Chapter 1342
Because Salvador assigned Galen to other matters, Astral Prison's management fell to Supreme Court officials, with Randall overseeing. Later that evening, Randall visited Carissa at Hell Monarch Estate, troubled and seeking her advice. Carissa, preoccupied with worry about Zoey and her children, barely touched her meal before hurrying to meet him.
However, Randall's concern involved Evelyn and Viola. Since their arrival at Astral Prison, the two women had been consumed by worry. Their meager meals, barely fit for animals, left them weak. Within days, both suffered severe vomiting and diarrhea. Carissa had already given Zoey medicine to alleviate stomach upset, which helped Evelyn and Viola initially. But the continued poor food worsened their condition; Viola now had a high fever. Evelyn had pleaded for a physician, but Randall, indecisive, sought Carissa's counsel.
โWhat about the others? Are they experiencing similar symptoms?โ she asked.
โSome did initially. Adjusting to prison food from a life of luxury is difficult. But most improved after taking medicine. Only these two are deteriorating,โ Randall explained. He glanced at Carissa. โMs. Prince seems near death, while Madam Prince cries daily, nearly blinding herself with grief. Perhaps we should find a physician for them?โ
Carissa considered this. โHave you spoken to Deputy Commander Kimber? He formerly managed Astral Prison and has the authority to decide.โ
โI have,โ Randall admitted. โDeputy Commander Kimber refused, citing Ms. Princeโs abandonment of Mr. Warren after his downfall, deeming her unworthy of medical attention.โ
Carissa was surprised, unaware of Galen and Barrett's close relationship. โThen, why not consult Mr. Carter?โ she suggested.
Randall's gaze dropped, fingers clenched. โHe expects much of me. I hesitate to bother him with every minor issueโhe'd be disappointed. But I'm at a loss. After Deputy Commander Kimber's refusal, I fear acting independently and incurring his displeasure.โ
Carissa studied him thoughtfully. He lacked decisiveness, yet possessed a compassionate heart. He could have easily avoided the issue after Galen's refusal.
Carissa sighed. โI can't decide for you, but I offer this: His Majesty ordered their imprisonment, hoping Mr. Prince might surrender, swayed by family ties. But as their custodian, you must ensure their survival.โ
Relief washed over Randall; a faint smile touched his lips. โUnderstood. Iโll arrange a physician.โ
He started to leave, then paused. โWhat should I say if Deputy Commander Kimber inquires? He disapproved of calling a physician.โ
Carissa sighed. โYou'll have to manage that yourself.โ
Seeing the disappointment in her eyes, Randall refrained from further questioning. He murmured a farewell and departed.
Chapter 1342
Once he left, Carissa instructed Lulu to take Rowan to Astral Prison to check on Zoey, Cedric, and the others, who had also exhibited symptoms. Later, Rowan and Lulu returned, carrying the unmistakable prison odor. Lily sprinkled scented water on them, cleansing them of the stench and any associated ill fortune.
Carissa instructed Lulu to bathe and change, while Rowan was offered coffee and snacks. He placed his medical kit on the table. โA physician visited and prescribed medication. However, given Astral Prison's limitations, I left them some pills.โ
โAnd how are they?โ Carissa asked.
โMs. Prince and Madam Prince are gravely ill. The others are managing, though Ms. Courtney has a slight fever.โ
โHow did this happen? Is it the food?โ Carissa asked.
Rowan sighed. โThe conditions are appalling. Everyone eats, sleeps, and relieves themselves in the same area. The environment is poor; these are people accustomed to luxury. Their bodies are struggling to adapt.โ
โThe men are faring better due to their strength, but Mrs. Prince suffers headaches, likely from poor sleep. I gave her acupuncture and ointment. Ms. Prince had no significant issues initially, but excessive medication has weakened her, worsening her condition. Madam Prince's constant worry and daily weeping are nearly blinding her.โ
Rowan paused, sipping his drink. โMrs. Prince has it worst. She manages everything in Astral Prison, battling headaches while comforting others. She can't ignore themโthere are so many, and negative emotions spread easily. Separation would ease her burden.โ
Carissa's heart ached for Zoey, but knew separating the prisoners was unlikely.
