Chapter 1057
Salvadorโs eyes were filled with guilt. โIt is my fault, Mother.โ
โI could remind you of your bond with the Sinclair family, speak of the past, and ask you to forget your position as king and treat Ryan as an elder would,โ Victoria continued, โbut I will not. If you need reminding of a relationship to remember it, then that bond was never genuine. Therefore, I will be direct: You must treat him well. No one is allowed to bully him.โ
Her words stirred many memories. He recalled having close friends. His alliance with the Sinclair family had been sincere, formed without ulterior motives. However, when Hector and his sons died for the kingdom, shortly after Salvador's ascension, his mind was consumed with securing his position and building achievements. He prioritized reclaiming the Southern Frontier; his initial reaction to the Sinclairsโ deaths wasn't mourning, but worry. He sent his younger brother, anxiously awaiting news of success. In his anticipation, he inadvertently pushed aside his grief. By the time victory arrived, all he felt was happiness.
Now, Victoriaโs words brought it all back. He lingered in those memories, guilt and sorrow creeping into his heart. He stood, eyes brimming with tears, bowing deeply. His voice thick with emotion, he said, โI swear this will never happen again, Mother. As long as I live, no one will dare harm Ryan Sinclair.โ
Victoria smiled. โI believe you, my son. Your word is as good as law.โ
Later, Salvador personally arranged for Ryanโs departure from the palace, providing him with two carts of gifts. Once Ryan had left, Salvador went to Everspring Palace.
Inside, Kylie knelt, worry etched on her face. She had been deeply frightened when Barrett took Connor to the royal chapel. Though angry at Rafaelโs discipline of Connor, sheโd dared not show emotion in the queen dowagerโs presence. After returning Connor to Everspring Palace, she couldnโt bring herself to scold him, instead comforting him until he was settled.
Kylie knew she spoiled her son, but couldnโt help it. Connorโs birth had given her confidence; his future as crown prince was assured. Her deep affection made her indulgent and lenient.
Salvador entered silently, sitting without speaking. He already knew Kylie had comforted, not punished, Connor.
Kylie turned, her eyes flicking up nervously. Knowing she must defend her son, she said, โYour Majesty, it is my failure as a mother. I am at faultโฆ Iโve already punished him.โ
Salvadorโs tone was calm. โHow?โ
โIโฆ I struck his palms,โ she whispered.
He raised an eyebrow. โHow many times?โ
Kylie hesitated, averting her gaze. โTwenty times.โ
A servant brought coffee. Salvador sipped it thoughtfully, yet kept Kylie kneeling. He simply asked, โDid he understand his mistake?โ
Relieved, Kylie responded quickly, โHe knows he was wrong. He said he will apologize to Ryan properly next time.โ
Salvador nodded slightly. โThe punishment worked, then.โ
โYes, of course,โ Kylie breathed, relieved. โHe wonโt dare make the same mistake again.โ
Salvador set down his cup, fixing his gaze on her. โSince you say you struck his palms twenty times, bring him to me after his kneeling at the royal chapel. I will personally ensure itโs done.โ
Kylieโs face paled. โYour Majesty, Iโve already punished him.โ
Salvadorโs voice remained steady, but edged. โThink carefully. If you didnโt strike him, and you claim you did, perhaps itโs best to send him to the queen dowager. So, did you punish him or not?โ
Kylieโs voice trembled. โYour Majesty, twenty strikes could ruin his hands. Heโs so young. Surely, if he spoke out of turn, it can be forgivenโฆ Itโs not unforgivable.โ
