Chapter 166
Suzanne crowned the moment she saw Emma brought to tears. She couldn't stand and watch any longer. She walked up to them and glared at Austin. “She’s past a child. Why were you so fierce toward her?” She took the socks from Austin’s hands and put them on for Emma.
Austin was slightly surprised as he stared at Suzanne. To his surprise, Emma turned her head toward him and made a silly face. It was obvious she had done that on purpose. Austin furrowed his brows.
At this moment, Yasmine and Aaron emerged from the room. Austin shot Yasmine a sharp glare. In a soft voice, he said, “Yasmine, I signed Emma up for classes with Genius Mental Arithmetics.”
Yasmine paused, a dazed look on her face. She looked at Austin and asked, “Didn’t you refuse to sign her up previously? When she brought it up to you at the time, you said children should enjoy their childhood. So, why did you take the initiative to sign Emma up for classes now?”
Yasmine looked at Aaron with confusion. However, he simply shrugged to indicate that he hadn’t been informed. Austin picked up his phone and continued working. Coldly, he said, “Children should be studying.”
Meanwhile, Emma glared at Austin with those round eyes of hers. Crossing her plump arms in front of her chest, she harrumphed and said, “Uncle Austin is mean.” She couldn’t believe he was getting back at her when she was just a child.
Suzanne, who had watched everything, couldn’t hide the amusement in her eyes. She leaned in toward Austin and whispered, “Mr. Hall, you should be mindful of your image.”
Austin lifted his eyes to look at Suzanne. Even though he didn’t say a word, he curled his lips upward slightly. Yasmine managed to get a rough idea of what was going on when she noticed Austin’s and Emma’s reactions. Watching Emma being mad, Yasmine couldn’t help but smile as she shook her head slightly.
Despite being clearly aware that Austin shouldn’t be provoked, Frama did exactly that.
Emma sat on Suzanne’s lap and continued watching TV, having Suzanne all to herself. Austin, on the other hand, chatted with Aaron and Yasmine about work. In the blink of an eye, an hour passed.
When it was announced that dinner was ready, Emma’s eyes lit up. She got out of Suzanne’s lap speedily. Trotting toward the dining room, she remarked, “Dinner time!” Halfway to the dining room, she stopped and turned around. She raised her chubby arm and waved at Suzanne, saying, “Aunt Suzanne, come join us.”
Seeing that Suzanne hadn’t caught up with her, she ran back toward Suzanne, took her by the hand, and pulled her toward the dining room. Suzanne’s heart melted. She thought that having a kid like this at home would liven up the atmosphere for sure.
Aaron grinned at Emma and teased, “Emma, why did you summon only your Aunt Suzanne for dinner? Your mom’s going to get jealous.”
Yasmine glanced at Suzanne uneasily. She shot Aaron a look and chimed in softly, “What are you talking about?” What if Suzanne were to misunderstand and think that she was a petty woman?
Suzanne, however, lifted her into a smile. Her expression was neutral, showing that she was completely unbothered by this. At this moment, Emma scampered toward Yasmine and took her by the hand. “Mommy, it’s dinner time!” Her coquettish tone could melt hearts.
Aaron watched the pair of mother and daughter with a smile on his face. After washing their hands, everyone sat in their respective seats around the dining table. The moment Emma sat down, she focused on eating. It looked like she had quite a good appetite.
Aaron turned his eyes away from Fauma and looked at Suzanne. In an earnest voice, he said, “Ms. Yates, thank you for saving Yasmine. Feel free to let me know if you need my help in the future.” Aaron was a man of his word. There were only a handful of people who would bear these words from him.
Yasmine clenched her hands into fists under the table. The expression on her face became even stiffer when she recalled the words she had said before. Suzanne smiled slightly as she shook her head. “It’s no big deal, Mr. Stanton. I’m just doing my job.”
