Chapter 107

Walter gritted his teeth and spat out those final words aggressively. Austin’s brows furrowed slightly as his gaze flickered toward Sor. Before he could speak, Walter growled, “Don’t you think it makes any sense to fire Sonia, merely because this woman showed up to see you without an appointment!”

The moment Seeda entered the room, she noticed Suzanne pressed close to Austin, and her eyes flashed with jealousy. How dare this woman sit so close to Austin? What right did she have? That seat belonged to her—Sonia, and her alone!

Austin’s gaze turned icy as it landed on Walter. He said, “Since you barged in despite knowing my usual way of doing things, did you ever consider the consequences?”

The air around him felt stifling and heavy, as if the temperature had dropped. Walter and Austin had always been at odds, and Walter often used his shares in the company as leverage to do whatever he pleased. Yet, no one had expected him to cause a scene right in Austin’s office today.

Walter’s chest tightened with anger for a moment, but he couldn’t let this matter slide. Austin had shown him no respect for a long time now. While Walter could turn a blind eye to it in the past, Sonia had just been fired. If word got out, how would he maintain his standing among the other shareholders? Austin’s actions were nothing short of a slap in the face.

Walter strode further into the office and sat down in one of the chairs by the side. He fixed a cold stare on Suzanne, but his words were directed at Austin. “Mr. Hall, I’m not here to make things difficult for you today.” He pointed at Sonia and continued, “My daughter is just a receptionist, and now she’s been fired for unclear reasons. Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?” It was that today’s events hadn’t been handled to his satisfaction. Walter would not let things slide.

Suzanne was briefly taken aback as she looked at Walter. Although she wasn’t familiar with the inner workings of Austin’s company, she could hear the hostility in Walter’s tone. But before anyone else could speak, Sonia had already stepped forward. She shot a vicious glare at Suzanne, pointing at her as she said angrily, “Mr. Hall, it was this woman who forced her way in without an appointment! I told her it wasn’t allowed, but she refused to listen and even had Mr. Burton fire me!”

With Walter here to back her up, Sonia grew even bolder and placed all the blame on Suzanne. She refused to believe that, even now, Austin would still defend this woman.

Suzanne glanced at Sonia and let out a cold laugh. “The reason Mr. Burton fired you was not because I didn’t have an appointment. It was because, as the receptionist, you assumed, purely based on your own imagination, that I was here to pursue Austin.” “If this had been an important client instead of me, wouldn’t that have damaged Hall Corporation’s reputation?”

Austin’s gaze returned, deathly cold in an instant. He shot a sharp glare and remarked, “How bold of you.”

Sonia suddenly panicked and pointed at Suzanne again, snarling, “I didn’t do that! You’re making things up!”

The corners of Suzanne’s lips twitched. This pair of father and daughter were acting more entitled than the other. She scoffed, “Just check the surveillance footage and you’ll know if I’m making things up or not.”

Walter looked toward Sonia and saw the flicker of panic flashing in her eyes. He instantly understood what was going on. But so what? Now that he was here, he couldn’t just leave like that.

He shot Suzanne a cold glance and said, “You’ve got quite a sharp tongue. Don’t think you can do whatever you want just because Mr. Hall is here. It’s company rules to make an appointment before meeting him!” A malicious speculation roamed through Suzanne’s gaze, which turned icy. Walter and Sonia were definitely cut from the same cloth.

Austin’s expression darkened, his appetite vanishing. He set his cutlery down, and his gaze fell on Sonia. “Do I need to repeat myself? You jumped to conclusions and made baseless accusations.” His words were cold and sharp, cutting straight to the point. Before they could even respond, he said again, “Besides…
