Chapter 54

The screech of brakes caused Suzanne to frown. Following the sound, a silver Porsche came to a stop in front of her. The car door swung open, and Shane, with his youthful face, stepped out with a smile. He flicked his bangs and threw Suzanne a flirtatious wink. “Haven’t seen you in a few days. Do you think I’ve gotten even hotter?”

Suzanne didn’t even spare him a glance. She simply turned and walked toward the entrance of the Guerra residence.

Shane wasn’t bothered by her indifference and sighed dramatically. “Some people just don’t appreciate the finer things…” But he still followed her into the house.

The spacious living room was filled with expensive porcelain, priceless paintings, and intricately carved pearwood furniture. The entire room practically shouted wealth.

When they entered, Marvin immediately greeted them with a broad smile. “You’re finally here, Dr. Smith! It’s good to see you, Mr. Doyle.”

Suzanne nodded slightly. “Nice to see you, Mr. Guerra.”

Shane, still with a smile on his face, scanned the room. He leaned toward Marvin and whispered, “Mr. Guerra, your living room is quite something…” He had heard that Marvin had been busy making money these past years, but he thought Marvin’s success was more modest. Now, seeing the space, it was clear that Marvin had done very well for himself. Everything in the room could easily be worth over a million dollars.

Marvin smiled politely. “Oh, it’s nothing…”

Suzanne couldn’t help but sigh inwardly at Shane’s obvious fixation on wealth. She lowered her voice and reminded him, “Let’s get started.”

When the topic shifted to business, Shane dropped the playful demeanor and looked at Marvin seriously. “Have you prepared all the items I asked for?” Shane knew how particular Suzanne was about these things, so he always made sure everything was arranged ahead of time.

Marvin quickly nodded. “Yes, everything is ready.”

Still slightly uneasy, Shane said, “I’ll check for myself.”

Marvin had no objections and led Shane upstairs.

Ten minutes later, both Shane and Marvin came back downstairs. Shane nodded toward Suzanne, signaling that everything was in order. She began to head upstairs.

At the door to Rodney Guerra’s room, Suzanne paused and turned to the group of people following her. She gave them a firm order, “Wait outside.”

Marvin instinctively glanced at Shane, but Shane had already taken a step back. Marvin was somewhat conflicted as he turned to Suzanne. “What…”

Suzanne asked in confusion, “Is there a problem?”

Marvin knew that this was something he couldn’t avoid. But if anything went wrong, how could he possibly make up for it? He sighed and helplessly said, “My son has some issues with his temperament. I’m worried he might do something to hurt you.”

Suzanne raised an eyebrow at Marvin’s concern. She turned to look at Shane, and the two exchanged a silent understanding. Could anyone in that room pose a bigger threat than Alan had?

Suzanne smiled and replied, “It’s fine.”

But Marvin’s warning left Shane uneasy. He stepped forward and suggested, “Let me go with you.”

Better safe than sorry.

Suzanne didn’t reject the offer, and the two of them entered the room together.
