one who asked him to help in the first place.”
“Your laptop issue was a potential risk to our team’s work. Not only did he help you by fixing your laptop, but he also helped all of us. It only made sense for Rhett to cover the bill.”
“Besides, you’re the younger one among us. It’s nice of you to treat us occasionally, but you can’t be the one who pays every time. What will people think of me and Rhett if the words get out? They’ll think we’re bullying our junior,” Suzie explained.
Luna felt a sense of warmth in her heart, and her eyes shone slightly with the threat of tears. None of her seniors had shown her this kind of consideration in her past life. Even Kevin and Wyatt, whose privileged backgrounds were enough to spark envy, had never once taken the initiative to stop her from picking up the bill. They would always let her pay the bill as long as she offered. She would never tell a soul about it anyway. Therefore, it wouldn’t affect their image. Who would’ve believed her even if she had? After all, both Kevin and Wyatt were big spenders. How would they care about the cost of a meal or two? It would only make Luna look petty if she did.
People were indeed different from one another!
“No!” Luna wrapped her arms around Suzie’s. “You’ve never bullied me. Instead, you’ve all been looking out for me since I joined the team. I treat you because I want to. I just want to treat all of you to a meal. I’ll treat you to even better food when I make more money. Lots of it!”
Her words made Suzie burst out laughing. “You adorable little dummy. How are you this sweet? But I’m holding you to that!”
She turned and called out to Rhett behind her, “Rhett, did you hear what Luna just said?”
“I heard loud and clear!” Rhett’s eyes curved into a smile. “I’ll be sure to eat plenty; it’s your treat, Luna!”
It was a perfectly normal sentence, but why did it sound a little off? However, the group had walked through the school gates before Luna could dwell on it.
Jade waved to Evan before joining Luna to return to their dorm together.
“See you guys tomorrow!” Luna also waved at Rhett and Suzie.
Erin and Suzie wouldn’t be returning to the dorm, as Erin had her faculty apartment on campus, and Suzie lived there with her.
Jade brought up the favor she had asked from Evan with Luna while they were on their way back. “He’ll probably have the results for you by tomorrow. I’ll have someone make a post sought to build some buzz. No outsiders will be involved.”
“I’ll talk to a few close friends from our class group. I’m sure the post will gain attention quickly.”
Lana looked down and tapped on her phone before Jade’s phone pinged with a message.
“Why are you suddenly sending me money?” Jade looked puzzled.
“Since it involves Professor Hanley’s top student.”
Luna smiled. “Send it to your friends in the group chat. We can’t have them working for nothing. It’s not much and just a token of appreciation.”
“You really do think of everything.” Jade didn’t refuse. She tapped on her phone and sent the money to her friends before sharing the post content they had discussed.
Talia leaped down from the top bunk when they arrived at the dorm. “Quick! Look at the latest post on the campus forum!”
“I knew people would see through it eventually. They were bound to notice something was off. With this much attention, Luna’s name will be cleared soon. I just wonder what Mia will think when she sees the post.”
Luna and Jade exchanged a glance with smiles flickering in their eyes. All started by the admirers of…
“You guys…” Talia finally caught on. “It claimed that the posts about Mia’s plagiarism and Lima’s inappropriate behaviors were all Professor Hanley’s favorite students. Don’t tell me you two were behind this?”
